Because the PS3 store is atrocious now.
Don't mind the Vita store, it's still fast and slick. But this is a great step forward for Sony.

The website isn't great, as it's still an absolute pain to find certain content. There is no PS1 page for example. They need to step up their game.

I did notice one possible glitch with it - added the 3 EU PS+ games and checked out, went to my download list on PS3 and Vanquish and Batman were there, but only the unlock key for Limbo was added, not the trial for it.
Possibly I already downloaded the trial before at some point, or it was a bug, I'm not sure.

If you downloaded the trial is on your list on the day you did it.
PS: I can't understand why sony don't let us search on our downloadlist.

Yeah, getting the trial of limbo is a pain in the ass. Most games have an option to change what you are downloading on the game page (iirc), but Limbo only gives you the unlock key download. Had to go through my download list to get it, the game was released on 20th of July 2011 so best head to around that mark to find the trial.
It's still better than Microsoft/Nintendo, right?

Purchasing stuff when not near your PS3?
Not at the moment, but you have to imagine something like that is in the works.
As for what use, well it allows you to take advantage of sales when you might not be near your PS3 if nothing else.
Why would it be better than MS'? That one is pretty fast.
So how does it work? You buy it from the webstore and you have to navigate to your download list on your PS3 and manually download it?

It currently does not do that but I have a feeling that they might add that functionality to PS+ members.
Right now the store is there so that you can access and buy stuff without using your PS3. It's just the content will be added to your download list and you can pull it from there.
As others said on the first page doesn't seem like it. Same point as other similar stores to this I'd say, things like not missing sales, or just comfort of use (keyboard, etc.).

store is still kinda slow, but it's WAY faster than the ps3 one. still needs some work but it's a very good step forward.

(By then I am either so "meh" that I don't even want to purchase any longer, or I've lost my free time for the day and don't get to play what I just purchased until some other itme). When it eventually does, it'll crash before I get to check out. So this would be really useful if I could circumvent the entire store on the PS3 some how and just purchase on the web and have it automatically start downloading on my PS3.

Well if the problem is simply with the store I'd think you can go to the transactions manager (or whatever the name) to activate and download, making you able to fully circumvent the store.
You are actually right, it is literally ten times faster than on the PS3, with IE.
PS3 - 30 seconds
Firefox - 20 seconds
Chorme - 17 seconds
IE - 3 seconds
Everyone, switch to IE to purchase stuff from the SEN webstore!

You don't have to access the store now. The download list is accessible from the account management section under the PSN category on the XMB.
Yep, I know about that, pity it's missing an absolute shitload of games. The Vita store lists 128 PS1 games alone - which only includes the compatible games - the website lists 50. Lol.
Plus the website banner isn't actually labelled PS1 (like it is on the Vita store for example) and the link can only be found on that one page, where's the link in the sidebar?

Yeah, though that's not a rare occurrence. I've noticed that the PS3 store is missing a number of PSP games that show up just fine on the Media Go store. Pretty sure that mess is just down to SCEE incompetence.

Which store are you using on the Vita? US? IIRC EU store has much fewer PS1 games.

Seems like these things are coming in the future:
- remote download from the pc store
- android/ios? app. Probably integrated with the existing psn app there
- recommendation might allow you to write something out like in google play and iOS instead of just rating stars
Wonder if you will be able to remote download ps3 games from the vita store too.
Initial load is still slow and doesn't work on people using linux. Furthermore, you can't watch movies on macs or linux because you need media go.
And the performance of the store on ps3 is still a joke.
