Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

It is funded by Nintendo, they even showed the new trailer in their first-party Nintendo Direct. Publishing can be beneficial for Nintendo even if it is not an exclusive game, but Inaba explicitly stated the game wouldn't be possible without Nintendo.
Bayonetta 2: Sigma, on the other hand...

It makes too much sense to release it multiplatform minus some kind of big fat moneyhat.

And you really need to release multiplatforms at the same time to maximize marketing dollars, mindshare, and to avoid that 'oh it's an old game' stigma.

Can't fault Ubi for anything here.

Not only that but Ubisoft avoids individual sales for their games when it comes to numbers. "Number one in all platforms" looks way better than individual releases.

Reposting.

So who owns the Wonderful 101 IP?

Does Nintendo have a claim to Bayonetta 2 in the same way they do Goldeneye 64 and that's why that game can never be rereleased about Nintendo giving the okay?

Is the countdown now on for Lego City Undercover? After all NG3:RE was published by Nintendo too.

This is perhaps part, perhaps a small part, of why some Nintendo hardware owners stick to purely Nintendo games. To avoid frustration and disappointment when stuff like this happens.

I believe there is more going on with Lego City than just publishing, I recall hearing that Nintendo actually funded development, but I cant find a quote at the moment.

Not expecting a Rayman or even Ubisoft game to be ported to every platform under the sun is silly but the fact that it's being delayed by six months, including the Wii U version, is a fucking travesty.

Origins was a good game and I looked forward to Legends if only for being the perfect stopgap within Wii U's incredibly depressing first quarter but with GTA V and a potential surge of a bunch of more interesting games that come out during that period I have little to no reason to even care about getting it at full price on launch anymore. Ridiculous.

I understand the frustration some might have about this, but I never understood why it was announced as exclusive in the first place, this is ubisoft were talking about.

Wii-U owners will shun the title out of spite, PS3 / 360 owners will buy it as it's an unexpected surprise
Hardly unexpected. It will have been known about for 7+ months. That's about as long as we've known about the Wii U version until now.

What the fuck? It's cool releasing it on other systems, why the hell are they delaying it?

It makes no sense. The amount of people who are 360/PS3 owners who also have a WiiU won't be so great as to affect sales on either of those consoles much. Why not just make a "director's cut" version with extra content for those ones? The WiiU version has exclsuive ways to control the levels so it's not like it would take much away from that version.

next stop: Bayonetta 2

LOL At least that would make a lot more sense.

The date it's landed on puts it in direct competition with GTA V. How is that beneficial to Ubisoft? They're literally sending this game out to die. That's the upsetting part.

Rayman Origins sold like 50k copies on those systems. The amount of money they're going to make on this port is less than the amount they're losing by delaying the Wii U version 7 months.

Do I believe you or do I believe Ubisoft who claimed it cleared a million+ total across PS3 and 360?

Don't worry about it. Most people here are:

1) Backseat economists who genuinely believe they know what's better for x company than the people who are actually paid to keep its lights on, or

2) People who want to ignore that the Wii U is not an attractive place for third parties right now, and that Nintendo needs more time to make the platform more attractive. By the time RL releases, there will have been more 1st party software available, E3 will have had the chance to hype people up for new software, and there will have been much more time for people to actually buy the system.

So because origins didn't do we'll, they should stop targeting the biggest install bases?
Wtf?

I keep hearing this over and over again. What does it even mean? How, tell me how? If you don't work in tandem with console manufacturers - the ones you are develping games for so that you can sell them on their systems -, nothing will happen. Just release your finished game that got more than enough publicity and spotlight in the last few month! What marketing do you need? It's already gotten a lot of pubicity!
And if it's a good game, enough people will buy it, especially when you release it during a time of NO COMPETITION. Good games will automatically drive hardware sales as well. Waiting for an install-base to magically grow is nonsense!

i think a lot of those sales are budget $20 units? from what i remember, back before heavy price drops the game sold overwhelmingly on the Wii. i could be wrong, though.

