It's just the base game, yes.

Mhmm.
That reminds me, say I bought a game bundle that came with all its DLC, but I have the base game already, in this case the game would go to my inventory for gifting right? What games don't follow this procedure/concept?

You're allowed to but the Halo games (at least up to 3, haven't played enough of ODST, Reach or 4) are pretty great "wide area" shooters.
So it's like Serious Sam, but with Mr. Reach instead of Sam Stone? Maybe I should properly play them if these rumors are true. Sale material right there.

Halo 3, graphics issues on the 360 aside, is one of my favorites, the set pieces, the atmosphere, just thinking about it with PC graphics options makes me drool, I personaly don't see it happening but who knows, it's got all the life out of 360 that it's going to get minus a remake, I say go for it, MS is protective of their IP's, but why not, Halo, Viva Pinata, Crackdown, maybe Forza on Steam, I'd be all over that and I don't think I would be the only one, far from it

You don't receive giftable spares unless explicitly stated on the product page (e.g. Tomb Raider and its free copy of Guardian of the Light) or you happen to purchase a particular bundle as noted here.

SO could we also get the Rise of Nations games?

All that can be said for certain is that it's a possibility.

Some documents we got from the Relic sale confirmed that SEGA has the rights to the game but they still need the license from Games Workshop to sell it from what I understand.
I thought that was fantasy warhammer, a separate thing from warhammer 20k (I don't know shit about what these are, just something I heard)

I just got done building a gaming rig this weekend after planning to do so for a long time (been rocking only notebooks for the past few years). It's actually a fun experience to get a PC together by yourself and having it all work perfectly. Bailing out of console gaming for now, got the computer hooked to a 47" hdtv + 22" monitor for comfy couch and superior experience. Already have a huge wishlist on Steam and bought some games on sale, let dat backlog begin...

Bought Sleeping Dogs and most of the DLC during the 75% off sale. Haven't got too far yet as I love to stop and do random things in open world games, but it's very fun and looks great. Tried to play it with mouse and keyboard and it felt horrid, so I plugged in my generic controller but the button placement was all over the place. The game wouldn't let me configure the controller buttons, just the keyboard keys (quite a bit of control issues in this port from what I gathered from the official forums). Thankfully I managed to make it work after some tweaking with x360ce and it's been a smooth sail after that.

You should absolutely consider getting hold of a 360 pad.

Unless you are hardcore into JRPGs and Fighting games. Though, PC may cure you of the former, especially if you never played the classics of PC RPGs, and future looks brighter for the latter on PC.

I highly recommend looking at games you are interested in and considering a 360 controller if they use it. Instant compatibility is just so, so worth it. Plus, it's hella comfy. Also, if you want to get into shmups and fighters but don't want to shell out $100+ for a quality arcade stick, I would highly recommend this:

http://www.pdp.com/p-1011-versus-controller-for-xbox-360.aspx

The thumb joystick thing takes a bit of getting used to, but since it is microswitches it is extremely precise once you have a feel for it. It is amazing. Xpadder is needed for a lot of games, but I think you can still get the old version for free (you don't need the new version for an all digital controller)

Nah, with John Halo. Eh kills aliens and doesnt afraid of anything.

They got the license for Warhammer Fantasy earlier than the Relic acquisition for Creative Assembly to work on a game.

The Warhammer 40k (not 20k rofl) license is separate and reverted (or will revert) from THQ back to Games Workshop. GW has already confirmed that they want to continue working on the IP with Relic and by extension SEGA.

Yeah I plan to, they aren't really cheap where I live though (Brazil), and I can buy 3 of the generic ones for the price of a wired 360 controller over here. I actually have two wireless 360 pads from my Xbox 360 but no PC receiver, which alone is also more expensive than buying a generic wired pad. It's not like getting a couple of adapters would make me go broke, but I spent a lot in January and needed at least 1 usb pad real quick so I got a cheap one as a stopgap.

Thanks for the suggestions, Dice. I'm open to checking all the available genres to see what clicks, including shmups and fighters, both of which I didn't have a chance to play on consoles this gen. I haven't played any of the PC RPGs classics either and that will certainly be something I'll also be looking into.

Is that too expensive? I don't know how they are in sending to Brazil but it's the cheapest wireless receiver you'll find.

Halo 3 to Steam would be an auto buy pending 's 15 or under. I had a blast playing that with a friend years back.

Listen to this man. I was a huge hater of using gamepads on a PC (well, "hate" is a strong word, let's just say I always dismissed them), but getting a 360 controller was a one-way trip. Driver: San Francisco, Bit.Trip Runner, Costume Quest, Psychonauts, all of these (and several more I don't remember right now) feel much better with a gamepad than KB+M.

Haha, just like Metroid and his robot space suit.

No, Halo is nothing like Serious Sam in any way shape or form.
I know. Halo is a robot and Serious Sam is a huge minigun with a small dude attached to its trigger.

That's very cheap, here I usually find it ranging from 35 to 50 dollars from reputable private sellers, and from what I searched most stores don't even offer it separately. Thanks for this link, free shipping is inviting and since I'm not in a rush for now I might as well import it instead of buying locally.

edit: lol for some reason I was thinking I'd need one of those for each pad but it's possible to hook up to 4 of them with a single receiver. Much better.

I definitely feel it's a better fit for a lot of the third person action games, even more if it's a port from consoles.

