Targeting terrorists with a D-Pad
Has anyone played MacGuffin's Curse? How is the iOS version compared to the PC version? Also, I have to ask this with every iOS game, does this run in a playable manner on a 3GS?

Can't really answer your questions, but the game is a ton of fun on iOS, even though I'm running it on iPhone 4.

I'm really tempted to buy one, I sold the iPhone 3GS I was using as an MP3 player to fund my iPad thinking I'd get bluetooth headphones and use the iPad for music, but I really miss having an MP3 player in my pocket. New Touch looks really awesome, but I really wish they hadn't pulled the $300 starting price. The plan now is to hope for a ~$150 sale on an old 8GB model, but I'm really conflicted between making due with a years old device or paying double the price for the new hotness.

I had an ipod touch 4 before I had an iphone and personally I strongly advise against the ipod touch 4. It was chuggy as fuck and the lack of ram showed, often. If the new one is on par with the other modern devices it should be a night and day kind of experience.

stuck my tongue deep inside Atlus' cookies
your reviews always mention 'We', but does the 'mobile team' even have more folks than you? :p

(I know it's common syntax for sites but am just curious)

Btw: how is traffic for the mobile stuff compared to rest of ign if you are allowed to disclose?

I try not to use the royal we. If you see me do it in a review it's probably something that snuck past the editing process. I take it out of freelance reviews when I catch it. A review is my opinion and mine alone :)

IGN's bread and butter is console/pc coverage, and more specifically the core market. So anything that orbits around that traditional space, like the mobile games channel, or the tech/gear channel, is a good bit smaller. I honestly don't look at channel to channel stats, but my mobile channel is probably about as popular as the 3DS & Vita channels are individually. Probably less, but in that ballpark and growing.

So wait a sec... I thought system level general threads were officially no longer allowed? Is this one still safe for some reason?

Gaf hates iOS, every game-specific thread would just get flamed to death with "lololo iOS games aren't real games lolololol"

so... yes.

Hmm... Well, GAF generally hates Vita too, and that general thread got locked. Vita and iOS happen to be my main gaming interests. :-( I'm glad this thread is still alive, but also surprised.

Vita is dead though... -stabstabstab-

In all seriousness, there's several reasons for an iOS thread:

a) there's no "big" releases that often. Vita gets big franchises, iOS doesn't really, instead

b) iOS gets A LOT of small, indie-releases to sift through. It's impossible and not a good idea to make threads for each unknown game, because mostly it takes this thread a week or more to catch on to games and find out which of the dozen new releases are worthwhile. We're like, our own little review-agency here. It's better to brainstorm togethere than have 100 threads with 3 posts in it.

The specs of the 5th gen iPod touch is a solid buy just for games yes? Looks like it's a 4S with a 4 inch screen, which sounds like it might be ok for the next year or two. I'd imagine devs will still be targeting the 4S for a bit. I was kinda surprised when I read that the 4th gen is similar to a 3GS with a retina screen. That seems pretty terrible.

I wish the 5th gen came in 16GB with a slightly cheaper price tag. =P

I have a 5g Touch, and yes it's great. The screen is really amazing, and it should be plenty powerful enough for the next 2 years of iOS gaming.

Also, you do not want 16GB. Way too small with game sizes going higher and higher. I'm even wondering if my 32GB is big enough for me, but I think it'll be OK if I can stop hoarding apps on it that never actually play.)

Does it have similar music selection ui as the main music player? As in can you shuffle and select by artists the songs it plays or do you have to back out after playing each song / album.

One game is always one song, so you have to choose a specific song for each game.

You guys should check out Synesthetic, you play your music and the notes are obstacles you have to avoid.

Not sure if it's been updated since, but I tried this when it came out and thought the note-generation was absolutely rubbish. I didn't feel in tune with the music at one single moment, which made it a bit pointless really.

Hi GDJustin, thank for your work (I like the channel, I wish it had more content tough but I understand resources are limited).

Can I ask you something (I promise, last time)?
Can the mighty IGN brand have some news from Ubisoft about some announced-then-gone-missing games?
Specifically: Clash of Heroes and Ghost Recon.

