They'll just charge your shit anyway. That's how they are. Watch them go through your transaction history and track down your CC number.

I AIN'T FALLING FOR YOUR TRICKS, SONY.

What happens if I have insufficient funds in my Sony Entertainment Network wallet?
If you have insufficient funds in your wallet but have Automatic Funding enabled, we will charge your nominated credit card. If you do not have Automatic Funding enabled, and have insufficient funds on the expected payment date, your pre-order will be cancelled. If you do not wish to use Automatic Funding please make sure you have sufficient funds to cover the cost of your pre-order in your Sony Entertainment Network wallet on the payment date.

from the official Playstation website:
http://uk.playstation.com/ps3/suppo...n-Store-pre-order-frequently-asked-questions/

Edit:
ok, so I'm still downloading, but I did just got a message that my PSN account has insufficient funds.

It will say €99 but when you check out it'll start downloading. I checked my transaction history and it says €0.

Yeah, and it will automatically take 99 euros from your account two days before the game launches. And when you don't have 99 bucks in your wallet your pre-order will be cancelled and the game will be deactivated.

So couple questions:

I have an EU PSN account and a US psn account. So you can download the game on the EU PSN store without providing CC info? Also is the game available for preload on the US PSN store if you preorder?

Are there people who are already playing the "free" AC3 from the PSN store?
Maybe it's just a preload that will be activated on the release date?

Like I said, I lived in the North End, which theoretically should be there when AC3 takes place, no? I didn't live in a modern building and I know that the apartment didn't exist back then. I meant more of the fact that I would like to run by the area "it should be."

I am a huge Revolutionary War history buff, as you can see from my Assassin's Creed 3: Revolutionary War History and Timeline Discussion topic, so I'm pretty well versed on the complexities of King George as an individual. And while there are many sides to discuss about his character, and he was successful with the Seven Years War, there is little scholarly debate about his complete blinding incoherence with regards to his policy toward the American colonies. He was behind the curve, dangerously narcissistic in his decisions and continually antagonized the colonies when he could have made more sweeping conciliatory gestures. And add to that all the insults swinging from a particular block in Parliament, and things just spiraled out of control where cooler, more sane heads would have prevailed otherwise. The Revolutionary War was a long time coming because there were so many attempts made to avert war, a great majority of them from the colonists themselves.

I just don't know how any historical epic would portray these sides neutrally. History is written by the victors, but it just so happens this time in history is extraordinarily well recorded from spectators on both sides and it's not impossible to get a fairly clear picture of what was going on.

I would like for Connor to have his own story, though. What I mean is, Connor is still a man of his time... how can he just ignore this huge event in favor of his own personal agenda? I don't think it's very plausible.

But who knows. I'm just curious, because I never thought the AC titles "ignored" history and just used them as lazy backdrops before. I mean, you went about your business, but you were constantly being integrated into historical events or meeting historical characters, and your actions usually impacted both history AND his agenda.

I have no doubt this will be like the previous titles, with the main character following his agenda which just "incidentally" happens to converge into the historical events around him. I would have thought Ubi approached the matter with a bit more caution, but the Evil Washington DLC seems to indicate they're pulling no brakes when it comes to interaction with historical figures just like the previous titles, with Ezio punching Rodrigo Borgia in the nuts

while I know the thread you're citing (I lurked this forum for about six years before deciding to apply for membership) and I can see you're well versed about this matter, i just don't want this game to go the Hollywood route. I'm quite fed up with Americans portraying the English with absolute ignorance and downright insulting twisted events, like Braveheart, The Patriot or similar toxic material. Of course, there's a clear victor here: America won, and King George showed some really bad politics when it came to it. This will be in the game and I have no problem with it. But let's just not portray those figures as comic book villains and reiterate this really annoying trend that's still popular nowadays after God knows how many years

Just having a good laugh at your expense. No hard feelings. :)

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.
About 3.5 hours in so far. Will compare the first 5 hours or so of AC3 to Liberation probably tomorrow. Soon it's Halloween party time!