Microsoft really didn't think about PC gaming on Windows 8 did they? or are they just really focused on tablet/mobile gaming for PC instead?

I don't blame them if it's the latter.

I think MS never value past software. Now seeing that old software makes money everybody flocks to Steam and GOG. I wouldn't be surprised f MS dumps digitalriver and use Steam for Office and other software too.

Missed the crazy weekend of all those Steam registry news. I'd probably double dip on the Halo's. Co-op still remains a good time. KOF would be so awesome as well, would love to check that out.

Just two bits of information:

You can't buy an official Microsoft Wireless Receiver by itself anymore. They're only available on "Wireless PC Game Controller" packs from Microsoft, which comes with one controller and one receiver.

Those adapters are not Official Microsoft Ones, but don't be afraid: They're exactly the same as the official ones. On top of that, the official ones are badly made and blow a fuse every now and then, turning them into paperweight (until you bypass that fuse, then they work like new).

The only minor problem you might run into is that Windows won't identify them automatically as a 360 wireless receiver (aka, they won't download the driver automatically). However, they come with a CD that has the driver in it and, if you download the official drivers and force installation of them on the "unknown device" that this receiver will be identified as, it'll work.

So they're just as good as the official ones. I've been using one for the past 2 years.

Thanks for the info, that explains why I couldn't find them separately through more official means. I'm currently in a weird spot regarding PC gaming, I've been away for too long so I'm informed about some things while having almost no idea about others, so thanks everyone for being so helpful in this thread.

DON'T BUY A GENERIC 360 CONTROLLER!

As someone who had one, I can tell you they are shit. The triggers WILL break, and you won't be able to properly play racing games that use them as gas/brake pedals. Also, the sticks have awful sensitivity, which sucks when controlling the camera on a 3rd person game (I guess it'll suck too when aiming on a FPS, but I never play those with a gamepad).

Trust me, I too had to buy a generic pad because I couldn't find an original one here in Argentina, and at first it worked fine. But soon the triggers started failing, and I was barely able to finish Driver: San Francisco (had to press it very hard, trigger to the metal, and hope the car doesn't decide to randomly stop accelerating). Some time later I found a legit pad on a store (wired), and it wasn't THAT much more expensive compared to the generic, so I instabuyed it. Without exaggerating, the difference was night and day. Triggers work like they should, sticks no longer have a terrible dead-zone and sensitivity, bumpers don't sound like tiny explosions, and the controller itself feels much better constructed. It's worth investing a little more to get something that is a LOT better.

Also, be aware that the 360 controller transmits at 2,4 Ghz , which is the same frequency as regular WiFi (and Logitech's G930 wireless headset as well).

I've had some signal drops on some extreme cases, so I wouldn't put the receiver next to a router if there's a lot of WiFi traffic on your house.

Yeah, what's up with the limited availability of the original wired 360 controllers? There's only the $20 fake ones here too. Which is why I bought a Logitech F710, but it's not as durable as a 360 controller (the right trigger's gone haywire after around 6 months)

I didn't buy one of the generic 360 pads but I did get a generic "dual shock" controller which is pretty much just as fake, it's doable for the price as a stopgap but evidently a far cry from the responsiveness and durability of an original 360 pad. The original wireless controllers I have from my 360 are still good as new aside from a bit of wear on top of the sticks of one of them so hopefully I'll have no issues using them with the receiver, and the extra generic pads can still make themselves useful for the odd 4 player game like Castle Crashers when I have people over.

Good to know, thankfully the router is on the other side of the room so I don't think it will be a problem.

Yes, keep it as an extra pad, that's what I did with mine. Just don't use it if you can avoid it.

That said, my generic 360 pad isn't as bad as my GameCube one. Now that's a complete and utter piece of shit, whose problems literally prevented me from completing Luigi's Mansion: the L trigger started failing, and is detected as R, unless I plug the controller in with R pressed all the way down. Then L works properly, but I can't use R at all. I found out that it only happens on games that use the triggers in analog mode, so I can't play that game or Rogue Squadron 3, while I was able to beat Paper Mario: TTYD without any problems.

Fuck generic controllers, they are cheap (and not that much) for a reason.

I have no idea. I searched high and low but couldn't find one, so I had to settle for the generic one. 2 or 3 months later I saw a bunch of original gamepads on a computer store, and then I started seeing them on several other stores. Maybe they were on hold at customs, and the government finally released them?

Could somone list all or what EA games are on sale on GMG? The EA sales page doesn't open for me =/

Alice $9.99
BF3 PE: $59.99
Bulletstorm: $4.99
Burnout PUB: $9.99
C&C RE3: $9.99
Crysis 2: ME: $9.99
Fifa 13: $15.99

Just on the front- some aren't great deals. Sims 3/Sim City 4. These have gone for cheaper elsewhere, but some are worth it I figure.

If you're anticipating Halo 3, I'd suggest bracing for a Windows 8 requirement. W8 doesn't exactly have the greatest reputation amongst the hardcore, so it'd be classic MS to try and sway some folks over this way.

Looking forward to Total War: Caveman!

Heck yeah. Hopefully we can have some good old-fashioned Caveman vs Neanderthal genocide.

So with Dyad showing up ... that reg list seems more and more plausible!

The dev just confirmed Dyad is coming in March on the other thread. So the "truly weird" appears to becoming more and more plausible!

Let's not forget Bit.Trip FLUX and FATE are also in the registry...
