The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Announced

It would be nice to have sailing optimized by the gamepad screen. Tap a button to instantly change wind direction, stuff like that. As much as I love the atmosphere and music, sailing was so tedious and cumbersome it almost killed the game for me.

well, that's pretty much the general opinion on most gaming boards. Quite a few people don't like WW because of the sailing/empty islands/triforce fetch quest/cut dungeons/easy difficulty, but it's a favorite of many. TTP is pretty much the most hated 3D Zelda game (unjustly so, SS is worse in many ways)

I disagree, I've never gotten that feeling from GAF that people hate Twilight Princess more than Wind Waker. Wind Waker is commonly thought of here as the worst non-portable Zelda game (not counting the non-Nintendo platforms of course).

Me, I thought Twilight Princess was a bit flawed, but still great. Wind Waker I found boring and very flawed at parts. Especially since the game really had a LOT of potential.

Oh wow, I hope those screenshots aren't what the game will look like, they've destroyed the look of the game!

Visuals aside, all I ask for is a hard mode of some kind. Oh and a few new dungeons, big ones. Look, that's the game's one REAL weak spot. Six dungeons, and the first two are TINY. Otherwise, hyped as as muuuuug cause this is my favorite Zelda game (dungeon thing aside).

Plus, the Wii U had a built-in Tingle Tuner, yo.

Twilight Princess is by far the most hated Zelda game and with very good reason. It makes you bored shitless

I think it's pretty obvious that this is not a finished product, and that the final version will likely look much different. They did say that they basically just tinkered with some editors and such and out came these screens, so I wouldn't be too surprised if the game looked much different/better at E3, or in motion. Is it realistic to hope for 60fps like OoT 3D? That'd be awesome.

Also, just to put it out there, I do kinda like the claymation look the game seems to currently have.

Was there any in motion media shown? The screens are probably very preliminary, the lighting is a very simple thing to change so I'm not worried. A lot of the textures are the same as the original whereas some look like they've been recreated or taken straight from the source. Or maybe I'm just seeing things and they don't plan to alter the textures or meshes at all.

Nope, just these screenshots which gives us more evidence that it's not the final visual style of the game and just the testing session they had.

It's not the visual style of the game, yet they showed it to us as an example of what the game would look like???

Wind Waker is one of the few Zelda games I haven't played, and while i'm sure it is a phenomenal game there's no more interest in me to go back to this series once again.

I'm sorry but i've played at least 10 of these freaking games, i'm just soooooo bored of the concept. I don't understand how you guys can keep returning to this series again and again and again. Even with nostalgia at some point don't you get sick of the same themes, the same dungeons, practically the same battle systems.... it goes on and on. This series is devoid of life. Any series would be after this many releases.

It just boggles my mind that anyone can ever muster up even a little interest for this series. In my mind each game is made for a new generation of children, I can't imagine they make these games for returning veterans.

I hope theres actually new stuff in the game and its just not a visual overhaul like OoT3D.

Hopefully they add the removed "dungeons, items, etc" that we're supposed to be in the original, I was disappointed that Ocarina of Time 3D didn't add anything else other than the Master Quest and visual upgrade, so Nintendo added everything they couldn't add to the original + the visual upgrade is what I need for sure.

What can I say. If it's fun I'm there.

Well, I appreciate that. I know the series is fundamentally fun, I just have a hard time understanding how people can return to it so many times when there isn't much effort to change the series (not that it should be changed, as I said, I can understand that they are making each game for a new generation of kids).

They've kinda gone overboard with bloom in the past...

Surely they'll realize the lighting looks like hot garbage before they ship the game. Before E3, even.

I'm hoping they take cues from OoT 3D with the inventory aspect of it, being able to choose your items with the game pad would be fantastic. Even having gyro controls and stuff would be nice, much more accurate than stick controls in my opinion.

Hmm don't fix what isn't broken but new ideas are always welcomed.

Late, but:
I don't get it. How exactly does that new style look anywhere remotely like a Pixar flick?

It's mainly in the lighting. The level of detail (owing to using GC assets, another reason to not change the lighting unless you change those) is obviously in entirely different tiers, part of why trying for the kind of look they are doing in those WW HD screenshots should probably be saved for a new Zelda entirely as that's easier to justify building the appropriate assets for.

I'll buy it anyway (cause my brother took my copy of WW) but if it did include the extra levels and stuff that would be awesome.

I didn't mind it in OoT cause its sauce material isn't that colourful and they probably wanted a softer more child friendly approach expecially for the handheld one. But WW doesn't need to change, its already colourful, that bloom just ruins it, it should be flatter sharper crisper colours not bloom bloom WOOOM.
