Persona 4 Golden review thread: The Highest Reviewed Game of All Time and The Future?

On a scale of 1 to 10 Lunar Broken. How broken is it lol?

When they say rebalanced characters, does that mean OP? haha

Came close to canceling my pre-order a couple of times. Still on the fence actually.

Some of the new unique abilities can trivialize the endgame a bit, but you could already do that if you knew what you were doing exactly. Not worth canceling your pre-order over, even more so if you've never played the original.

Persona 4 for the PS2 has a 90% Metacritic rating & a 92% Gamerankings rating so it's highly likely that a portable enhanced version of the game will end up having a very good average rating.

Damn, I am SO GLAD you are in this thread - ok man, so Social Links in the Cthulhu sequel, right? Come on, come on :)

Hey, not bad.

Is it really better than Xenoblade?

There is a certain amount of subjectivity between the two, personally I do find it better then xenoblade but even outside of which one you prefer it still amounts to most likely being two of the best rpg's to come out this year.

Even without any new content or additions it still more then justifies the price you are paying for the game, add in the additions and the fact that they managed to keep all factors of the console game unlike persona 3 portable and you have a great deal.

Well, that certainly clears things up. /Thread, right?

Besides personally not liking Persona 1, and not knowing enough about fighting games to really properly review a game like P4A I would give the other games the same scores.

is the game really that good? What makes it so much better than the other jrpg's out there?

Personally I think that it comes down to two things: the cast and gameplay schedule. Being able to spend time hanging out with characters obviously fleshes them out a bit more, but learning about them gives a frame of context for their arc that they go through. In some cases you find yourself sympathizing and/or relating to these characters.

The gameplay schedule forces you play 1 day at a time and each that isn't allocated to a cutscene has periods of time during the day for activities (ie. during class, after class, night, etc.) This makes your activity choices significant since you don't have infinite time. Some characters can get pissed off at you if you ditch or ignore them, so planning your schedule has repercussions as well.

Also, don't ask about the drama club. Rule 1 about drama club is you don't talk about drama club.

Except it is new content. And there are new events and new voices and new cutscenes and new characters and new moves and new personas and new environments both in and outside of the TV and new ways to interact with people online. What is going on in your head if you don't see any new content besides two social links and a dungeon?

My point is that they're not significant. Ways to interact with people online? You just press the SOS button in a dungeon. That's the extent of it. And the 'new environments' consist of the beach (Which is miniscule and barely used, the new dungeon and the ski trip. Like I say, you're exaggerating how much there is.

And yes, before I joined GAF I sometimes went to GameFAQs. Sue me.

Probably gonna end up being the highest-rated (and most likely best) game that's ever going to be released for the Vita.

No confirmed European release date.

Actually Chie held back! Not a single kick. That anime was pretty good :) Is it just me or did it seem that they were making Chie and Narukami a canon couple?

No, they hinted at Yu with all the girls, yet didn't have any balls to make a canon couple as to not piss off the fanbase. Hell, Yu had more romantic chemistry with Yosuke than any of the girls.

Not really. There are only two social links that can get reversed, and they're only through choice options. From what I remember, none of them get pissed at you if you cancel or ignore them, which could either be a step up or step down from P3FES, depending on how hard you like your games.

I am looking forward to playing though P4 again, especially on the go. Doesn't matter if the new content isn't the best, at least they're not cutting corners like with P3P. Although I hope Atlus is better next gen. This current gen, all we got new SMT wise was both Devil Survivors, Strange Journey, and a goddamn fighting game, with the rest being ports. That's just sad. Things are looking better with SMTIV and P5 on the horizon.

Also, for those saying it will sell like hotcakes, I doubt it. I can see it getting around 60k like the fighting game did. Plus, it's on the Vita which doesn't have that much sales to begin with either. Persona has always been a niche title in the west, which isn't really a bad thing. Hell it's slightly a niche title in Japan compared to the other JRPGs like FF, Tales, and Dragon Quest.

Not sure why this is shocking. Isn't this game Persona 4 + goodies? Of course if you liked P4 you'd like this game. Atlus is fairly good with ports too and remakes as well.

Just import it. Region free platform, brah.

Also, I was thinking, I guess the one good thing that comes out of Golden doing well is more Vitas being sold. More Vitas = more development = more games that might have otherwise been on 3DS on a region-free platform. Yay.

This is exactly why I didn't like Persona 3. I never knew if I was making good use of my time. It made the whole game stressful.

Actually,
any social link can get interrupted if played incorrectly, from the nurse to Kanji, at least in the original game. It's relatively difficult to do, but the easiest way to do it is to plan something, particularly a date, and have those dates overlap. Dating both Yukiko and Chie, for example, will almost inevitably have one of the two running into each other during dates, causing both of their social links to be interrupted and for them to become angry at you for having cheated on them with the other. The only thing that's kind of funny about this is that you would think dating would be a topic of discussion and thus trying to harem it up with two women who are friends would be a terrible idea, but if you manage the schedule correctly it can be played around. Not honestly sure how to feel about that though, since at least Rise is fairly open about the whole idea of multiple partners, so it's honestly hard to say if this is just an admittance that the dating scene might be more open than most might care to admit, at least for younger generations.

Apologies for wall of spoiler.

high school = 'stressful'. for me, it's part of what made the game work well :) ...

Couple of places have it as February 22nd, probably placeholder though.

Well..

NIS America is aiming to bring Persona 4 Golden and Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory to Europe on February 22 and March 15 respectively. Though the official release windows for both remain Spring 2013, a PR representative for NIS America confirmed to Joystiq these are the dates being aimed for, and each game will be released "around that time." Official dates will be announced nearer the time, we're told.

Not sure how accurate that is, but we'll see.

Huh, I never came across that in my playthroughs and I dated everyone. I do recall some times during dates where other girls would show up which lead to funny/awkward scenes, but none of them lead to reverse links like in P3FES.

Oh, well in that manner you're correct, they aren't like the reverse links like in FES. I still feel that FES is the superior jRPG, if not the superior game, even though I liked the distinctive personalities of P4.
