E3 is much bigger since that. After the Wii hit every E3 has had all main stream media covering it. The MTV event was a forced thing to get attention. That no longer is the case a 2 hour prime time slot for free with the whole world watching and covering it. If they were to do a MTV type of show make much more sense to do it a month before launch to as a last sales pitch and launch into the major ad campaign.

Your making e3 bigger then it is. I never see anything about e3 outside of tech and video game sites. If they show it before, then they own the news cycle.

I really liked the Vita/NGP rollout of info.


At least they should announce it before GDC so they can just use GDC to get the techy stuff and engine tech demos out of the way and then finally let some developers release info on some games instead of having a giant clusterfuck of announcements at E3.

Publishers and developers are so damn egger to announce some next gen stuff that whoever announces there system first will at least get a advantage of having a decent selection of 3rd party games to show along side it.


I am sure if Microsoft pulls the trigger soon Sony will push plans forward though.

i think it was a factor, but if it was better in graphics than a 360 the extra price wouldve made

alot more sense. i looked at the launch lineup and reviews, then i looked at gears of war and

ya, wat sony idc about bluray or this other shit and multis still to this day performing worse

was embarassing imo. plus the controller of the ps3 same old shit, worse online etc.

if they just outdid the 360 in graphical tech i think it wouldve done better.

they had to get cocky and have their trojan horse for blu ray. hd dvd wouldve won if they dint i guess.

but me as a gaming consumer could give less of a shit.

Now you just went off a crazy tangent. Even if the PS3 had the graphical fidelity of a PC rig of today, it still would have failed because $599 is a high cost of entry into a closed system such as a console. Everything else you said is subjective.

I don't get this...smart phones/tablets are $399 - $599+ and people pay happily (I know phones get subsidized) but when PS3 was $499-$599 the whole press went ballistic on Sony even when it packed so much new tech.

Honestly I hope PS4 is at least $399+ cuz I don't want some shit tech that is just 2x-3x of current gen.

smartphones are mostly bought at discounts, and TABLETS aren't selling like hotcakes. Only ipads are. There's a difference. The only non-ipad tablets managing to sell anything worth noting at all are the cheap ones (nexus 7 for instance).

Console manufacturers....are not apple.

Some basic business economics for you. A company would never attempt to improve its fortunes by ceasing a highly profitable product line. Especially when it's a product that has the most opportunity for growth.

In the case of Sony and the Playstation, they would have sunk millions into R&D for the PS4, would have sunk millions in developing PS4 games, would have sunk millions in gearing up for manufacturer and distribution of the new console. They would have based their short and mid term financial forecasts on PS4 revenue.

There is literally zero chance that Sony will not release a PS4. Sony's CEO has made it clear that gaming is one the pillars that the future of Sony is based on. They need to reduce their product line and start producing product that people want. The PS4 (along with PSN and digital distribution in general) most certain will be one of, if not the primary product for Sony's main focus over the sort to mid term.

Kinda hyped for this. But honestly I have no idea what kind of games they would present alongside it that would interest me.

Persona 5, Versus XIII, FFX HD, Dragon's Crown, Tales of, etc. are all still a way off for PS3, so these devs won't already be moving to the PS4 =/.


The thought of PS2 HD emulation sounds really good though... but it won't happen.

I think a PS4 right now would be very foolish and probably sink them even faster than they're already sinking.

Here's the deal: Come either a May announcement or at the Sony Press Conference day for E3, IF I end up being colosally wrong and they DO announce and unveil a PS4, I will gladly admit I was wrong, and peacefully ask a Mod to close out my Gaf account. No argument, no alternate account shenanigans..just an honest straight up exit from Gaf. That's how strongly I'm standing by the predictions I made in the other thread. MS will do a set top box a la Apple TV with a heavy focus on multimedia initiatives, and I think Sony's plans probably changed significantly since the start of whatever they were planning in early 2011..to put it somewhat sensibly I guess. I feel I will be vindicated on one prediction or both. I have a few guesses what their announcement could be and I'll leave it at that. I am disappointed that it seems like I haven't fit in here as well as I'd hoped I might, so to give that deal to the community is fair. I DO have lots of knowledge about the industry, it would just be nice if I and others too could express our opinions without getting our butts ripped apart. Anyway, that's the deal. I honor my promises and if I'm wrong on this one I'll honor my word and exit Gaf.

Well that is a bit extreme, and I don't think they'll "fail" outright but hell in the videogame business more hardware companies fail than succeed and it's not like its some strange, rare thing for a console manufacturer to quit or turn in their cards. I'd not be surprised if they did fold, but I wouldn't bet any money on it happening.

Kinda hyped for this. But honestly I have no idea what kind of games they would present alongside it that would interest me.

Persona 5, Versus XIII, FFX HD, Dragon's Crown, Tales of, etc. are all still a way off for PS3, so these devs won't already be moving to the PS4 =/.


The thought of PS2 HD emulation sounds really good though... but it won't happen.

What really worries me is that PS3 backwards compatibility might not happen due to the games being programmed for Cell, which now seem to be moving away from. They really backed themselves into a corner with that.

I am not ready for the inevitable disappointment of next gen on consoles, despite preparing myself for a few years now.

The increased ram alone will make me happy, as long as the interface is competent. I just want an update to my Netflix/Hulu/movie box that could also play better looking games (I plug my comp into my TV regularly, but it's not the same).

I'll raise the ante and say that the next PlayStation's premium model will be $699.99 for BC and a game along with cable and a headset.

The normal model will retail for $400-$500 unless they aggressively lower the price to $350-$400. Going under $400 is hard for me to see based on the rumored specs and since the next PlayStation should have the power of a high end PC which usually retails for over $500 on video card alone.

I'm just thinking that if Microsoft launches with a $300-$400 console and Sony launches above them again, which one do you think that soccer moms and are going to buy for their kids and taking into account that not everyone will have/be willing to fork over that much money. I'm going to be getting both consoles regardless of the price, I'm just speaking in a reality based economical standpoint; not everyone is like Gaf.
