So where's the Nokia thread? Im changing allegiance and over paying for the 920

Huh? Reason?

Also, did MS ever give an official reason for not bringing local scout to certain countries? Because it works pretty well over here in Germany if you change the language to English.

Local Scout is a mess. I used to be able to use it by changing my search to US on WP7, but now it doesn't work for see+do, etc on my 920. I still get to swipe to the side in Bing for Movies, News, etc. though.

yeah the reboots, HTC reached out to me as my handset has a fairly consistent reboot time of an evening, random during the day but could almost set a watch to it at night, so they want my handset to investigate.

my reward for helping them? Upto three weeks without a handset, and then when i do get it, it'll be a refurb, which they claim will be fault free, but as they don't know wtf is going on how can they guarantee it???

Ouch. Pretty idiotic way to handle this.

I really hope that my brother's phone doesn't have those issues.

took over a week for it to rear its head, hard resets don't fix, not having Facebook or skype doesn't fix it, and it gets worse then better, last week i had it reboot 4 times in a row, i remained calm, and ive not moaned about it here, i reported it to HTC and that's their customer service they can forget it, 7 of my last 9 phones have been htc's so i was trusting them to fix it, but as i say that's poor form for handset that's 22 days old.

its a wonderful handset and id love to keep it but HTC's attitude has pissed me off.

I had an 8X lying around for two days to set it up properly. I disabled NFC and uninstalled Skype (after the report of that synch-loop bug) to avoid some of the reported issues. I played around with it for quite some time and it never displayed any issues. Battery life was great, too. Really great phone.

I am just curious were you using any Blue-tooth device?

Also the random day time reboot and on schedule remind me of the Focus reboot with memory card. May be it's similar issue, bad memory management.

Well, sorry about your 8X, I was thinking about using my remaining upgrade to pick one up as 2nd phone since it was free but I think I should just hold off. Lumia next might be announce at WMC.

Nope, Bluetooth and NFC switched off, all the voodoo that has been suggested in other forums tried but it still continues, the fact it affects some Nokia's is kind of worrying, but it does seem to be of a lesser extent or people haven't noticed it yet, it was only because I noticed that the webpages I had been browsing were no longer in IE and music I'd paused was no longer selected, that I realised what was happening and then I noticed it more.

As to the email sync bug mentioned, I've never experienced it on my 8X even when I was rolling it with Skype and Facebook installed and that was with 4 email accounts on notify instantly.

I'm not sure what it is but I get the feeling talking to HTC they think it's a Microsoft issue, I just know as much as I love this handset HTC have lost a long time customer because of their Customer Service.

Both of my Lumia never reboot spontaneously I did have a few crash. My old Lumia would die in the sleep and need soft reset, my current Lumia so far is fine, but it did crash and reboot when I try to use my car blu-tooth mic. I can replicated it so its a bug for sure.

I hope MS roll out a quick fix soon and not wait till Apollo+ because this would be a death sentence for the OS. I noticed some other bugs like volume for podcast get stuck. Bluetooth, I connect easier but the compatibility is worst than WP7, at least on my old phone I can use the car microphone some of the times, though it would often bug out.

Would like to have seen the Wi-Fi fix before February :(

Don't you remember how it was with the NoDo fix after WP7 hit? They kept talking about that a ton around launch to, but that took till the new year got rolling to release as well.

Sadly it just seems par for the course in terms of how fast MS is with things. Heck a lot of the "new" features coming beyond the bug fixes are just things MS didn't get done for actual WP8 launch. Quick updates definitely still hasn't entered the WP team vocabulary.

they approach it as if they are leaders not a niche trying to gain share, the two annual updates only flew on 360 as people weren't used to it, next gen i have a feeling ms will be behind on the console is, like they are on mobile

We've lived with it for over two years, what is another couple months? We should be happy that they decided it was an issue instead of sticking with the "operating as intended" line :p

Besides, it is the holidays and they all probably put in ridiculous hours just to get WP8 to us in late October. You guys need to remember that these are people, not machines.

I got a WP7 after NoDo. I have been turning my data off at home, so that's why I would like the Wi-Fi fix quicker if possible.

You say NoDo roll-out, I say Mango launch. That shit was impressive for a non-Apple device.

Heck, it was an hour ago, when I got Jelly Bean 4.2 pushed to my unlocked, pure and free Google GSM Galaxy Nexus. That update launched two weeks ago.

My mom (48, can perform basic computer tasks) is getting a new phone. She really likes the design of 8X, but having no opportunity to try it out at the stores here, doesn't know if the UI is simple enough for her. In my experience, iOS is generally the simplest and easiest to use, but she doesn't like the iPhone. WP8 was simple to me, but could be quite confusing to older people due to stylish UI. What's your opinion, GAF?

It take my wife a bit to use, but now she's very comfortable and she hate learning any new UI. She thought iOS was hard to use...and was for the longest time only using her Windows laptop.

Shit, I am old enough to be your dad. I think I am getting too old to hang out on Gaf.

I'll put it like this. My uncle just updated from a Sony Walkman phone which still had a Cingular sim. He doesn't even have a computer and this is the first time he's used email. Even he can use the phone.

Weird, my Lumia buttons have the yellowish tint now.

So they were bright white before on your replacement phone? Or had you not really noticed?

Mine does also now. The first one was bright white.

Same here, except my second phone has always had the yellow tint. I'm assuming there are LED lights behind the buttons, can those LED lights change color? I thought they were usually a pre-determined color that didn't change.

The bright white makes the phone look more high tech/sleek, yellow tint makes it look dull and like old tech. This yellow is stll bothering me...are either of you going to exchange your phone?

It doesn't bother me.

The roll out itself has been decent. It's getting to the roll out phase. I was talking more about getting to when they were ready to launch NoDo. I'll fully admit at least when an update is pushed it seems very easy for anyone to get it verses being in limbo with an update out there only for certain people.

Alright, GIMP is being a POS and crashing anytime I try to place text on an image. I can post the OT, but it technically won't be complete until I figure out wtf is going on. Any takers for a few banners, or should I just post it as is and edit later?

Very honest discussion. I might follow her more. There are some points she makes don't really follow the examples she gives (developers--->instagram), but overall I like this a lot.

Good vid, I'm going to "follow" her as well, :lol

I'm no programmer, but how hard could it be to put something like instagram on WP8?

Maybe it's some type of platform exclusivity deal/timed exclusivity preventing them for porting to WP.

Post it and I can make some changes during my lunch break or second break.

I'm a programmer, but for something like Instagram where the infrastructure is already there, not hard at all. I would say that it would take a small team (5-10 guys) on the Facebook payroll 2 or 3 weeks max to port it over, and that's being generous. Reason is, is because they already have the assets made and they have access to the source code for both platforms. They also already know the design of Instagram and how it's expected to work, so they wouldn't need to do as much design stuff.

The reason that something like Instagram isn't hard to do is because it's a client. All the client does is send user input, display the feeds from the servers and allow you to select an image from your hard drive/take a photo with the camera, apply a filter to the image (remember they already have the assets for those), then upload it to the servers.

...of course, this is all assuming that the Instagram developers made it while following the generally accepted programming principles; it could be like Skype where the codebase was in such disarray that Microsoft had/still is rewriting the program from scratch to make it easier to code in. This also doesn't include any time it would take to test it for bugs and put it through certification.

What is facebooks plan for instagram anyway? Do they want to integrate it or keep it as a seperate app forever?

I remember when they bought it they said they would keep it separate until they came up with an amazing way to integrate it and that until then they will keep them separate
