Virtue's Last Reward SPOILER Thread

I think he just shouted and then passed out in that one. That's what I remembered of it, anyway.

EDIT: Yeah, pretty much what SolarKnight said.

So Sigma shouting leads to a Game Over? Well that's odd. I played through this on the Vita in the span of a couple days, so of course some of the old ending details I don't remember exactly.

I'd like to play this again on 3DS when I get my XL. Has anyone played both versions of the game? Does anyone prefer the 3DS to the Vita version?

It's not the shouting, it's the shock. Just like how Akane attempting to hill him shocked Sigma enough to go back to the past, death is not really a requirement.

Yeah be he found Alice dead in other timelines and didn't have this shock. or was it Sigma first who found her by himself that caused this?

Would be interesting if This Alice shock sent him back in time in that timeline. haha.

Well, I guess it's like a combination of being the one to find the body and actually having had a chance to prevent that but couldn't that did it.

Another case of such shock marking the end of the line before another jump was Sigma waking up alone in the infirmary and finding his hand missing.

That was my first true WTF moment in this game. That was just. wow. Gave that creepy 999 feeling back a bit.

Thanks guys. :)

Alice didn't have the excuse of having gone insane before starting to kill people. The fact that she was still perfectly capable of rational thought, yet did something she knew well would kill Sigma, even while perfectly aware of the fact that he had saved her life and Quark's alike, made it that much easier to resent her.

Yeah well at least she didn't doom a man hopelessly in love with her to spend the rest of his life as a witting pawn in her vicious if well intentioned scheme to save the world.

PLUS, Alice winks at you. How cute is that?

Got the platinum riht now.

Anyone thinks that at the end what Akane told to Alice and Clover that there's a way to make the body, not only the soul, go back in time is totally nonsense?

Makes all the Sigma/Phi training to make the soul travel in time pointless to me... looks like just an excuse to make them appear in the third part...

I wonder if in the third part we're gonna save the wolrd... or just end missing an eye and two arms trying to save Phi...

I liked Alice because she behaved in the most believable manner under the circumstances.

Everyone else was oddly calm, except Dio of course.

Good points, especially on it making the other stuff appear pointless. It's why I'd be completely fine with those two just showing up at the end of part 3. Bring me some Snake back. ;3

Yeah, I think this is why I like Alice a lot too. My feelings towards Alice varied the most out of any character over the course of the game, from rage and hatred when she betrayed me, to guilt and shame when I betrayed her, to sympathy that she was trapped on the moon w/o a shirt on, and most of all, to understanding when she breaks down in the B. Garden and confesses how scared and sorry she is. The Nonary Game turns turns her into an ugly person, but she recognizes this and loathes it about herself. I can respect that. Fear brings out the worst in people.

uhm the alice betrayal is the one who felt more hypocrite than the others, when you betray her she get ultra-mad and treat you like shit, when you change route and she betrays you she's like "of course i was gonna choose betray, i don't know you. it's natural to choose betray"
but whatever, i don't dislike her anyway

Well, yeah, but Tenmyouji was pretty much the same so it's not really something exclusive to her. You ally, "why WOULDN'T I choose betray?", you betray "WTF guys I trusted you!" =___=

Yeah, Alice was probably the best written of the characters. I wish we'd gotten someone besides Clover back from 999 though. She's annoying and she's nuts and I don't feel there's anything interesting about her. At least, if there is its never properly expressed.

I've got a lot of questions, so feel free to answer just one or two. Numbered for your convenience:

1. Someone in this thread (I believe it was linkratos) said that, after studying mathematics, he found out that Sigma's name was very appropriate. Why is that?

EDIT: the post:
Studying late for calculus, just realized how perfect of a name Sigma is for him, very clever.

2. In the GAULEM bay, if you set up the radio you hear a small recording of someone saying something in japanese. Does anyone have a translation of this?

3. In K's ending, the door to the GAULEM bay is open, and the safe there has been opened, even though the team that went through that chromatic door went through the treatment facility, not the GAULEM bay. Is it ever explained what happened?

4. Is Alice actually All-Ice from 999 or not?

5. Can anyone link me to the fan Q&A Uchikoshi did? I can't find it on google.

I never hated Alice, but this is basically how I feel too. Similar to Lotus, she's the "human" character in the game. She doesn't have any experience with this types of situations, despite her job, and she acts realistically IMO. Human nature isn't always pretty or rational.

3. The GAULEM bay safe had K's key inside of it right? I don't quite remember but in K's ending doesn't Sigma unlock K's mask?

4. Some will say she is and some will say she's not. I think she is but the arguement in teh otehr direction is that she was a red herring from the last game before it was expected to have a sequal. When one was announced, it would be fun to throw in that red herring again, with this writer though, I feel like it is a strange occurance to put something in that has no bearing on story in some way.

That's the one. Sigma and K find that the GAULEM bay door is open while it shouldn't be, and K finds the key to his suit in the opened safe (without telling Sigma). When Sigma, K and Phi are passing out from soporil in K's ending, Sigma finds the key on K and opens his suit, revealing Kyle.

Snake is referenced a lot in cover ending/path. Santa is no where to be seen, i thought old junpei is their uncle/father at some point lol

Never though of that before, but the VLR OVA is only trying to mess with us making appear young Sigma playing the AB Game...

Also, how comes that no one asked what happened to Sigma's eye? Also, I understand that Sigma haven't seen his face in a mirror in all the game... but c'me on... haven't seen his old hands voting or moving dices.... that's nonsense.

Cybernetic arms-I'm guessing that's why they don't appear aged. The only mirror was in teh infirmary and it was really dirty. I can forgive him for not noticing at his reflection in the water in the Garden cos you only looked at teh water when the lights were off. I think his eye was hinted at by clover (when she told him that he looked like a computer). But I guess it is weird that no one asked any direct questions about it (maybe it was as normal as having glasses for that time - i mean they have cybernetic arms) The older voice that he would have had however.... I dunno.

Ok, I'm not a japanese expert, but the word "me" stands for both "eye" and "eyes", right?
People in the game frequently tell Sigma things regarding his "me".
They aren't direct things, but Dio says something like
"I donno if I can trust your eyes..."
which in Japanese may be singular... methinks...

As a pioneer and expert in computer engineering, cloning, and dying I think Dr. Klim could develop tech to alter his voice to Troy Baker. I mean he already is impersonating the Terminator.

Well, Troy Baker will have the world's greatest voice library samples next to Nolan North.

What do we know about the development of the next game? Any official word?

We know nothing, except the fact that Uchikoshi is planning to do it...
If we look at Japanese release dates, between the release of 999 and the announcement of VLR, 1 and a half year passed...
So, since VLR came out in Japan nearly one year ago, I suspect we might know something maybe this summer?

It had something to do with derivatives or integrals. I wish I could remember exactly, I was delirious mainly from studying and this game was stuck in my brain so I was probably making some symbolic connection.

Sigma notation (Σ) is used for calculating sums, so you could say it's appropriate given how he's compiling all the information from the alternate timelines.

The ending was fantastic, but I have to say it was too intelectual...as in my brain was engaged too much, that any emotion was pushed aside as my brain was trying to keep up.

But then again, I probably gained a few IQ points playing this game!
