Soooo, how is this game on Wii U? More specifically, how is the online multiplayer?

I really wish there was a demo up on eShop. I'm torn on buying this, or a game like AC3 or NG3:RE.

The game on Wii U is pretty good. Pretty much your fun arcade racer. There are some issues, the DLC I think causes the game to mess up. For instance, you can't do all of World Tour or some of the modes are broken. Online right now is a mess. It drops connection randomly even during the race. It takes a while to find some people, and usually they quit because they are either impatient or rage quitting. However, with the glitches, you are still able to do a lot, and have fun if you have a couple of friends with you or on your friends list.

Buy this. Both of those games are worse on the WiiU compared to the others.

Thanks for racing tips. Will save up All-Star power-up next time.

BTW, in addition to Wii U's broken boost challenges, I can't believe the multiplayer's mini-games like that Ninja Tag one and the Banana Heist are completely broken too. My friends and I were dying of laughter after Ninja Tag ends where it begins and Banana Heist where the Gamepad user is placed on top of third player at the top at the start of the game crushing them immediately and ending their game. Banana Heist on the neon space stage is a laugh riot as well since the game drops all players down in space immediately respawning you and dropping you down again. Tears of laughter flowed from me after that.

Also, this game's digital manual is useless. WTF do you have to do in Banana Heist anyway?

LOL such a broken game.

Finally got the Wii U version. As I've mentioned before, I've been wanting the game pretty bad for months now, and the demo on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 just made me want it even more. Hah.

Just got done playing it with my brother for a bit. Lot's of fun, man! He played on the Wii U gamepad, and I played on the Classic Controller. My only complaint with the game is that the Classic Controller uses the tiny little ZL and ZR buttons for accelerating and breaking, which is weird, but it didn't stop me from owning every race. :p

I also skipped updating the game, as I don't want any of those glitches messing up my game. Haha. Hopefully the new patch will finally be up this week...hopefully later today.

I know updates still download while you're playing a game and install the next the time you play it, but I swear I saw an option to delete updates, so I'll check that out right before I play it again.

Anyway, I'll totally be playing this nonstop for a good while! Gonna tear up those races and challenges with Ulala! Aww, yeah!

What has changed with the drifting mechanic? I am doing considerably worse in races than I was in S&SAR, and I feel like I am not able to drift as easily as in the first game.

Poor announcer, I disabled him as he yelled "This is my only job!".

LOL that's amazing. I love little touches like that.

Also, to beat a dead horse, this game is f**ing hard. Jeez. Still fun though. Although I just can't get a hang of drifting. I can barely pass easy on the first drifting challenge ):

I finally started up this game on the Wii U and I noticed lots of slowdown. Seems the game.is more.challenging than Mario Kart so thats one aspect I do like. I dont have online yet so I cant take advantage of Wii U's features gahhh

What exactly does Bonus Edition mean again?

...BTW, in addition to Wii U's broken boost challenges...

So I'm not crazy? My roommate and I were getting frustrated trying to beat these challenges and we just kept thinking, "Clearly there is just something we aren't doing right." I drift as much as I can w/o hindering performance, getting stunt boosts, etc., and still can't beat these boost challenges. From what I'm hearing though, this sounds like a glitch, yes?

Sumo completed the patch over a week ago. It's been sitting with Nintendo that long as well.

C'mon Nintendo! Release the patch!!

Yes. Some of the boost challenges are glitched. The US is still waiting for a patch

Can someone confirm whether you can play the Wii U version 2 player splitscreen online like Mario Kart Wii but you can BOTH sign in with your NNID? Unlike MKWii which only allowed player 1 to sign in.

Also does it allow 1 player on the TV and 1 player on the gamepad ONLINE?

Thanks!

I'm finally at my stopping point. I have 95% completed of the game, and that's without the boost challenges and several other things. I have S ranked all the GPs and all the challenges I am able to do. All I can do now is either wait for the patch or "try" to play online.

Oh patch, why are you not here yet? D:

So the WiiU version is still not fixed? I'll wait for bomba price then. It's a shame because I was interested on the low MSRP.

Edit: oh, didn't read it was already fixed in Europe. Might get it then.

So I got to try out local mult-player in the Wii U version and here is what I noticed.

With one person on the gamepad and one person on the tv, the frame rate is not locked at 30fps like it is in single player.

