Yakuza 5 demo - 11/27/2012 (JAP PSN)

Downloaded this and played a bit of it. How many sidequests are there? I encountered two and then I had to stop playing. There was the kid taking the entrance exam and Haruka, are there any other ones? Also, the drum mini game is my new favorite mini game now. Simply awesome! I really want to import this...tempting....but I kinda want to use that money to buy TOV costumes...

Let clear this..Dragonzord were saying the child prostitution plot might not allow Kenzan to get to the west, I was just saying that SEGA left a long cutscene of a man touching a kid in Yakuza 4(which is in your face, not just hinted like in Kenzan).

so the child prostitution plot in Kenzan is not really an excuse to not get Yakuza Kenzan to the west ( they can cut or change that part of the story and no one will notice)in many JRPG localizations they change that sort of things.

i see, got ya, well in context it doesn't seem as compulsive

Made a japanese account and downloading.

Man is it just the japanese store or was the old psn store this barren?

This franchise is the very definition of same old crap, isn't it? I haven't played a Yakuza game since the second...this is exactly the same. :lol Some of the finishers are kinda funny/cool, but I really don't see the point.

If you are playing it for the fighting, then you probably should not bother.

They improve with each title, new locations, and pretty good plots. They add a lot to the side-stuff too.

Yeah there's the side stuff I guess and I'm guessing that has become more rampant with each title

I dunno, the fighting didn't seem different. Although honestly I haven't played Y2 since it came out.

Does it at least look better than yak 4?

Semblance

shhh Graham I'm still compiling this Radiant map
Demo seems pretty ballin'. Fighting feels tighter, the heat moves are more brutal than ever now. Raked some dude's face across the pavement. Awesome. New city seems really cool, although you can only explore so much. Graphics got a nice bump up from Y4. (What on Earth @ the water though.

Really want more. We aren't ever getting it Stateside, are we

Just finished playing through the demo. MOTHER OF GOD. I'm importing regardless of whether SEGA announces a NA release.

I love the nearly seamless battle system. And the graphical upgrades are great! Just being in a Family Mart that's different for the first time was amazing. xD

The other Haruka mini-quest was hilarious, though after I helped her out I wasn't sure what she wanted (my Japanese is pretty limited).

Anyways, as always GAF thanks for posting about this or I probably wouldn't have known! <3

I love how they improved the animations in the new engine. Mostly small details like Kiryu bumping into pedestrians and walking up stairs are now a bit more refined.
Once again day 1 import for me.

There are pretty progressive, albeit subtle improvements in each iteration. (Yakuza 3 made some pretty massive changes to the item system. and 4 added 3 new playable characters and changed how moves were learned for the better.)

Probably hard to get a good sense of that in the demo though

So wait I should be doing Face button, D-Pad, face button when I have a set of red dots approaching?

You have to time the button presses so you can hit all the notes in that situation.

If I remember correctly, here are the mappings:

D-pad = left red section of the drum
Face buttons = right red section of the drum.
L1/L2 = Left blue rim
R1/R2 = Right blue rim

When you see small notes/circle, you need to press the corresponding button of that color (doesn't matter if it's left or right as long as you hit one). If you see a large note/circle you need to press both sides of that color.

Not mainline. Also a launch game.

Also has child prostitution in it.

It's easily the best one, though.

Well, I still haven't played 4, but it was the best of the first four games.

Has this been announced for the west or will I have to learn Japanese...

No word of it getting a release outside of Japan as of yet unfortunately :(

I spent all last night playing the demo, its exactly what I wanted from a Yakuza sequel and I was impressed with all the numerous changes they've made to basically every part of the game. THe new combat felt nicely familiar yet I loved the changes to certain moves (the backflip from your running kick attack is a great inclusion) and I love the new heat animations (especially the one for the bike). Regards to the Red Heat mode, do you get access to Kiryu's super Heat move while in Red Heat state or is that locked for the demo? As I couldn't figure out how to perform it...
Also, another confusing thing I ran into when fighting was randomly activating a Heat move without my heat bar being full (I sometimes got a triangle prompt when I was close to an enemy, which in turn made me do a couple of quick QTE button presses. It looked like it was a revelation? I know you can get revelations when in mid battle in this game but the game didn't seem to make it very clear...)

