Looks absolutely fantastic visually. I hope the game will pump liters of adrenaline in my system. No WiiU though ? Prepare the paycheck Iwata.

I'd rather Iwata bankroll the Grasshopper Manufacture X Platinum Games project collaboration someone suggested earlier. :)

Actually, that's a fair point -- I guess the concept designer would be the "visionary," so to speak. At that point, I suppose it's more a matter of whether you limit the label "artist" to the one who conceptualizes the image, or if you also include the ones who have the mechanical skill to execute on that vision. Both require a certain insight and intuition to bring about the desired perspectives, proportions, etc.

Here it's important to make a philosophical distinction; The technician may or may not be an artist themselves (actually, it's irrelevant), but the task they are performing is purely technical, bringing an existing creative / artistic vision to its end result through skill and labour. The creative vision is not theirs, therefore they cannot claim it as their art.

This is a question that's been around since Worhol and reproduction.

Well-said and well-reasoned. :)

I'm both excited and disappointed (slightly): excited because hey, new Grasshopper game with Suda on board, disappointed because this looks a hell of a lot like NMH, and I really wanted something closer to killer7.

But I'll buy, play, and love it all the same.

I'm really hoping that this is, at bare minimum, a stylistic and thematic successor to Killer 7. Though I enjoyed No More Heroes and Shadows of the Damned, they are very hokey, and overly comedic in their approach.

For those of us who would prefer more of a likeness to Killer 7, I really hope we get it with this game.

Suda 51's coddling of the silly and otaku has been overdone and fails to take to advantage of his roots: rich, dark stories with a twisted sense of macabre that wouldn't feel out of place in a David Cronenberg or David Lynch film. Hopefully this game is more that than otaku fanservice.

I actually totally agree. Silver case and K7 is the Suda I want. (evidently, there are rumors swirling around that the Silver case rerelease is still happening, but has since moved to 3DS from DS)

Oh and I want more NMH/Loli/Lollipop Suda/Grasshopper and less Killer 7 Suda/Grasshopper. I like the direction they've taken and prefer the light-hearted and fun games they make now compared to what they used to make. I'll get drowned out and don't even really wanna discuss this but yea just one positive vote for what they've been doing lately as apposed to a hate and a call for them to return to what they used to do.

Need more information before getting hyped.

Is Suda writing & directing? Will this be closer to Silver Case/Killer7 or NMH/Lolipop Chainsaw? If the latter, then see you in another 3years Suda.

This seems like it is going to be a mix of the two. The otaku pandering in No More Heroes was at least done ironically.

This looks beautiful. On grasshopper: I skipped No More Heroes entirely. I there any reason to play the wii version over heroes paradise?

PS3 version had some longer load times or bugs, I think. Though they may have been fixed already with a patch.

Other than that, you might be able to find NMH1 and 2 on the Wii for the same price as the PS3 version. The sequel is most definitely worth playing as it improves on the original in almost every way.

Yeah... mechanically and graphically, it's way better.

But it's not anywhere near as interesting. I don't know who on GAF said it, but it's true: it seems like a (very good) direct-to-DVD sequel.

I agree, but if I had to judge from the screens alone, I think we're going to be disappointed.

Hopefully this will get a PC port and won't remain PS3/360.

Never been super interested in Grasshopper developed games but this looks pretty amazing. Wonder if the gameplay will be any good.

OK, this game looks freakin' amazing...kinda like a NMH meets Killer7 style.

My most anticipated game along with Project Zwei for this year.

This post doesn't make any sense to me. The game seems to be very visually inspired by sleazy Japanese action cinema of the 60-70sish, and trashy jumpsuits are one of those things you'd see. It's like saying "i dig the art style but i could do without a key visual element" -- what.

Looks like you and Neiteio already covered some of this in multiple posts, but you should know that my use of the word "art style" didn't in that particular instance include the way that the characters were dressed, but rather the visual style in which these characters were represented.

Alternatively, couldn't you imagine the same type of art style (use of colors, framing, proportions, forms, and so on) without having the female character in a zipped-down jumpsuit and bra? Thus, it would be entirely possible for me to state "I like the art style, but not the sexualized clothing"

Coddling?

He was outright making fun of them.

What you posted was from the main character's door. Did you miss the constant beheadings, the loaded violence with blood sprays everywhere, ridiculous love pairs (from semi-incest to a playgirl), etc? While it wasn't as dark as Killer 7, it wasn't a fluffy merry-go-round.

Educate yourself.

Looks great (apart from cripple leg animu cliche girl). It's probably as close as it ever gets to Killer 7 again, at least from the looks of it. Hopefully, storywise it follows that trend. Enough with these goofy GHM games, Killer7 is still their best game (that was released here, can't comment on SC).

NMH was a satire, and a good one at that.

Then GHM started to play the otaku pandering shit straight and they lost my interest ever since. Now my hype died down I'm wary that there's going to be more of that here too, hopefully it won't be too much.

I wonder if Kozaki is behind the designs again. They definitely look like his, and him and Suda seem to be buds given how often they work together.

^Liberation maiden is about a schoolgirl who flys a mech while wearing an Eva like plug suit. If you're wondering about the pandering, there you have it.

Which was also Kozaki, funnily enough lol

Mondo Zappa: 35-years-old, born in America, the main character. He is the man with the black suit and glasses which appeared in the first public artworks of the game. He regards executing as his job and carries out his work without fear. He is a man of taste and likes to seduce women. His favorite food is half-boiled egg

He does look somewhat like Archer

“It’s not trying to regress into the past. We’re trying to make a game that we’d only be able to make right now, at this point in time. The result is seen in our unique high-contrast shading seen in the graphics, as well as the high speed wrestling-like action

All the character designs in this game look cool as hell from what's been shown so far, and have a fair bit of quirk to them. Nothing wrong with the female designs either, they fit right in with the dark stylish vibe this game is going for. Any word on a trailer for this any time soon?

Yeah.

I get that the original was satire or whatever but that doesn't excuse everything after. Including the repackages of the first NMH and how they were marketed.

His studio is at where it is today by appealing to the same type of fan they were making fun of in NMH. Cue NMH2 and Lollipop Chainsaw

Screens look great! I'm glad in the end that it turned out to be this, it's much better than what my realistic expectations were aiming at.

Am I rememberign it wrong or does the Mondo name have something to do with Flower, Sun and Rain?

Yeah, you play as Sumio Mondo in FSR. Wonder if there's any connection.

Since there hasn't been a single Grasshopper PC title, and they barely sell on console to begin with, reallly...don't hold your breath.

To be fair, Liberation Maiden has a great booty.

Did Suda mention awhile back that he wanted to work on an IOS or touch screen tablet title or something? Not saying this will be it... unless its on WiiU *rimshot* but seriously didnt he say that at one point?

Not sure if this is worth a thread, or if this is even news, but it's news to me:

Deep Silver will publish Killer is Dead by @suda_51 @Grasshopper_EN in Europe this Summer! @XSEEDGames for US/Canada.

Before you ask: Killer is Dead WILL have Japanese and English audio on the disc. We figured the fans would want that :)

Yeah, XSEED was about to spill the beans for them. Good news, regardless (especially considering Deep Silver's recent acquisitions.
