Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch |OT|

I almost always wait for a price drop and never buy at the starting price. But I can see this game becoming hard to find. $60 is a lot though but it is right up my alley.

Then again, Fire Emblem and Etrian Odyssey are just around the corner. Too much!

I'm just peeved the Wizard book was only for the CE. That should have been the real preorder bonus of the game.

No offense, but I think expecting a 300 page book to be translated to English and made into a hardcover book to be offered for free is expecting a little too much. :(

If anything, I was the WE was more readily available than through Namco's website. I would feel a lot better about getting mine if it was offered via Amazon who delivers on time for me 99% of the time.

I've been trying to bring myself to accept the battle system in this game because it was the only thing that I couldn't enjoy at all.

But.... I know if I passed on this experience I will never ever forgive myself.

So the hell with the battle system, I'm getting this no matter what.

What if I found the battle system boring and couldn't enjoy it..... everything else in this game simply breathtaking <3

It'll be up on PSN on release day so it won't be that hard to find unless of course you're only interested in a retail copy then maybe.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Beware of this save-destroying bug in Ni no Kuni

Ni no Kuni has a rather inconvenient bug. At around 45 minutes into the game, players will encounter a wand quest. If you save/restore at the start of the quest, your file will be destroyed.

This isn’t an isolated bug, unfortunately. There are a few reports surfacing from press members with early copies noting the same problem. Hopefully Namco Bandai will issue a fix!

Ni no Kuni launches in North America this Tuesday. Be sure to keep this information in mind while playing.

Found THIS large image of the DS version of the game.

My question is, does anyone have photoshop skills and can get rid of the lettering while keeping the above area intact? A blank/black area up top where the lettering is would keep the image's sense of scope and I think that would make a great iphone/ipad lock screen, but I don't have enough skills to get rid of the lettering on top and still have it blend in with the rest of the image. I would really appreciate it!

:)

Ok so the demo has officially sold me on this game...it's actually more gorgeous playing it than looking at footage..which isn't something that happens a lot for me. I won't be there day 1 due to being busy but it's now on my must play lists.

The same here, but how well this kind of title does will determine future US releases of these kinds of titles. I'm casting my vote with my wallet.

I felt exactly like this until one day last week I played the demo again and it just clicked.

Agreed, that cover art is just ugly.

No taste whatsoever! How can you call that Ghibli artwork ugly? My god. Even if it's cluttered, it has so much more character and self-confidence than a logo on a white background.

I understand it MAY make sense for marketing reasons, but UGLY? You get out.

Anybody wish this was the cover art for English version?

NnK-AiOE_5-15.jpg

I really like the clump of characters, it gives that "bursting at the seams!" feeling that a great RPG gives out. That's one of the things I loved about multiple-disk releases in the PS1 days, too; the idea of 4 disk for one game just screamed "EPIC!", just like a character-packed cover does, to me.

The english cover is like a children's story book... which is nice, but with such an obviously Japanese name, I'd have liked to have seen some artwork. Something like "The Last Story" cover would have been much preferred.

This isn't the kind of game you hide the Anime heritage, which is normally what plain logos for Japanese games attempt. Making it look like one of Disney's Ghibli releases would have probably been a bit of marketing genius.

almost had a heart attack thinking my first order was D:

Are you guys going to play this is english or japanese?

English.

Too soon to say, honestly. For me it comes down to Persona 4, Xenoblade Chronicles, Valkyria Chronicles, and Ni no Kuni will likely be in that discussion.
This post is full of win! Top picks for RPG's this generation as well! VC actually almost made me tear up! Getting a WiiU just to play Xenoblade/Monster Hunter lol...great post

I never said the art itself was ugly but that it makes for an ugly video game cover. I am an absolute fan of Studio Ghibli artwork and I have the Wizard's Edition on order so I'm pretty sure I would be a fan if that's any indication.

If the US edition was going to have any sort of artwork though it would have been worlds better if it had the DS cover of the game. It shows the gorgeous style of the game but in a much more simplistic approach.

This doesn't compute, in my mind. If the art isn't ugly, then it's not an ugly cover. Feel free to argue that it's a poorly designed cover, but I will give no quarter beyond that.

The art itself isn't ugly but it makes for any ugly cover for the game. Just because a piece of artwork is good it does not mean it will work on everything it's used on.

I just fail to understand what is so "ugly" about it. Please, you're going to have to elaborate a bit more than that.

What I see is a cacophony of colours and character designs on a lavish background, with a pretty logo up top. Ugly? No. Cluttered? Maybe.

That much clutter makes for an ugly design in my eyes. The DS cover of the game is worlds better in that regard.

Honestly, the DS cover totally falls apart if you don't understand the "Another World" angle of the game. It emphasizes lonliness and mystery, which is great with the promise that you're going to a new, mysterious world... but as a companion to "Wrath of the White Witch", it makes no sense at all.

It would have been a great manual cover, sure, but as a piece of shelf art that speaks "RPG!"? Naaa.

If it was going to be like the DS cover, than the Steelbook would have been a much better take on that style.

I think the problem with the cover is that blu ray cases are just too small for that much detail. As a wall paper for my PS3, it would be awesome

I love that japanese cover. US/EU covers with just a big logo splashed on a white background are really getting dull.

It's not like I really care, i'm not going to spend days looking at the cover anyway.

Not to mention that some people who just wander into a game store and see the cover will automatically scroll past it. I've been in GS so many times and have picked up a game just because the cover looked interesting. I still remember picking up Deus Ex Human Revolution because the cover to me looked amazing, did I mention that I didn't even know about Deus Ex before purchasing it.

I'm guessing most people who see a blank white cover with words won't find it all that appealing. Even if the Jap cover doesn't look all that good, at least it gives you an impression of the game.

So I agree with you.

It's so hard for me to comment on whether or not I would be more likely to grab a game due to its cover since I usually know what games I'm going to buy before the cover is even revealed for something. :p

OMG can I please have this pic for mine as well? That looks fantastic!

Sure thing! I'll host it somewhere and link to it in a few mins. :)

Nah I prefer the English cover, it's more stylish, the cover of the Japanese one suits a poster more. Most people are buying online now anyway, so they will hear about the game from word of mouth or online websites.

Anyone else buying the The Legend Of Zelda: Hyrule Historia? it's the same situation, english one is actually better for once, beautiful green colour with gold text. The Japanese one looks more like a poster.

I disagree. Simple can be beautful too.

ninokuni-box-art.png

Even though it looks so simple, that is sexy as heck. Seriously if I'd never seen this game before and i saw this at the store, I would pick this up straight away out of curiosity.

I already have a friend who's picking up this game because of it's art alone. Now that's an accomplishment.

Not fast enough :( but then I don't really ever play jrpgs and I wanna play this because I liked the demo but if I'm that bad I might just pass

That's what i'm hoping for too. My Photoshop-fu ain't THAT strong.

Dumb question but I've never ordered online through GameStop, let alone pre-ordered, so; Do they ship the game on the release date? Or will it arrive by the release date?

Can you switch to easy mode mid game in here? I might just end up playing this on normal until I get the hang of it or just realize it's defeating me

I don't really like jrpgs aside from ff 9 and skies of Arcadia but this demo I really enjoyed after giving it some time. Art style helps immensely

You should be OK, most RPG's start slow, so you should be able to get the hang of everything, practice makes perfect.
