Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

Ubisoft just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about French culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in France, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the french public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Rayman Legends for any system, nor will they purchase any of Ubisoft's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Ubisoft has alienated an entire market with this move.

Ubisoft, publicly apologize and launch Rayman Legends in three weeks time for the Wii U, or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Dear Ubisoft,

I was looking forward to Rayman Legends - a game which seemed to be a perfect fit to Nintendo's new console, the Wii U. I loved the demo and wanted to buy the game on its release day end of February. That situation changed today.

The game is no longer exclusive to Wii U? Not really surprising. A finished game is postponed by 7 months? Why? The business scenario is not compelling enough? The Wii U sold in its first two months than PS360 did back then. How about postponing all your PS720 games until the fan base is 10M+?

Guess what people will do in September! They will play GTA V and other AAA titles and / or they will save their money for upcoming games and systems. Rayman Legends will bomb and from today onwards I'm looking forward to it. Rayman is a great game and I will buy it - but not on day 1 anymore. I will buy it one month later for half the price and 2nd hand.

Ubisoft, go and fuck yourself.

Yours sincerely,
a Wii U owner

Thanks for typing out my feelings and future actions. Non exclusivity is a non issue. 7 month delay after letting us sample the goods and so close to release? Fuck off!

I think this is more Nintendo than Ubisoft. They never really liked Rayman. They don't heavily support games that compete with their first party offerings.

but wasnt Rayman the only game featured in their demo stations? And one of the first games to recieve a demo on the system That sound like the opposite to me.

My kids and I just played the demo for the first time last night with a lot of excitement for the full game. They'll be disappointed. Fuck you, Ubisoft.

Help me out here, is this sincere, or is it satire?

Do they really use family members of employees as playtesters? Is this a common practice?

Microsoft does it quite a bit. They're obviously not the sole test group for the project, but it's not unusual for companies to have internal beta tests.

Is this one satire too? It's getting hard to tell who the crackpots are and who are just mocking the crackpots.

It didn't though, did it?

Afair it was in the Top 5 best selling games for Wii U since launch, or am I mistaken?
Also, why would Ubisoft consider a sequel if it sold like shit?
And why would they compare a hardcore zombie game on a Nintendo system with a family-friendly 2D platform game?

Well I did forget they were publishing the game in Japan, but I honestly don't see why people would care. As much as people on this board care about Rayman, the game is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things at all. I never saw the game selling more than 300-400k at most. Also Ubisoft doesn't owe Nintendo anthing so I don't see why they would make up for something.

Edit: It's somewhat disappointing that Ubisoft is delaying the game, but peopel not buying out of spite should be blaming Nintendo for creating a platform in this situation. 3rd party games are selling miserably and the platform is on a horrendous sales track. It sucks for the delay, but Ubisoft probably wanted to do a big marketing camapaign 2x

The Wii U's first two months sales were equivilant to the amount the 360 and PS3 shipped during their first two months. Why do people keep on saying that it is doing badly? It's doing good, not amazing, but not bad by any sense of the word

Rayman in the Nintendo Directs? in the Demo Units? Ubisoft was allowed to give a live demo of the game a day before the Nintendo conference with the WiiU games blowout?

Sorry, but Nintendo nowhere treated the game bad, it was the most pushed third party game by them besides ZombiU

Why do people think releasing on all three platforms in the fall will mean less sales? GTA? Sure, there will be some overlap, but a colourful cartoon platformer with French sensibilities vs a power fantasy open world realistic crime game? I'm guessing they are different enough to find their own audiences. Pissed Nintendo fans? Grudge holders vs 140 000 000 potential new customers...

Lets face it, Ubi made this move because their projections for the wii u are grim and the two screen play thing isn't catching on like motion gaming, as well as the fact that 3rd party games are selling like ass.

The wii u isn't dead or anything, but it is looking more and more like a niche game system for Nintendo fans only.

And being mad at Ubi isn't warranted. They put out Zombi U and most likely had every intention of following through with Rayman, if the sales weren't so grim. They did more for Wii U than any other 3rd party.

Reggie: Mr. Iwata-san, I need to speak with you.

Iwata: ...

Reggie: Mr. Iwata, it's important. *taps him on the shoulder*

Iwata: *takes off headphones* What is it Reggie-san ? I'm listening to "So Happy Together" by The Turtles.

Reggie: We just heard the news that Rayman Legends is no longer a Wii U exclusive.

Iwata: So? Didn't we kind of expect that to happen ?

Reggie: Sir, it's worse than that.

Iwata: What do you mean ?

Reggie: Ubisoft has delayed the Wii U version to Fall.

Iwata: *Puts headphones back on*

Reggie: Iwata-san, what are you listening to now ?

Iwata: *iPod reads "Everybody Hurts" by REM*

Thread is going to need a health warning soon. Bonus points to the people that won't be buying it out of spite now. Guess you didn't really want to play that game too much, huh?

Carefull, being so smug might leave permanent marks.

I seem to remember an epic post / thread on GAF a while back with that wording.

GL with that.

In part this is excellent news because more people will be able to play this game, but on the other hand it's shitty news because the game was fucking delayed. I hope that at least it wasn't only because it's releasing on other platforms.

Hopefully it comes to PC as well. Glad more people get a chance to play this game at the end of the day.

Me too. Rayman Orgins PC was my most played game last year. It was soooo gorgeous on my 1440p IPS screen @ 60fps. I really want to try it out on 3D, but I can't justify getting a 120 hz screen for a novelty gimmick.

And this;

All give off conflicting information. Has it explicitly been said that the Wii U version has been delayed till September? The press report says all versions, the image just says Xbox and PS3, and the quote says both formats (Xbox and PS3).

I might be grasping at straws here, who can blame me, but I think we need clarification.

It's posted on Ubisoft's forum as a sticky....see below

London, UK - February 7th, 2013 - Today, Ubisoft announced that its forthcoming title Rayman Legends, already announced for the Wii UTM system from Nintendo, will also be released on the Xbox 360(r) video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PlayStation(r)3 computer entertainment system. All versions will now hit shelves in early September 2013.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Nintendo fanboys (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of their culture. It's not like they are Xbox fanboys who you can treat like an asshole. If you screw over a Nintendo fanboy, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the Nintendo public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Rayman games for Nintendo systems, nor will they purchase any of Ubisoft's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Ubisoft has alienated an entire market with this move.

I'm really sorry for this fix.

I was thinking the same thing. I think it was "Japan" instead of French though. Hmmm...Squiddy, you got some esplaining to do

It's a classic post from years ago that gets repurposed for these occasions.
Someone will post the original link i'm sure but it's timeless and beautiful to me.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
So I didn't have a preorder on Legends, but I had put money aside in anticipation, preferably for the digital version.

Today Ubi went out of their way to prove to me I was stupid in doing so. For which I thank them, and since now I intend to get Legends for my ps3 for 15 euro from the discount bin (which the ps3 version will reach in a few months after release), I just spent the money I had prepared for Legends on those indie games I still hadn't bought from the eShop and Zen Pinball tables. Good stuff.