During areas with heavy water(boat driven)the frame rate can drop drastically..like down to sub 15-20fps. When on the roads, the frame rate is consistenly around 30fps, sometimes dips and sometimes higher. However during the airplane laps the frame rate can increase well above 30fps and even hit 60fps. It's very inconsistent and Im wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Can you play normal split screen? If so, is that any better?

I think it's easily the best kart racer ever made. I just can't really crack the higher difficulty levels. Other than that, it's pretty much flawless. So, so much fun.

Definitely, really in love with this game even though I get slaughtered at A+ ranks.

It would appear that disc-wise the game managed to sell nearly 50,000 units based on what TSSZ reported:
http://www.tssznews.com/2012/11/30/report-asrt-us-debut-soft-on-360-ps3/
http://www.tssznews.com/2012/11/30/report-asrt-wii-u-sells-30k-in-launch-week/

I honestly hope that the game manged to make more sales via digital distribution, as it was the 5th top selling WiiU eShop game.

TBH I expect the biggest boost in disc release sales to be during X-Mas, so hopefully it'll make 100,000+ disc sales by January.

Gamefly sent me the game and I chose to "keep" it before I even received this disc :p

I'll be on WiiU: ID = BlakeRo

Yup, I deleted the update before starting the game. No glitches for me! :)

I'm not sure if you can delete an update after it gets installed, though. I'll have to check that out. But if you haven't updated the game, press the Home button and go to the Download Management, click on the update data for the game, and delete it. Keep doing that every time before you play, and you should be fine. I imagine the online won't work without the update, but oh well! :p

Here's hoping the new patch is up real soon...

P.S. I'm posting this from my Wii U while playing the game. Haha.

Hmm, I haven't run into these issues.

Are you playing on 360? If so, I'm surprised. I played a few games last night, all in different match making lobbies. My net connection is fine. I've recently been playing Halo 4 online with no issues. This however... it never seems to finish me in the correct place. Sometimes I finish third, it puts me second. Sometimes I come first and I somehow end up sixth.

During a race on the Sonic Casino Night style stage, I finished my last lap only for it revert back to Lap 2. Despite the announcer shouting "THIRD PLACE", I'd actually came second. Once the results screen appeared, I was listed under DNF. To make things worse, it then proceeded to deduct 60 points off me despite me actually coming in a position where I should have gained points.

With that, I turned the game off and I've put it away. I'm done.

Yeah that happened to me today as well. I don't really mind. I only play online to level up characters. Also, surprisingly enough, I was able to play some ten player matches this morning, was alright.

THIS. Ludicrous that it isn't out here yet.

That's good to hear though, but I'm still yet to find a match that has worked properly. If the online does actually start to work, there are more annoyances. It seems to have some strange feature that turns down the game audio whenever somebody speaks into their microphone. It's especially annoying when all they're doing is singing, coughing or rustling a packet of crisps. Call me stupid, but I can't find a way to mute them either.

I'm thinking of trading this back in anyway. I have played through a fair amount... I'm just not enjoying it as much as I did the first one. It has so many problems... all of which become very difficult to look past when it's forcing you to overcome them to unlock characters. Some stuff I do not know how got into the final version. Take for example: The NiGHTS stage has some terrible level streaming issue where parts of the level don't load if you gain a large enough amount of airtime. It's especially noticeable when driving down the water rapids section.

I'd say this game looks good on the surface, but dig a little deeper and there are a tonne of problems. Sumo, I am disappoint. You're a fair way off Mario Kart yet!

You are right. The game has a lot of issues, but I'm sure they will patch it up.... eventually...
It's still fun though. Perhaps give it more time?

In the Wii U version every time I complete the final lap online it says "Lap 2" and I end up getting a DNF. Anyone else having this problem?

It really sucks because I'm at the bug on world tour at 165 stars, so I can't really play single player or online multiplayer now...

Still don't understand why some of the first achievements didn't unlock while I got the others without a hitch. I'd like to get the 1000g but it looks like I won't be able to do so.

Happens to me sometimes, you just have to get lucky or race with friends.

Just checked, and yes, it looks like you can delete the update data after it's been installed. Just go to System Settings, then Data Management, choose the drive, then go to game data, and the update should be there. Then just choose it, hit the large delete button, and then you should be able to play through all of Career mode with no issues on the Wii U. Just make sure it doesn't update.

I'm on Chapter 4, and have had zero issues or glitches so far.

The extra Wii U multiplayer modes should work, too. No online though, I'd imagine. I haven't tested those, though.
