Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

At least we can get some great Miiverse activity out of this. :)

It's proven to be quite a place for protest. Obviously people posting off-topically can get annoying (some folks were getting annoyed at the Earthbound posts in Balloon Fight's community), but as a way of indirect contact with Nintendo and other developers/publishers it has definitely lent a voice to the players.

What's really sad here is that Wii U owners seem like people lost in a desert begging for water, picture yourself the scene were the lost-almost-dead guy is scratching air. It's disgusting how Nintendo handled this lunch, in the sense that it's consumers seem desperate to grab almost whatever "leftover" is out there.

This is not new for Nintendo.

I have no problem with the game coming to other platforms but delaying the Wii U version until September when it's clearly finished is really annoying. We had a demo and a set release date in February already, it was ready to be released.

QFT! Ubi, release the damn game already!

Well hopefully this speeds up when DLC for NSMBU comes out.

I'm fiending for some more platforming action.

Also I'm not all that bothered by the news since I really thought that Rayman Origins was a fairly mediocre game. There just seemed like there were to many level assets reused and the level layouts all felt way to similar with the secret coins being in like the same exact spots every level. It was still a fun game to play considering there's like 5 platformers, if that, released for consoles every year.

I strongly suspect it's not remotely 'clearly finished', unless someone's got an explicit quotes to say otherwise.

You can take a lesson though. Don't prepay for games.
I've never had problems preordering/prepaying games unless the publisher is fucking terrible and delays or stock issues happen. The only reason I mentioned me having a prepaid preorder is that the guy I quoted was implying that the people complaining about a 7 month delay (on an already delayed game) are in the wrong, despite the fact many of them have preordered or paid for the game already. That's just fucking stupid.

Man, some of those comments are depressing. Petitioning to get it released earlier? Boycotting Ubisoft? Oh boy. I'd rather have a delay and a better game. Surely during this time they will be adding stuff and polishing things. I imagine Ubisoft have carefully thought this through. When will people learn that companies are not intentionally trying to piss them off, they're making careful decisions for good reasons.

The game is already done and I doubt they are going to change anything.

But why would people not buy the 360/PS3 game if it came out on the Wii U now? Your not going to lose those sales, but you ARE going to lose the Wii U sales.

If I see a game being sold for 60 that is inferior to the a version that's 20 dollars, I'm not buying it. Ubisoft themselves say the Wii U version is the best version.

Miiverse is great right now. Man i honestly don't think anyone is going to buy wii u version

If that is indeed how fickle Nintendo gamers are, it's no wonder third parties give Nintendo consoles the middle finger. Can't blame 'em.

Reasonable doubt. The game was originally delayed by a couple of months just so tweaks could be made and should have been out three weeks from now on. Then they delay it again and state the only reason for the delay is cause they want to launch it simultaneously with the 360/PS3. Nintendo showed it on their ND in January confirming them being the Japanese publishers and also released a demo, meaning the game must have been pretty much complete. Normally it'd have to have been certified around this time. The port is also based off of the Wii U version, and having that take seven months means that it must have been a last minute decision.

If it's not finished, it is obviously very close to being such and should have wrapped up production.

Ubisoft FB page:
We never want to delay a game and for that we're sorry. We made the tough decision to push back the release so we could offer it on multiple platforms. Stay tuned for more.

It is clearly stated why it is delayed. The release date is in 3 weeks. If they would have had any technical issues in meeting the deadline this would have been announced already.

Will probably go multiplatform I guess

Is that a shot from Rayman?

Looks better than Beyond!!!

Decision wasnt that careful. Fall means Pikmin 3 and Wind Waker HD for Wii U and GTA V for 360/PS3 users along with a host of other software for Legends to get lost in the shuffle.

I'm greatly surprised if so. Why not release it in three weeks for Wii U, and then just on other platforms in September? It doesn't make much sense. Hopefully they'll give some proper reasons soon enough, since this is getting a tonne of backlash.

While I agree with you, there must be something other than multi-platform that caused this delay. Delaying a title so close to launch is a huge deal. The should have really thought this through, or at least I hope they have.

With it being 3 weeks away, I wouldn't be surprised they would have started to press discs (pure speculation) , unless they have known about this before that happened. They might be sitting in a warehouse somewhere... who knows.

Either way it is a very stupid in my eyes to push the date back. This would have been a prime time for Rayman to make an impact on the Wii U community. It was the one game I was looking forward to on this system that would be coming out soon.