DO NOT WATCH STREAM IF YOU WANT TO AVOID HEAVY HEAVY SPOILERS. Within the first few hours of the game there is a huuuuuuge spoiler. I highly encourage those that care to not watch it.

And in the 'Show off your pick-ups' thread people have Halo 4 too. How are you assholes getting these games early?

Xbox, actually. Day 1 patch was good though!

And agreed for guy above, do not watch stream if you want to avoid some 'wtf' spoilers in the entire early part of the game

I wish someone would get the ps3 version. I want to know if it run any good before deciding on that version or not.

Yeah. I suspect it'd be very similar to past AC games with how history intersects Connor's mission, I just was making note that I'd be disappointed if it was as he described. I appreciate a self-contained story, while I drown out the Assassins' vs. Templars stuff, ya know?

Well, I think it's a little unfair to classify it as if Americans are always shitting on the British. To just use your example, The Patriot is a comically historically inaccurate film that is more like an action movie that just happens to take place in the era... actually, it may have more in common with Assassin's Creed in this way lol. Nobody, not especially any educated American, could possibly seriously believe THE PATRIOT was accurately depicting events of the period. Most dramatic movies set in the period are just outrageous; there are shocking few decent Revolutionary War movies. It'd be like me saying watch Al Pacino's REVOLUTION (*shudder*). The "top tier" material is stuff like John Adams...and, like, maybe that one broadway musical set in the period.

Come to think of it, there are so few Revolutionary War films in general that it's kind of a low data sample to conclude that Hollywood is just trying to paint the British in some one dimensional light.

But in the end, you'd have to admit, when it comes to the Revolutionary War, there really was a "villain", so-to-speak, and a people with the righteous cause. It's just the way it was. There were shades of grey within that umbrella, but the overarching structure remains the same. And let's be honest... there is no way a game like Assassin's Creed could deal with that nuance in any reasonably quality fashion. They can't even deal with uncontroversial subjects well :p

I will say, though, this game has slavery stuff in it, and we all know that Hollywood films continually harp on the great original sin of slavery with the original founding documents, so it's not like they're viewing Americans as innocent angels. We know individuals like Thomas Jefferson were men of their time and often hugely hypocritical, failing their own ideals. And I think I see this in Hollywood media more often than I see Revolutionary War films heh

I was talking in general and well, those movies are made by Americans. But please, don't take me as some sort of stuck-in-my-butt snob, we're perfectly capable of portraying our own history with self-deprecation and, i daresay, pure hatred towards certain figures. I mean, pick any English TV or movie production, you'll always find a subtle commentary about how awful is this or that in this country and how cold and ruthless we can be. It's just that, when you analyze the great majority of Hollywood movies in the last, uh, fifty years, you'll very rarely find a non-stereotyped portrayal of the English, who ALWAYS play the villain and maybe a gay friend, minus Churchill-related movies and not much else.
If the same shite happened to you guys, you'd be as pissed as I am :)
I got absolutely nothing against the fact the war had a clear enemy, nor I've ever said it in my previous post...it's just that i'd like to avoid caricatural portrayals and the english as a whole being Nazi-level evil because they're, well, english

but as you say, maybe we're expecting too much from a game. A Ubisoft game, nonethless. It's just that it takes inspiration from a subject that interests both of us, even though we have different things to analyze

Others have mentioned that the British are not portrayed any worse than the Colonial British.

it is true

in American movies, villains are

1. Evil British
2. Evil Russians
3. Evil Muslims

But I think the real thing you have to remember is that the colonists WERE part of Britain, in very real ways. So if you try to paint all British as comically evil, what does that say about the Colonists?

And both sides committed atrocities, I agree.

But I just don't let the portrayal in hollywood (or anywhere) bother me like that because historical accuracy in films is so incredibly rare to begin with..

Yup, they pretty much considered themselves to be British until the start of the war. Even then, many consider themselves to be British. They were also British by blood.

Also, don't forget evil Nazis.