I also really liked the little changes they made to shops and restaurants and especially the arcade which I spent lots of time in. Getting the Miku toy from the crane game took a lot of trial and error, its insanely strict when it comes to positioning the crane. In contrast I managed to win all 3 of the Panzer Dragoon toys out of the other machine on my first try!

It's great that people are getting a chance to try the Taiko no Tatsujin series for the first time via this game/demo. Remember that if you want the full experience there have been a load of those games on DS and PSP, which are both region free, and they're perfectly playable without Japanese knowledge :)

And this is why I love it.

I can't understand the people who buy COD or FIFA every year but I would happily buy a Yakuza game every year.

Always different, always the same.

...anyone else not getting any voice audio in the opening (with kazzy at the diner)? i get all the other audio except the voices, don't know whats up

oh man what

i was just gonna say how this "fight-where-you-stand" chrono trigger shit is the best addition to the engine in forever (combat is so smooth!) but then kazzy heat-finished a dude by curb-stomping him, then rubbing his face against the street for a while, holy shit

What's that?
Where is it?

I don't think Haruka is even in this City.

Haruka(not the Haruka who's part of the main game, the npc who has the same name as her) is located west part of the city near underneath the bridge near the waterway(I think it's west). When you start the demo, instead of going to the direction where you are supposed to meet those two guys, go in the opposite direction towards the bridge. You should see a dialog box and a dog(pretty sure).

I'll edit this post whenever I play the demo again and have a better recollection in where it is.

Though the inclusion of the arcade was awesome, I do not think this was a very good demo.

Heat actions are sort of weird to me. They seem more common, but less graphically devastating. I also wonder what difficulty setting this game was on, seems easier than Yakuza 4 already. Don't think I got to fully explore the combat system, can't read any of the menus naturally.

I don't think Haruka is even in this City.

The girl in the dog sub quest is named Haruka. But that quest is not a funny one but with a serious tone. Kazuma also implied...gave us a vague hint why he and Haruka don't live together anymore in the conversation with the girl.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

Not sure in what order the protags will go this time, but Kiryu is always BEAST MODE and thats why he was last to play as in Yakuza 4.

Enjoyed the demo, wasn't as good as the mind blowing Yakuza 4 demo (dat rain, dat titty ping pong), but I destroyed a thugs testes by slamming him down onto a bollard so its all good. Probably not enough time to fix whatever the fuck is going on with that river/canal water though.

Ooooooh don't worry I did that part. Didn't realize she had the same name. :)

I threw some of the in the river. :)

Cool, what was the hint? :)

Also if you don't mind could you tell me what those two men were saying when Haruka was on TV, which got Kazuma mad.
Thanks.

where is the arcade? im guessing this one-horse town doesn't have a Club Sega

It does. :p

I have no idea where it was, I was just running around and came across it.

I think the demo area is fairly small though, right? Shouldn't be too hard to find.

I also found the ramen shop in the demo.

It's something like "Look, a popular idol competition program on TV. I don't understand the parents who let their daughter to be an idol. I imagine those kids have to do some dirty stuff to get a job."

How playable is this demo without Japanese knowledge?
Not that much at all if you just want to fight or play the mini games. They also tell you where to go for the main mission. To know what's going on, then yeah, u need to know Japanese. You can play the Haruka sub quest and just guess in what to do easily. The student taking entrance exam sub quest requires you to know Japanese since the questions & answers are, well, in Japanese. :p My Japanese isn't that great but I got a 4 out of 5 when I first played it. I think I got the Japanese history question wrong...

I'd like to believe it's very likely. I mean, we did get all the mainline ones. I heard dead souls did pretty good too, even though it was rather meh.

I suppose if there is no mention of it by E3 2013, then I might start to worry. I would hope it would come out by summer next year though.

Lmao no way. That can't be it

That'd be sooooooo out of character if Kazuma just disowned Haruka over that.

The demo is short but what is there is pretty sweet. Love the new transition to battles, and I hope all the mini-games make it here. That pavement face plant is brutal too.