I honestly believe that the orginal WiiU version was already delayed before they were going to port it to the PS3/360. I think because of that delay, Nintendo said "fuck it do whatever you want" to Ubisoft. Why else would they go from (timed) exclusive too multiplat. Something must have happened.

Yeah, realistically, Ubisoft has little reason to fear that if they didn't do a simultaneous release across all three platforms, the Wii U version will take all the wind out of the Rayman Legends sails. If they had simply released the Wii U game on schedule and then released a "Gold" edition across the new platforms (and it could have also included a new Wii U SKU with added content if there was demand,) would sales of the later launch really haven been impacted? I don't think so, the franchise has a certain number of admirers and they'd be there for it whether it's brand-spanking new or if it's new to a platform. I'm not sure how aware even some of the Xbox/PS gamers they'd be looking to attract are of Wii U to think too much about a game being old. It's not typically Ubisoft's style to stagger a release (would AC:Bloodlines/AC:L have done better if they hadn't been released in the shadow of their big brothers? Was Rayman Origins going to do significantly better on 3DS/Vita if they hadn't suffered a delayed releases?,) but other publishers have done it and have had success.

I'm betting it just wasn't ready for February.

But you will buy the inferior version if they are both 60 bucks? Why is that? Because you dont have a Wii U?

Whats your take on PC games then? The PC ports of console games are almost always better quality, and cheaper, and release on the same day. (there is exceptions to all 3 of those points of course.)

If anything I'd imagine they would take things out (murfy stages) or replace them.
They probably don't need to do that though: At worst you can use the controller for those, but they might work OK with Kinect and almost certainly with Move, and even if Kinect isn't great if Smartglass can be mostly lag free it can work for that, so long as there weren't Murphy moments that demanded fine timing.
41 pages for Rayman Legends? SMH...
And what are you getting at?

This whole thing is akin to not selling water to people dying of thirst in an oasis so you can sell it to a larger group of people at a party that's also selling large amounts of champange, berr and other beverages. It makes no fucking sense.

If this post was on MiiVerse I'd 'YEAH' it..

:(

I just wish they'd at least release the Wii U version now, why not give us early adopters a chance to buy your game? We WANT to give you our cash! Surely it'll sell well, if not amazingly. Bring out the other versions later or whatever, a lot of people who were going to be buying Rayman Legends on Wii U probably won't even have a Wii U anymore by the time September comes around.

Wasn't speaking about me specifically, but about the general public. I personally won't buy it on any console until it drops in price. I like platformers, but not at 60 dollars. You're nuts if you don't think a huge price discrepancy in versions will hurt perception and sales. It also saves them money on marketing, since now they'll be able to make one big marketing push instead of 2. Hate the decision all you want, it still appears to be a wise one.

It makes some sense because third party stuff has been selling like shit on the Wii U. They probably didn't want the game to bomb so are choosing to release it when there's a bigger audience for the U. Will still pick it up, just annoyed at myself for believing third party stuff wouldn't get the shaft. This + Aliens, Pikmin being delayed. Should have waited.

Yeah, I dunno. I agree with what your saying for sure. I think your right, but at the end of the day im sad I wont play this game, probably ever now. Ive got enough else to play from September on, and then you throw new console into the mix and I just will end up not ever playing it.

Good argument sir! I do enjoy some good debating.

Kinda Stupid to delay teh WiiU version -- for all the reasons you guys have already stated.

But, as a non-WiiU Owner, this excites me greatly.

Gummb

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
This is representative of the discourse surrounding Nintendo's relationship with third parties on a whole. It's interesting that the delay is due to the apparent demand from owners of the 360/PS3, yet when Wii U owners "demand" for equal treatment, they are shit upon as if non-existant. This is an old discourse that spans back to the SNES, and it's disappointing seeing it continued today. However, by that same logic, Wii U owners should be able to demand equal release dates for:

1. Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6: Patriots
2. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist
3. Watch Dogs

If these are not announced to be on Wii U and released the same day as the other versions, the reasoning for delaying Rayman Legends is bullshit and not for the fans.

I have worked on games that have been delayed because they were nowhere near release. The bullshit we came out with to justify it was pretty far-removed from the actual reality of the situation!

I guess by September we will know if Watch Dogs will be anywhere near Wii U, so we will see if Rayman still deserves love on Wii U or not.

You do realize whatever perception of Ubi that would change for people wouldn't be in their favor either right?

Pretty cold of Ubisoft to delay the game specifically for multiplatform. BUT, I get to play the sequel of my GOTY on Xbox so I'm not complaining.

I am glad other people will be able to play the game on different consoles. But if that means having to wait 7 months... that stings.
