Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate announced for Wii U/3DS, coming to West, no 3DS online

So are people in this thread not going to pickup the Wii U version now that they know it's $60?

I'm still going to buy it, and it's certainly going to be a game with $60 worth of content, but I can't say I'm thrilled at Capcom stooping to that and having a justification of "it's HD!" and/or "it's online!"; it just rubs me the wrong way.

It's only $48 if you preorder it from Newegg during one of their $12 off deals.

To me, the $60 for the Wii-U version makes more sense than $40 for the 3DS version. The 3DS version doesn't have online so to me it's basically just a "take it with me to gather mushrooms and run my farm type of stuff over lunch breaks version".

I'd be better off with $60 for the Wii U and $20 for the 3DS version.

I'm not getting the Wii U until at least a year after launch, so by then the game should be $30-40 max. Plus I pretty much stopped buying games day 1 a while ago. I'd rather wait 6 or so months and get it at a discount.

Will QA for food.

You should be jealous of our amazing trade-in deals in Canada. $20 launch day games because of Futureshop. All hail the king of trade ins.

Why the Wii Classic Controller?

Local multiplayer perhaps?
Otherwise it would make no sense indeed for single-player usage, unlike Tri on Wii, as GamePad is pretty much a ProConrroller with a touch screen.

Even if we assumed they're just flogging unsold CCPro stocks, I can see no reason why one should prefer it to the vastly superior GamePad - with built-in maps, inventory etc.

Because Capcom probably has a warehouse full of them and they're considerably cheaper than the Pro Controllers.
It's not that clear that the game would gain anything from a Pro Controller unless you really hate that cable that connects the classic to a wiimote.

Does the Pro have anything that the Classic Controller doesn't aside from clicky sticks and analog shoulder buttons? I haven't read anything about rumble. (I guess it would be nice to get a Pro as a bonus but it sells for $50 individually.)

It apparently does have rumble, but I do not believe it's currently known if using a Pro Controller will take advantage of the clickable sticks. The Pro Controller nor the GamePad have analog triggers, though.

Don't forget the clear superiority coming from its battery life that's not even going to last a proper online session...

Good point, the only one I can think of actually, in fact I'm afraid my MH3U sessions may take longer than 7 hours - no matter if online or offline - so I could do with CCPro all things being considered.

What rumours, can you provide a source for this?

Here on GAF we have been speculating recently about how awesome would be a limited edition including both games and some bonus stuff such an OSD CD, a book, action figures and so on, but those were just speclations on ourr part.

ah, I remember reading it around here, can't find the specific thread so perhaps it was just GAF speculation

I'd for sure go for a 3DS/Wii-U bundle though so I hope one does surface

Wait, so the 60 USD is MSRP for the game? Ugh. Will still buy...eventually. Don't really need another CCP and I doubt you could flip it for much money. Combined with the 300+ USD cost of the system, I'm probably going to wait a bit instead of dipping in day 1. I didn't get Tri until 6 months post release and the community was still strong at that time.

So this game is like Dark Souls + Shadow of the Colossus? Never played a monster hunter game.

Well, maybe it'll be like that once MH4 rolls around, but the short answer to your question presently is no. Combat is radically different between MH and a Souls game, due to the difference in what you're actually fighting. It's actually really hard to compare MH to another game since it's fairly unique.

Its a PSO clone with a medieval setting and real time combat.

Someone (which I then co-opted) once compared it to Punch-Out, which is pretty spot-on. Learn the openings between monster attacks, bide your time, then attack attack attack. Go in guns blazing and you get punished immediately.

Saying it has real time combat is a worthless descriptor in my book. How it approaches combat is the unique aspect of the gameplay, in general.

This isn't too bad a comparison, I think.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Oh wow, they are actually pricing it at $60. Dat online tax.

I guess thats also one of the reasons why MH is now on WiiU - seems like Nintendo doesnt care if Third Partys release HD versions of handheld titles at full price. Capcom probably wanted to the same with MHP 3rd for its western release and got shot down quick by Sony.

