Dragon Quest VII coming to Japanese 3DS' [February 7th, 2013]

Let's hope Nintendo does the job.

The only thing Nintendo can do is not distribute and advert the game for them, what makes square lose money becuase they game sells worse, that is what forces them to tranlate their games to PAL-5. Its what happened with Capcom and Phoenix Wright games in Europe, and thank god capcom camed to its senses that time.
The bad thing, is that Nintendo was offering its services to square to translate to italian and spanish KH3D and FFTheatrhytm, and square denied them, so im not seeing much hope for the game to come to all european countires thanks to nintendo.

I hope it can be localized in the West (PAL especially), also considering that 9th episode sold well, and that all the recent main episode have been localized.
I hope both SE and Nintendo will not give up with the franchise over here.
It would be great to see also DQX coming to Wii U oversea (but I know that its nature will be a big problem)

The original rumor said this would be announced at a meeting, to celebrate a certain milestone, and this is apparently leaked from next week's Jump? 3DS reached the 7 million units mark some time ago, and crossed the 7,777,777 mark a few days ago. So... Nintendo press conference/ 2013 preview this week? Probably not... :(

Is this generally considered to be one of the better games in the series?

My only exposure to Dragon Quest is Dragon Quest XI on the DS, which I loved. I'd be interested in picking this up if it ever gets localized.

Celebrate the milestone of Square Enix losing money again.

They were? Is that confirmed? If so...

There's a strong possibility that the 3DS will get MH, DQ, and Pokemon all in the same year next year.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.

I'm sure you'll find everyone has a favorite, but I didn't enjoy the pacing of this one as much originally. The remake might change things up a bit but this is the longest game in the series.

I might be more welcoming to it now though, since I won't be getting DQX.

So it looks like you can street pass stone fragments? I wonder if this is for new extra places, or if it changes the gameplay.

already abandoned my second playthrough of VII, not sure if i can take this another time. i wonder how many hours 3D animations will add on top of an endless game.

i think my original file was 120+hours.

Is this a big deal? I'm not familiar with the franchise.

big for japan. will be ignored everywhere else.

Who/what is the little purple guy with wings between Hero and Kiefer in that one scan? I don't remember anything like that in the original game. I wonder if that might be a new character, like this game's version of Sandy (was that her name, the fairy from IX?) maybe.

The graphics look pretty good. This game would most likely make me spring for a 3DS if it got localized.

Man, I remember playing this game on PSone. Game just kept on going and going and going... I was bored after 3 months of playing. Story was boring and monsters are just color swaps of others. I still think 7 was the weakest of the DQ line.

There's very little chance of this making it to the west. Nintendo seems to lose interest in localizing DQ games. There are still Rocket Slime 3, Terry's Wonderland and DQX waiting to be localized before that.

This rumour had been floating around for quite a while, but I'm really glad to see it turned out to be true. Keeping my fingers crossed for a swift localisation.

I'll bet they're using Terry's Wonderland engine. The scans look similar.

I doubt that, it looks better. Plus I doubt TOSE is doing the remake since they don't usually handle them.

Plus I would hate that since I still think that looks horrible.

Bring over more Slime Mori Mori instead if you have to choose between it and the Terry remake Nintendo/S-E!

I'm happy and all but that just adds another SE game to the pile that I hope gets localized. at least BD:FF looks like it is on its way.

On Wikipedia I've read that DQ7 focusses a lot on puzzles. Is that correct? I didn't actually find any puzzles in DQ6, but puzzle-filled dungeons would make DQ7 a must-have for me.

I guess I get a 3DS whenever this releases in America... though I have been through the game twice and I'm not sure if I can do another 70+ hours...

Wants:
Quick Save!
Additional Jobs
New Dungeon
"Run" button

Other things would be nice:
replacing the CG cutscenes with In game (the existing cutscenes are awful)
retooling the beginning of the game so that you don't spend 20 + hours before unlocking the class system (not by changing the story, just making it flow better. The game is incredibly slow before you start changing classes)

Wonderful! Not really unexpected given the rumors, but still I'm very happy. I'd be even happier if they confirmed a US release. It's one of my favorite entries in the series, I really can't wait for this remake.

Unfortunately I never got the chance to play 7. I loved 9 though. Looking mighty forward to this.

The first 90 minutes of the game have no battles at all. It feels like an adventure game as you move around, talk to people, and uncover a mystery that leads into the game proper - complete with puzzles.

The rest of the game is like a collection of short stories, each taking place within a self-contained island lost to time and space. The stories have their own flavor, a small cast of characters, etc. Some are more focused on normal RPG stuff including combat, some are more puzzle forced.

The game has the most variety out of any DQ game ever made. It's pretty amazing.

Finally the old rumor confirmed. There is nothing left for SquarEnix to remake on the DQ side on 3DS, so what will be next?

That actually sounds like an ideal RPG for me, I vastly prefer variation via puzzles, non-stupid sidequests and exploration over the modern "go from A to B and fight 2372813 enemies on your way" approach. That doesn't mean I'm against battles in RPGs, I just don't like if they are all you have to do despite walking around.

They should bring back canvassing for guests so I actually have a chance to use this feature.

I could see monsters getting localised next year, no chance of rocket slime (well tiny chance on eshop just possibly)
It would really suck if they never bring Rocket Slime 3 over, the DS one would have to be one of my top DS games, it made me love the Dragon Quest games. The amount of character and charm in that game is just amazing. Such a shame if they never bring it over.