Thanks!!!

We finally get episode 3 of the walking dead.

So far it's brilliant. Several scenes where my jaw hit the ground.

This and Dishonored are easily the top games of the year.

Yeah, personally I think 16 GB is fine. Seems to me that people who say it isn't generally have folder after folder of games they touched once and haven't played since. Cleaning the fridge can be annoying, especially when you have to do it unexpectedly, but outside of a few favorites like Tiny Wings, most iOS aren't something I feel the need to have on my iPad permanently, especially when re-downloading stuff is so easy.

Granted I don't have any music or movies on my iPad, if you were doing that 16 GB would be pretty cramped.

So I'd say, yes. But just in general. No idea on sound detection, but you should be able to find more update info on a site like Appshopper or any of those other price watching sites.

16GB is horrible. It's music which is the problem, 'cause my phone is my mp3 player as well so I've got 6-7GB of music which leaves me with about 6GB for games. When games are starting to be 1-2GB each you very quickly have to just resort to never playing those games and sticking to the stuff that's smaller. There are tons of games I've had to uninstall or just avoid because there's no way to make them fit. Chaos Rings was particularly annoying, because that was a fairly respectable 250MB until they added Japanese voices completely needlessly and quadrupled the size of the app to 1GB. So now I can't have that anymore.

When I upgrade, there's no way it's going to be to 16GB, because there's loads of music that I've had to leave off, even.

I meant the algorithm, rather than the app itself.

Timegeeks is great. Is it weird that I enjoy the kids mode more than the multiplayer? :lol

I had 2 matches and the othe 2 haven't used their turn yet.

Are IAPs linked to device instead of account? I'm wary of buying IAPs because they may not carry over when getting a new device.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
There's another old school CRPG in development, kinda like Spiderweb's games, that wants to have an iOS port after it's done. It's got a Kickstarter asking only for $15k total and a gameplay trailer showing it's already far in development. Though it's not the most attractive game (I don't think it's worse than Spiderweb's though, just different, if they make the camera smooth scroll at least) it looks promising by what's there and the planned features and content. I made a thread for it but nobody cared, maybe you lot do.

16GB is way more than enough for me on mobile devices, personally. I guess it mostly matters around what kind of games you play on it, because I don't play any of the larger games and I only keep a couple at a time on my device.

Otherwise I can fill it up with enough books, some albums, a couple movies/tv shows in addition, and it works fine.

Of course more is always better, the new iPod touch is crazy expensive though with how tech prices are being driven down lately.

Im sort of hooked on Puzzle Saga. I wanted to hate the game since its such a blatant copy of Clash of Heroes but its actually a little different in a good way.

I really don't like the art style. And the (lack of) movement animation is silly. Hope that's just pre-alpha stuff, though the art probably won't change.

Also, they used music from Aralon in the trailer without giving them credit. Hope they have permission to use it.

Comic Zeal is probably the best paid while ComicBookLover is great for free

Seconded

Anyone else digging the Happy Street update? I had enough Flooz built up before the update to build both of the premium Halloween buildings, and the new Mining Camp in the Cave. The new combo looks neat but I'm not really sure any of them are worth the Flooz they cost.

With the Dungeon changes, I definitely feel like it's harder to get Flooz now, since leaving your Dungeon at level 1 would let it restock ridiculously fast (faster if you put a taxi stand or bus stops near it) and supposedly people were getting tons of Flooz every day. You seem to still have unlimited time to input the sequence so you can just write it down when it starts to get longer, but it's definitely slower. I went ahead and upgraded to level 2 since I figured getting a lucky spin token beats a single flooz, although I am definitely missing the lower stock when I was level 1.

For the time being I'm going to leave my dungeon and fortune wheel at level 2, in the hopes that I get lucky and that will average out to more than the 2 flooz you get at level 3. On Lucky Spin, so far I only seem to get a 2 flooz price about half of the time, although I have won 50 and 15 flooz in the past. Anyone have any experience with this yet?

I guess I should really save up for the level 3 workshop/nyoks/studio upgrades, since that will be like 450 flooz, lol.
