Ni No Kuni Collector's Edition for EU/NA [failure level well beyond critical mass]

well, don't know if i'm lucky or what
i ordered 2 copies of WE , one for me and another for a friend
because i didn't want to lose it, i shipped it to my address in NY, which has tax, and i should have shipped them to my address in OH, almost $20 for taxes T__T

i wanted to change the address but didnt find the choice because of the basic and limited options at the site, couldn't even cancel them out to redo the order to the best shipping address , so i was afraid to have 4 WE edition that i'm forced to pay for without accepting my cancellation request for the oldest 2.

well, i mailed namco, hope they would help out.

anyways, i'm still having the chance to get my previous EU preorders from amazon UK , if anyone interested before i cancel them ^^

Got one of the last copies :)

120$ total, huge ammount, but i think it is worth it

First time i get such an expensive version though

Took the 3 day shipping, i suppose since it comes after 22ond, i can simply forget about it and it will come one day :)

I have to admit I'm kind of a sucker for books like this being in an LE. I'm not a huge Halo fan, but Reach's journal (combined with the timing of coming out on my birthday and Bungie's swan song) made me jump for that one. Similarly the book interested me with Ni No Kuni and I was afraid we'd miss out on it, and to be honest this is BARELY better than my worst fear there anyway. But at least we got it, and in a pretty nice package beyond just the book. I'd have liked if they had a multi tiered LE though, this very special, online store exclusive one for people who REALLY want to go all in, an $80 one with just the game and book that'd be at retailers, and the standard $60 version.

I rarely ever buy CEs and haven't bought a game in a while so I figured why the hell not, I love a good JRPG and this CE looked sweet.

Agree, a smaller edition would be very nice

Same happened to Witcher 2, i could not spend the ammount for the head statue and wish there was a version with just the art book, that was a big donwer that had that insider and the price so high

Generally i care for at books and huge manuals like Nino Kuni's

I hear ya the book is what sold it for me the other stuff is going to sit on the shelf in that box. The art prints are a nice bonus though I'll give them credit for that. I've been debating since the DS version came out weather to just get the book just to have it, its much like Hyrule Historia I imported. But this was a dream come true really I cancelled some upcoming figures and the MG Rising LE to get this.

GAF, I just found out that my bank changed my credit card number to head off potential fraud. So I currently have a pre-order on the Namco store that's tied to an invalid credit card number. I've heard the horror stories of order cancellations when a payment change is attempted.

Has anyone here successfully changed their payment method on the Namco store? If so, how? Phone numbers, email addresses, etc. Namco's site is kind of awful.

I'm terrified I'm not going to get my Wizard edition in the mail.

Okay listen....I ordered it at a time where I wasn't living where I currently am. I'm having my mail forwarded to me as a result. This always leads to things getting lost in the mail because the post office is inept (had a Club Nintendo reward get lost).

This is shipping to my old address which will attempt to be forwarded to here, so I have a horrible sinking feeling it's going to get lost in the mail. Which would be awful.

So I go to Bandai Namco's site and....well, they won't let me change my shipping address. It's not possible once and order has been placed.

Tell me......how is this being shipped? It would be GREAT if it were UPS or FedEx....

Which is absurd -- don't Miyazaki's movies make up most of the top five highest grossing films of all time in Japan? Or did I just make that up?
It's probably more like, Ghibli is a mainstay in Japan and far more commonplace, whereas in the West, those of us who like Ghibli have to beg for scraps. Maybe a Ghibli game just wasn't as big of a deal over there since Ghibli is so normalized. Plus Japan got two versions of this game. Sales for their DS version are higher than the North American PS3 version will probably be.

well, there's more of us in general ;)
Or the demographic overlap is different, maybe more that are seriously into games are also Ghibli fans. Or just that when it comes to games they either don't care about their involvement or are downright suspicious, sort of like with a famous author being attached to a game.

EDIT: And we may be looking at a situation similar to Epic Mickey, except in this case it'd be like if we never got the original and Epic Mickey 2 was a HUGE improvement while being a significantly different game.

It also helped that like for every one person with a PS3 in Japan at that time, there were like 10 DSes or whatever number it is.

I was able to order one earlier, and got my confirmation of my paypal payment! So glad they did a restock. What an awesome looking package.

Good points guys, I hadn't thought about any of those factors.

The idea that Ghibli stuff is such a mainstay over there that even a game in that style doesn't stick out as much really surprised me, but I can see how that could be true. I'm sure the demographic overlap in the West between fans of JRPGs and fans of Ghibli has some influence, too. Man, I hope the game does great in the rest of the world.