Feels good to finally have a new MH game in english. Thanks for the message, Ryosus. :')
So, so, so in love with this game. I hope they throw us westerners a bone and include some of the Japanese weapons we never got.....or maybe seeing as they've got such a great relationship with Nintendo now they could include the master sword???? It's nice to want things...

Lol Sony doesn't care about stuff like that whatsoever. They didn't let Capcom release it cause Capcom wanted it to be PSN-only while SCEA mandates a retail release for all HD ports.

PR said:
Nintendo and Capcom have today confirmed that they have entered into a new distribution agreement for the forthcoming Monster Hunter™ 3 Ultimate scheduled for release exclusively on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U across Europe in March 2013. Under the terms of the agreement Nintendo will be responsible for the sales, marketing and distribution of the games throughout European territories and Australia, with Capcom remaining as publisher.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate utilises the unique functionalities of Wii U and Nintendo 3DS to provide players with a truly intuitive hunting experience. The optional new Target Camera feature now makes it easier to focus quickly on nearby monsters with a simple press of the L Button. Quick access to in-game books, weapons, field maps and minigames is enabled by the touch screen feature on both platforms, whilst the high quality graphics of Wii U and 3D visuals of Nintendo 3DS deliver a unique and stunning world for players to explore. Taking advantage of the portability of Nintendo 3DS, players can exchange their guild card - that contains their hunter's information - with other players via StreetPass.

Players can experience the world of Monster Hunter alone or in four-player local play using Nintendo 3DS. Finding nearby hunters to adventure on quests with is now even easier via the local Nintendo 3DS search feature. Wii U players will be able to form hunting parties of up to four players online or enjoy the hunt with Nintendo 3DS players via a local wireless connection. Fans who own both a Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, as well as a copy of the game for each system, will be able to take advantage of the inter-compatibility of save data between the two consoles, taking the hunt from their living room wherever they go.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, the biggest, boldest Monster Hunter title yet, launches across Europe on Nintendo 3DS and Wii U in March 2013.
Get that money.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for Wii U has HD graphics and free online play.

Expected, but I believe this is the first time we have a confirmation.

Free online (not counting Ad-hoc Party) should be a first for Japan. I do sort of wonder retroactively if Tri would've done better in Japan had the online been free?

SCEA doesn't mandate retail releases for HD ports, because we wouldn't be getting games like Okami HD otherwise; what they mandate is that HD ports can't be sold on their own at retail and that they need to have trophy support.

I'm quite surprised they didn't try releasing it in Europe because as far as I'm aware such restrictions can't be enforced in Europe

No surprise that it's free. They stopped using that Matching Service crap last year I think.
Wait, they stopped requiring it or they just shut down the PS2/Wii games entirely?

It still would've needed SCEE to updated Ad-hoc Party. For whatever reason, Sony's western branches refused to lift a finger to support MH on PS3.

Free online play was expected but still good to hear! Love the fact that you can completely remove all HUD elements and play with a clean HD image on the tv.

Explain Okami and the RE Chronicles games then.

I believe the actual policy was that HD ports had to be bundled with 2 or more games (like both GoW HD collections or ICO/SOTC).

Oh yes, that was the policy.

Can't believe people expect a game like Monster Hunter 3G to be $20 on the 3DS. Just because it released early on Japan doesn't retract from it's value.

Can anyone who has played this give a little overview of the controls. I got Tri for the Wii but could never get past the rather backwards setup. Well I guess I could have got used to it, but every time I took a break and played something else it always hard work to get back into it.

I don't think this game is for you.

We got in touch with Capcom USA to ask if download quests will be made available for the western release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as well, and the good news is that they will.

We also asked if the Wii U version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate would support the option to play the game on the Wii U GamePad’s screen, rather than the television, and unfortunately, it will not.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will be released in the U.S. and Europe in March 2013. Both versions will support cross-play and cross-saving. The Wii U version will also allow for online multiplayer.

No OTP support is disappointing, but expected. If you want to play MH3U on a "handheld" buy the 3DS version!

And I guess I'll just throw this new MH4 video here: http://youtu.be/XETwmw9BDGo?t=41m
