I just volunteered to assist with pools for Final Round XVI.

As I was filling out the form, all I could think was "I've made a huuuuge mistake."

I respect your dedication, it's admirable. At the same time, that's like the perfect thought process right there. :lol

Thanks for the stream graphics help a while ago, btw. People are starting to pick up interest again due to the local weekly stream and gatherings we're running here in Colorado. :)

KOF has that lady with pendulous breasts.

(I think they stole a character from Soul Calibur/my DeviantART page)

AFAIK Fatal Fury 2 is older than either Soul Calibur or DeviantArt.

KOF design peaked in 98. 99-00 still had some good design, but it's not been as good after SNK became SNKP. Gameplay also took a hit- XIII may have been the post bankruptcy KOF, but it's nowhere near 98.

98 had no original characters since it just brought old characters back, so you might mean 97.
But since there was no Vanessa back then, the comment is clearly invalid.

Marvel 3 Ryu summons an actual hurricane with his kick.

He did it before back in Gem Fighter Mini-Mix IIRC.

I wonder if KoF returned to XI's tag system with the current graphical style if that might help to get the Marvel folks' attention...

K',Maxima, Vanessa, and Seth were good design concepts, though I hate Vanessa having Hellion (that's Rick's move), why I said 99-00 were good years also. 99-00 had some misses also like Jhun , Kula, and Hinako.

Fighting game series generally have to move forward to continue- and I think the current trend in Japan is finally away from half-minute combos, judging from the success of Persona and what Arc is doing with BBCP.

I wonder if its possible to pull it off in a real match.

Zero, Taskmaster, Chris is the only team in the game he was able to find to make it work on. Supposedly it's unique to these six characters. He has to have the right characters to do certain moves an exact number of times to take off the appropriate # of health, which he made memos of . . .

Yeah.

I'm trying to get into SSFIV (on PC) and I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time trying to play with a 360 gamepad....

I've got the basic combos down but it seems like I can't pull them off fast enough online.

So should I invest in a fightstick or keep practicing with the gamepad?

Also, what's generally better when using the 360 gamepad: the analog stick or dpad?

Characters like Angel, Shen, Duo Lon, friggin Oswald, Ash (he was really popular in Japan iirc) etc. were all introduced by SNKP and are all really great characters, full of personality and distinct play styles.

I'm really looking forward to the new characters they will introduce in XIV (for some reason I feel that the lead for the new saga will be female this time).

D-pad. as for stick/pad, it really is preference. Hitbox is also an option.

Also, on PC, it seems like some folks are using some sort of input cheat sometimes, judging from things they do, and the fact I can almost always catch them with perfectly timed/placed spirals. (most folks who use this sort of stuff play really dumb, so a good player will beat them if they recognize it. Kaillera old-school trainers helps to sniff these folks out, and I do beat them about 90% of the time with old man skills) You can also see it in the replays with some suspicious inputting.

Looks like SNKP has finally started to involve themselves with the fgc in Japan, posted by the Professor on Madman's Cafe:

Looks like the new year will be starting out with a bang for the KOF tournament scene in Japan, or at least what's left of it. Here's a lowdown from Dune of KCE.

SNKPlaymore and Famitsu's Enterbrain are officially cooperating with one of the first KOF13 tournaments of this year to be held in Japan. This Special Tournament will be held on Jan 14 at a venue in Nishinippori Versus. The registration details & page will be opened in 1-2 days so we'll probably get more details soon.

Rules for the tournament will be the same as another big KOF tournament, 'KCE Cup 5', which will be held on the previous day. Two teams from that tournament will be given seeding at this Special Tournament. (Rules: 2-on-2 team match, same characters can't be used, Alt characters are considered separate.)

This Special Tournament is said to feature some 'new ideas' to make it additionally entertaining. As usual it'll be streamed live on Nico. According to Dune, this Special Tournament will be "a step into a new direction of things". (By that, I assume SNKP is becoming more friendly towards the competitive scene that they seemed to care pretty much crap about.)

Coincedently, EVO champion MadKOF and his teammates are slated to hit Japan around the same date, so things should be pretty interesting.

Cool, thanks. I'll try to get used to playing with the dpad before I decide to buy a stick.

random thought: TWITCH should really work on an app for Samsung Smart TVs. i have a mid-range model (32" ES6100) and the video stream apps works flawlessly in HD (YT, DailyMotion, Ustream, TED, etc).

who can i talk with to make this happen?

Is there a Justin.tv app? That will work for Twitch too. It's what I use on my Roku to watch streams.

Imo, if you can get a stick first, then start out playing AE with one before dedicating time to a pad. This may be just me, but having an arcade stick really pushes you to make the most out of the investment and makes fighting games like AE much more enjoyable.

To be fair, mvc3 is hideous too.

What. MVC3 looks awesome. TvC just looks bad. Random flailing animations with like 5 frames, chunky models, irritating backgrounds and the worst special effects in a Capcom fighting game. MvC3 is really smoothly animated and the overall presentation is solid. SF4 is the one with no excuse. Those Vectorman shoulders.

Today's FGC forecast, fine and mostly sunny with a 95% chance of a late shitstorm.

What would cause the most drama?

Sfxt being in?
P4A being out?
MK being overlooked for dive kick?
Pasbr in or Melee in over brawl?

Ugh. SF4 is hideous and Super only made it worse. I want the old UI and announcer back. :(

Can't wait for all the whining about SFxTK being in even though people should be expecting it.

GB spitting that real talk. MvC3s style cohesiveness and presentation is only matched by MK9 and Persona IMO.

TvC is a jumbled mess of different lighting, levels of quality and styles. The only redeeming visual quality it has is rainbow effects.

Jesus christ. I'm whatever on people saying TvC is an ugly game, I personally love the way it looks but hey. People saying Brawl looks bad though? No FGC-gaf. No.

That's not an "FGC-Gaf" thing. I'm the only one who knows what's what on Brawl looking like crap.

Not a fan of UMVC3's main menu UI or feedback option to choose a selection of opponents. When I first saw MVC3 the first time, the contrast of color was crazy but grew to enjoy it.

My favorite part of Marvel's UI is how, after every ranked fight, it freezes the system for 10 seconds so it can save points that do nothing after your first 2 hours.

Brawl looking bad is just a Pandaism (his only one imo), that game's presentation was as flawless as it got in general, let alone on the fucking Wii of all things. MVC3 being ugly is a huge lol though, I'm sorry.

TvC is ok, but again Wii based game.

Edit: I miss Vanilla MVC3's UI and victory theme.

Even better is how the game gives you the chance to read the comic every goddam time on startup, which nobody has looked at more than once.