London, UK - February 7th, 2013 - Today, Ubisoft announced that its forthcoming title Rayman Legends, already announced for the Wii UTM system from Nintendo, will also be released on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. All versions will now hit shelves in early September 2013.

Rayman Legends was originally billed as a Wii U exclusive, but it’s now coming to PS3 and Xbox 360, Ubisoft has confirmed.

In a statement sent to VG247, Ubisoft confirmed the game would hit both formats at some point in September. Developer of the Wii U version Ubisoft Montpellier is also creating the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions.

All give off conflicting information. Has it explicitly been said that the Wii U version has been delayed till September? The press report says all versions, the image just says Xbox and PS3, and the quote says both formats (Xbox and PS3).

I might be grasping at straws here, who can blame me, but I think we need clarification.

As expected, Wii U becoming another Nintendo console for Nintendo games only.

Yeah, I'm going to continue to be surprised by people who didn't see this coming. It's just how Nintendo consoles are...and that's fine by me because Nintendo keeps releasing great games that justify the platform on their own.

Yes, in the conference call it was pretty much confirmed that there won't be a Rayman Legends before September. It's now a FY 2014 game.

It's called smart PR without burning bridges.

I laughed reading this. Thats what first adopters get. Crap launch and crap support including bugs everywhere, and some still threw their money down like sheep.

Companies never learn until consumers stop bailing them out for mediocrity. Maybe a completely barren first 7, 8 months of the year will wake a few up next time.

Ah! I was wondering when you would show up!

I wonder how much better a chance Ubisoft thinks it will have against Wii U's, 360's and PS3's Fall heavy hitters instead of Wii U's current barren wasteland. I was hoping it would get a bump like Fire Emblem Awakening did just from lack of competition.

September was an AWFUL choice to release this game multiplat. Bring it in August or October but for god's sake releasing it the same month as GTA V AND Wind Waker HD? Who's calling the shots at Ubisoft?

9/10 360/PS3 owners will be buying GTAV instead of Rayman.

9/10 Wii U owners will be buying Wind Waker HD instead of Rayman.

Rayman Legends: Dead on Arrival.

Wow what an "interesting" kick in the nuts this turned out to be. I doubt I would have bought the game when it should have released but I feel for the people who fully intended to. So close so close so close!!!....whooosh it's gone. See ya at the end of the year ol' friend! Sheesh :/

Wii U version canned, the only explanation that makes sense.

how much did origins again? 1 million combined on all platforms?

I think the much better business would be release the game on WiiU now, when there is a game drought. The awesomeness of the game is in the WiiU owners mind (Demo on the E-Shop, Demo in the In store Demo Units) and I'm confident it could have sold good numbers on the WiiU until the other versions release in September. I mean, the game must have gone gold already on the WiiU.

But now, they will release in in the same month as GTAV on the PS360 and mybe even only a month before a new 3D Mario or Mario Kart on WiiU? Why send the game to die on 3 platforms Ubisoft instead of grabbing some good sales on a single one first?

So in conclusion: Going multiplatform is the right business decision, the WiiU delay not so much...

Yeah, I'm going to continue to be surprised by people who didn't see this coming. It's just how Nintendo consoles are...and that's fine by me because Nintendo keeps releasing great games that justify the platform on their own.

That's not fine by me. Nintendo doesn't release enough games on their own for that to be worth it. If Platinum moves on and Bayonetta 2 somehow does see release on another system, there will literally be nothing of interest to me on the Wii U. I have a 3DS for Nintendo's endless iterations of Mario, Mario Kart, and Zelda already.

What other Wii U titles are potential games to go multiplat?

Out of curiosity and so I'm not shocked when/if future exclusives go multi.

They do, and I am looking forward to the new 3D Mario game, but for a console it is not enough and I would expect looong game drafts for this console in the future.