I snatched the CE when it went for pre-order. That unboxing video swayed my decision heavily. I hope the game turns out to be great, because that was the most money I ever put down onto a CE. Regardless of how the game turns out, at least I'll have an awesome new plushie to go alongside the Sackboy one I got with LBP2's CE. :)

Ahhhh~~~

From EgHeadFool@GameFAQs who canceled his order at PlayCanada after buying at ClubNamco....

BTW I cancelled with Play Canada. They refunded me without issue except they wouldn't give me the shipping cost back. Bye-bye 25 dollars :(

They also said the following which may or may not be a lie:

"Hi there, we understand that you pre-ordered Ni No Kuni from the Namco store as it was on sale for a few hours. Just so you know, we work closely with Namco and spoke over the phone with them. They told us there may be some cancellations as they oversold in less than 2 hours."

Hope no one here is affected if it is legitimate.

I literally refreshed on a lark before going to get coffee, figuring I'd take my chances if it wasn't available to pre-order then... and it was available. Still holding onto the GameStop pre-order just in case though: at worst they'll abandon the pre-order and give my money back as store credit to be spent on something else, in this case I'll throw it on FE.

Holy cow I was right to set my alarm this morning to order it up the second it opened. The sad part is it was probably a ton of folks exploiting this opportunity to resell it later.

Oh fuck. I ordered from Play Canada. Granted I was in the first 50-75 orders, but Christ I hope nothing happens to my order from them. :(

You mean you ordered from PlayCanada and canceled? If not, you should be fine assuming that this is even them being ~real~ with customers and not lying to them.

Yeah, I really doubt that Namco told a random retailer that they oversold Wizard Edition's today. Sounds like a ploy for them to try and keep someone from cancelling their pre-order with them.

No I still have my order placed from them. I actually misread it as PlayCanada might have to cancel orders, but that's not the case. Im still amazed they managed to get 150+ copies of the Wizard Editon secured. It sounds too good to be true, but they're a really high-rated ebay seller so hopefully nothing goes wrong.

Well, that explains how they could know! And with how that online store's set up it wouldn't surprise me, but hopefully it's only going to affect people who hit it in the last, say, 10 or 15 minutes, rather than an hour or longer.

For anyone who had preordered the Wizard's Edition months ago and had problems trying to update their credit card information for whatever reason like I did, there may be some hope. I emailed them yesterday to cancel my order as a formality (because cancelled or not, it seems like I won't be able to get the WE regardless) and they emailed me back this morning telling me to call customer service again because there might be a chance they can update it this time around.....I'm not going to because I refuse to deal with their shitty customer service reps ever again, and I don't trust them to be of any help but, who knows, maybe they're telling the truth. So the more optimistic people should give them a call and try to update their information once again. So, idlethreats and jaekwon15, I know you guys specifically had similar woes from when I posted last time. If you guys never solved the issue, maybe you guys can try again now. Best of luck.

Yep, they oversold. I thought it was suspicious that it was open for so long.

A lot of us here got in within the first few minutes so I assume they are safe. If it went past a hour then it might be cancelled. They really have no excuse if they knew how many were available. Also this is second hand information from a company who probably doesn't want a cancelled order, what are the chances that rep talked with someone from Namco Bandai specifically about this game in the last 24hrs?

Last night I spent almost three hours on the phone with the Namco store trying to get my payment info changed. (as I mentioned earlier, my credit car company changed my card number with no warning so my old order will certainly be denied)

I talked to several techs and supervisors and NO ONE can figure out how to transfer my existing pre-order into another order. I was told that my issue has been escalated and that I would receive a response within 24 to 72 business hours. ..which means that when they tell me nothing can be done, It will already be too late.

Digital River is the biggest trashpile on the internet. How on earth can you have a store that accepts pre-orders but does NOT allow you to change your payment method? These guys have been around for years, too!

Maybe it's because in Japan, it's just another anime studio (a good one, to be sure). In the west, they're animated films with the "Disney" label on them.

Ghibli is the creme de la creme of anime studios in Japan from a mainstream consumer perspective and their films are huge over there - in 2008 Ponyo was the highest grossing film of the year, earning twice as much as the number 2 film, and even their "lesser" works like From Up On Poppy Hill or Tales From Earthsea rank in the top 5 grossing films of the year of their release.

The game didn't sell so well in Japan for a number of reasons - the poor word-of-mouth of the DS version, competition at the time, whatever, I don't know. But there's absolutely no way Ghibli is "just another anime studio".
