Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward |OT| -- More Hours, More Persons, More Doors

I'll echo most of the sentiments from the others, though I'd say that controls are player preference (personally I think the Vita controls are fine, and no better/worse than the stylus on 3DS would be), but the Vita definitely has the better visuals. Where the 3DS has the advantage is, as you said, nothing is tucked away in menus. Most of the UI is pretty straightforward on both systems, but there's a row of icons on the 3DS's bottom screen that are in a menu on the Vita. It's a minor thing, really, and you don't use it often, but still the 3DS has the edge there. Also, if you use the note function a lot, writing with the stylus is the winner. However, the Vita's OS-level screenshot function is very helpful in parts of the game, which was a big plus for me.

I'd say Vita is the best on the virtue of its visuals (they really are stunningly sharp, and seeing VLR's level of AA on a handheld is great), but it's not "wait for six months until I get the system" better, and so long as you're aware of the save game bugs that the 3DS version has then it's a perfectly good version of the game to get.

Enjoy!

There's a couple points in the game,
"DON'T FORGET THIS"
where being able to write notes has been a godsend, especially the math puzzles.

I think playing with the Vita + Capacitive stylus was ace. Since the notepad overlaps with anything that is on screen it made solving some puzzles much quicker than it would have normally taken me.

My index finger was just about good enough to handle the note-taking of math puzzles. As for the spoilered section... PS Button + Start takes a screenshot and saves it to the memory stick. Vita can multitask too, so I don't have to quit out of the game to look at it when I need it for reference.

Yeah I screened those every time just in case I erased the written ones in my notes.

The credit thing would have annoyed me if they weren't like 2 minutes. And the music that plays is a good match to your mind going 'what the motherfuck'.

goddamnit, how could I forget about vita screencap function, I actually took the time to prepare capacitive stylus ready for note taking, even waste 1 page of the note to write what I felt very important stuff and never erase them

Dio ending get! This shit is getting crazy.

I knew something was up with the guy that made him so unlikable, but damn did I not see that coming. He's pretty much this game's Ace, but worse, and yet he has no control over it because he's a friggin clone from an insane cult. Guess I'll be fine with both hating and feeling bad for him.

Also, Phi/Sigma dimension hopping! I mean yeah, it was obvious for players of 999 and getting this far, but it's nice to have confirmation.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
European 3DS consoles are getting a demo of VLR, this week.

VLR demo and Pullblox! What a week!

Oh wow, I'm dumb. In the Archives, I thought
you needed to match both the die color AND the number, I didn't realize it separated the normal password and the hidden files password. Wouldn't have even known if Sigma didn't say anything when I quit out of it once.

Same thing happened to me earlier. I was so confused when doing the puzzle over the exact same way didn't give me the gold file password lol.

Also, WTF at the K ending.

My game has shipped from playasia.

Thing is I only played the demo on PSN which was more like an intro movie than demo ( not surprisingly since it was 155MB) and that's it.

Reason I purchased it was of the review scores it received. Anyway, looking forward to putting in some time in it when it arrives hopefully later this week.

For someone completely new to the series, which difficulty level should I choose?

Overall, is it a hard game?

Thanks

Eh, the puzzles are pretty easy even on hard. I only got stuck a couple of times and it was mostly me over thinking things or not having all the information needed for solving the puzzles. Play it on hard or you'll breeze through the game.

Alice's Ending:

Alice was such a bitch in this route I didn't care for her story one bit. It did have some nice connections to 999, but the entire thing with her father was pretty meh. Sure it's plot important and connected to the main storyline, but it barely made me care for Alice herself.

The whole part with the bombs was definitely the highlight, though. Sigma was AMAZING here, and the part where he tricks Dio to confess has got to be one of the game's coolest moments.

Welp, i'm in the home stretch... Hopefully I get time Tuesday to finish it.

I have a 15 page lecture-thesis due that I need to work on because it's due Wednesday -_-

I don't wanna wait any longer!

I hated Alice and Clover in this. Both incredibly unlikeable.

The puzzles are the same on both difficulty levels. You just get more hints on the easy level. The game defaults to hard with any new puzzle anyway and you can switch at any time. So just play it on hard and when you're stuck switch to easy.

Dio’s ending. WUT? I mean it’s obvious they
aren’t on Earth and are probably on Mars,
but still. WUT?

Seeing Sigma with
white blood.
WUT? Surely he’s
not a robot,
that seems too obvious, but still. WUT?

Also.......I just noticed that Sigma isn’t
shown when Zero Jr is telling them all about the rules.
WUT!?!

Finished the game with all trophies last night, meaning I played through on Hard. The puzzles weren't terribly difficult, but I did make mistakes by overthinking some of them. I smacked myself on the head a few times because of how obvious the solutions were. I didn't play 999, but I did read a brief summary before starting. I wish I had played it, now, but, boy, was this an awesome experience. You really need to suspend belief for some of the more outrageous plot points and obvious plot holes, but it's easy to do, in this case. The characters are likable, the setup is intriguing, and the atmosphere is first rate. I hope it's successful enough to warrant another game in the series. Now I'm just deciding what to play on Vita next: Dokuro, Ragnarok Odyssey, or Rayman Origins (which I've platinumed on PS3, but I'm in the mood to replay).

Played until the battery died on my Vita yesterday. I was like FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU because I hadn't saved in a while, but luckily my game was still suspended when I charged it back up.

Am I the only person who enjoyed Alice's character? Though, I'll agree that Clover was a poor character. She was simply a paperweight that smiled at awkward moments.

I liked Alice up until I cleared more routes. It's funny how an opinion can evolve after seeing other sides of the cast.

Sigma's Ending

OK, woah.

First, the white blood freaked me out. To this point I figured Sigma had some weird trait about him, but I never expected he was a robot, or part robot as it was later revealed. The whole scene with Luna after the whole Bomb stuff was kinda cute, and we got some nice reveals. OK ending, but in the end, it felt rather short for being the ending centered on the main character.

Sigma's bad ending was creepy as fuck, though (and horribly depressing).

Quark's Ending

This one started out pretty intense, with Sigma crushing his own hand with the 9 Door after being in the brink of death. We get some info that pretty much confirms the Old Lady is Akane, and Quark is back. Then we get some hilarious comedy relief with Sigma's thoughts on "repopulating the Earth".

REALLY disappointed that Quark was BARELY in his ending, though. Sure, his story was mostly told in Tenmyouji's ending, but damn, he didn't deserve to be shafted in his own portion of the game. It was bad enough he was barely in the route to begin with.

And to add insult to injury, Alice steals everyone else's thunder by killing herself at the ending's climatic point. You sucked in your own ending, Alice, so now you have to come and steal another character's ending. And one that I liked at that. Fuck you, Alice.
