Xenoblade and P4 are both great, but lol if you think P4's dungeons are better than Xenoblade's. Hallways and doors. Endless hallways and doors. But P4 has a better combat system. They are tied, IMO.
Persona 3 Portable at $10 or Person 4 Golden at $40
What say you gaf - I haven't played either and will probably get around to both eventually. But for now, is Persona 4 good enough to hold off on 3 until later? Not to mention there is a certain joy in playing through P4G the same time as lots of other gaffers.

Actually Chie held back! Not a single kick. That anime was pretty good Is it just me or did it seem that they were making Chie and Narukami a canon couple?

That happened? I dropped the anime, after a five or six episodes, but that warms my cold heart.

lol this topic went to the shitter.
None of you guys deserve to play Persona 4 or Xenoblade. Shameless.

Go for 4. The portable version of 3 is the easiest version by a long shot, and cuts out a lot of the exploration in favor of point and click interaction.
Not a bad game by any stretch, but 4 is way, way better.
Persona 4 isn't anything like a visual novel. I'm also curious on how you think Xenoblade has a better battle system and dungeon than Persona 4. No dungeon in Xenoblade is as unique as Marukyu and. Exploration in Xenoblade is a chore and it detracts from one of it's better elements, it's narrative.Heaven
What a clusterfuck of a thread. What does Xenoblade have to do with P4G reviews? The blind ranting from both sides is childish as hell. Grow up and just enjoy video games without having to shit on another unrelated game.
I dunno about you but I spend the majority of my time in dungeons when I played p4. Or fusing.
Just because there are aspects of a VN in the game doesn't make it a VN itself..
Also there are no randomly generated levels in the dungeons. There something like 4-5 preset floor layouts for each floor.
Nope. Walking the city is not exploration, it's a chore.
That's even worse, then. They're just corridors and sometimes there's a square room with a staircase or a chest in it. There's nothing else in them. I expect a computer to not be able to design an interesting level, but nothing designed by a human being should ever be that boring.
Do any of the megafans know why they made that design choice for the dungeons? I never did care for the design and tedium of the dungeons in any of the Persona games. It seems to fit the game I suppose, but I don't know why it is the way it is.
Can any of you articulate the reason?

Well kinda like I said above, there really is no reason to have any important designs in the floor layouts. SOME dungeons do some interesting things, but even those are actually just annoying after you've done them the first time.Yukiko's square dungeon where it flips you around, finding the key for Naoto's laboratory, the 8-bit dungeon, etc
There's not any importance to exploring, aside from farming for chests, and how interesting does that actually have to be? Literally the only other thing I can think of for floor design is ondungeon where one of the floors has good encounter spawns for farming gold encounters for money. There's a clump of 2-3 encounters that you can chain together to get extra bonuses off of the bonus money arcana.Nanako's
What would you guys want out of the floor design that would actually benefit the game?
platforming would be cool *O*
They would have to actually add another feature like this for floor design to be relevant. So if your point is that the dungeons themselves are stale (outside of the random encounter gameplay) then that's legitimate, however there's not much they can do without a major system change. But if you actually are more upset that the floor design is not random, then I really don't understand why.

And here I thought the topic grew due to more reviews or at least some decent P4 discussion. But it seems Xenoblade nuts just need to market and force their game on everyone for the umpteenth time an unrelated thread. Neat.

Also, I would get P4G. It's the easiest Persona/SMT game to get into, and unlike P3P, it doesn't cut out content.
There are so many other RPGs with dungeons that have actual things in them. Puzzles. Traps. Rooms that don't look identical to one another. I do appreciate the one-puzzle-per-two-dungeons-or-so they threw in there. There should be more of them. It's not like they have to completely revamp the entire idea of Persona to put some effort into designing dungeons.
I want to see more random elements. There were a lot of those in Persona 3 Portable, but they didn't make the transition to Persona 4.
Yes I'm a fan of roguelikes. ;_;

The Persona side were the ones who actually started it though. Doesn't really matter now I guess. And here I thought the topic grew due to more reviews or at least some decent P4 discussion. He might be talking about the guys getting lost in the dungeons. It was a nice little touch. Also random floors being pure dark (wasn't fan) or have more/none/golden/red shadows in it (was a fan since the tension of the Reaper showing up was great).random elements?
Random elements? Like what?

You get a bonus on some Tartarus floors (more exp or more frequent item drops) and sometimes you'd get a few set backs (starting in random spots w/o your party, pitch black floor).

Ahh two more weeks before this is mine. I can't wait to play my first Persona ever.... I've heard nothign but great things thus far, so I hope it keeps me entertained for a long time coming.

Is it really better than Xenoblade?
it shits in Xenoblade's mouth, twice.
Yeah, by pandering to the lowest common denominator with waifus and animu hijinks. Those are the things that make a better videogame.
If you seriously want to discuss the possibility of it being the highest reviewed game of all time, you will have to take in mind there will be probably few reviews for this as it's a Vita game and as soon as someone gives it a 6 or 7 the average will crumble.
Is there any way to split up your party and send them to fight and find shit? That was the best part of P3 dungeons.

I still wish they would bring back the ability to use any weapon and different physical types. Yu using a revolver or doing Kung-Fu sounds fun. I still don't know why they removed that ability in P3P. It's one of the main reasons why I like P3FES more.

I have three main suspects in custody.
I'm actually semi ashamed to admit p3p was my first persona... but I'm absolutely hooked now. 2 more freaking weeks.... 2 more damnit!
Serious question:
A lot of hyperbole gets thrown around in positive reviews. Many reviewers will claim a sequel is great for first timers but in reality, plot-wise, it isnt. There's references to old games that are (sometimes) required to understand the context of a certain scene.
Is this going to be the same? Can a new person to the series jump in?
