MLB '12-'13 OffSeason OT: Magic is the New Market Inefficiency

Supposedly Hanley Ramirez has been playing Winter Ball the entire time with an injured shoulder. Enjoy that this season, Dodgers gaf.

Mod should make the next ot a poll with all possible condiments.

There can only be one.

That will put Timedog Vs. Blame Space to shame. A GAF civil war will finally erupt. Why do you wish such carnage upon us?

That's why I use both ketchup and mustard. Dem shit's deliciousssssss.

Maybe if I read this anthropology textbook long enough, I'll look out the window and see a bright April morning.

No suffering at all. Just a bit of a 'meh' feeling.

I (loosely) follow other sports to fill in the time between the last pitch of the World Series and the first pitch of the new season.

Fifty-six days to go!

As of today, the Mets are still interested in signing free-agent OF Michael Bourn. Still, my sense from talking to people is that Sandy Alderson and Boras already have a rough idea for what could get a deal done, which includes opt-outs, options, etc. However, Boras is almost certainly working to reel in another team, most likely the Mariners, maybe the Yankees, maybe the Rangers.

In either case, Alderson refuses to sign Bourn if he’s required to give up a first-round draft pick as compensation, which is how the rule currently stands. The way I understand it, the Mets think MLB will wave that rule, and instead force them to give up a second-round pick, if Alderson ever makes a formal request. However, MLB will not make an official ruling until Bourn, Boras and Alderson have an actual deal agreed to in principal. This makes sense, because I’m sure MLB and the MLBPA do not want to weigh in on the situation (and set a precedent) if Bourn is going to sign some place else.

So, where do things stand? I think MLB is waiting on Alderson, who is waiting on Boras, who is probably waiting on other teams who had interest in Bourn… and we’re waiting on all of them.
Stunningly Bourn might just sign with the Mets... probably not though.

Keith Law org ranking are out and the Brewers aren't last!!

Suck it Angels!
I think I'm going to have to get an MiLB.tv subscription this year. It's going to be a lot more fun than watching Correia throw batting practice every fifth day!

Cards #1 in the Farm system? Better match it with #1 in the post season this year.

Brandon Webb has announced his retirement at age 33. He finishes with 87 career victories and 1,065 strikeouts over 7 seasons with the Diamondbacks.

After battling numerous shoulder injuries that have kept him off a MLB mound since 2009, Webb finally decided to throw in the towel and retire.

Webb was drafted in the 8th round (249th overall) by the Diamondbacks in the 2000 MLB Draft.

His best season statistically came in 2007. Webb went 18-10 with a 3.01 ERA with 194 strikeouts. It was also the season with his heaviest workload, pitching 249.1 innings (236.1 regular season innings, 13 postseason innings). fWAR has him at a 6.9 WAR for 2007. In 2008, he led the NL with 22 wins.

Webb won the 2006 NL Cy Young Award. He came in second in 2007 and 2008, behind Jake Peavy (Padres) and Tim Lincecum (Giants), respectively. He was a three-time All-Star and participated in one postseason with the Diamondbacks in 2007. He also came in third in NL Rookie of the Year voting in 2003, finishing behind winner Dontrelle Willis (Marlins) and first-runner-up Scott Podsednik (Brewers).

After putting together an impressive resume that seemed destined to gain Webb a legendary career and a very rich contract, Webb made his first start of the 2009 season. He was battered by the Rockies, giving up six runs in four innings. He left the game with right shoulder bursitis. Webb, who had pitched over 200 innings for five consecutive seasons, never stepped on a MLB mound again due to continuous shoulder issues after having two rotator cuff surgeries.

Baseball-Reference estimates Webb made a total of $31.55 million over his career.

Took him long enough. I loved the guy when he was pitching, but man he sure dragged this thing out way longer than it needed to go. We all knew he was never coming back.

That sinker was the stuff of legends though.

Astros are determined to be the first team to ever have 3 straight #1 overall picks.

And I feel bad for defending Neal Huntington. He quite obviously does not have a coherent plan.
