NFL Wild Card 2012 |OT| You Need An Ace In The Hole

Neil Best of Newsday reports that FOX has shuffled the order of their broadcast teams for the Divisional Playoff round. Thom Brennaman and Brian Billick will call one of the games for the network with Joe Buck and Troy Aikman handling the other game. That means FOX’s longtime No. 2 broadcast team of Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston and Tony Siragusa will be benched for the playoffs.

Brennaman and Billick are working in Atlanta next Sunday. I believe Billick is related to Mike Smith by marriage.
I'm glad all the media will be talking about RG III playing hurt and Russell Wilson winning as a rookie for the next week. ESPN gets some new headlines and will smear Shanahan in the process. I listened to the post game interviews. I think Shanahan did what he thought was best at the time. He would have been criticized for not playing RG III if the Redskins had lost.

Shanahan should be fired for what he did, but this is the NFL so I expect half the talking heads to pretend like it was some kind of tossup decision when it was obvious to everyone that RG3 was hurt

Shanahan carried the sorry Redskins to gambling and getting RG3. You are lucky to have him as your head coach.

Late replies...

Appreciate the response. Don't think the intent is for there to be any sort of experts and novices. Just people who want to learn more or discuss it beyond the taco stuff

Yeah, appreciate you taking it the way I meant it. Again, I would love to be proven wrong, you know :).

Was this pointed at me? If so, there wont. I will never support the break up of the thread. This is like when South broke up from North(the people wanting a separate thread are the South in this scenario). On a serious note, you get what you make of the thread. Throwing your hands up like a girl and trying to make a elite thread won't solve anything.

No, not at all. I know you wouldn't. I meant the mindless version of ":jnc". Not your comments. I would never think you would derail a thread just for the sake of it. Not at all... It was meant as a general dynamic in this thread. I like it to a certain extent, it just gets out of hand sometimes.

Also, congrats to the Seachickens and the Ravens. Looking forward to next week's games.

LeBron loves his girlfriend. There is no other woman in the world he’d rather have. The problem is, Dwyane’s not a woman.

Part of Browns search will now include Bruce Arians and Marc Trestman. Don't know who else could be in mix yet.

Not only did he gamble a franchise stars safety to win a game, which makea him an awful person, he was completely incompetent as a coach in letting him play when he was unable to run the offense

RGIII could have Cutler'd himself whenever he wanted to. As much his fault as it is Shannys.

ESPN just said that the Redskins didn't run a single play in Seahawks territory after the 1st quarter. I said goddamn!

Ooo CFL connection.

Trestman helped build up a dominant team in Montreal. He won back to back Grey Cups a few years ago but the team has fallen off the last few years with their QB getting older and more injury prone. Despite that he's still always fielding a top team.

WTF is a grey cup......

So he can just pick up where he leaves off in Canada.

Shanny lost the game by keeping RGIII in there and not even trying to run the ball traditionally.

You have to adjust your game plan when your main offensive weapon is ailing.

Seahawks and Falcons should be fun.

Go Niners...

I have no issue with RG3 starting, that was the right call. He has been hurt and his production had been decreasing but it was good enough to beat Dallas. The issue is that by the third RG3 looked like a deer that got ran over. You see him in pain trying his hardest to survive but you know the right thing to do is end his misery. Shanny took too long to do it and it cost RG3 further injury. We would of probably lost with Kirk which is why RG3 stayed in there but we weren't going to win with the condition RG3 was in the first place.

And you remember how much flak Cutler took for that (still takes for that).

RG3 is way too competitive to say, "Naw, I'm good, Kirk can go in". As the coach of the team, Shanahan has the responsibility to do what's best for the team and for the player. If it gets to the point where Griffin isn't helping the team, Shanny has to take the ball out his hands and go to the backup.

Time will tell, of course, but based on the current evidence there just isn't anything there to get excited about.

That's true with just about any college coach going to the NFL. They're a blank slate more or less- could wind up being good or bad. So from that perspective, Marrone is better than Gailey or Jauron who had records as HCs in the NFL of not getting it done. Beyond that, you had coordinator types brought in who failed, like Mularkey and Gregg Williams, so bringing in a college guy with some NFL experience like Marrone is a change of pace at the very least.

If Buffalo was going for a college coach, I'm kind of glad it was Marrone since he does have NFL experience, which somebody like Chip Kelly doesn't have. So he likely has more connections that might help in trying to put his coaching staff together.

0.o Cool that they keep adding to it like the Stanley Cup. Did they name it after Captain Picard's tea?

Oh well, he will be coaching Robert Griffen next season after Washington fans settle down.

The blame is on both of them in my mind. RGIII wanted to go on, Shanahan let him. If he couldn't go on, take yourself out of the game. Lay down and don't come back in. RGIII has to be as responsible for his career, health, and team as Shanahan does imo. In regards to Cutler, there is really no comparison in terms of playing through an injury. The term was used loosely to mean taking yourself out of the game.

Five head is my last hope. For Godslay!

Welcome brother!

Thoughts on the RGIII thing: he'll be fine long term, just ask AP. Some HGH will fix that crap right up!

OTOH, Shanahan is an idiot for trying to win with a gimped QB when he had an alternative.
