Hey ComicGAF, I'm looking to get into Deadpool, but not sure where to start. What a good jumping in point?

- The Joe Kelly Deadpool Run from the 90s
- The Gail Simone Deadpool run from the early 2000s
- Cable and Deadpool (loses steam near the end, but the first 20 or so issues were great)
- Uncanny X-Force

That is what I have read and would recommend.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Uncanny X-Force was the best Deadpool.

UXF was pretty much the only good Deadpool but you never know if someone wants good Deadpool when they ask for Deadpool recommendations or if they want Deadpool Deadpool.

wolvy with bone claws beat up lobo a couple decades ago, DC fans stay pressed

Is it too late to convince you not to?

I just finished Saga of the Swamp Thing Vol 1. The story is good, but I love the art. Is there anything comparable that I should look for? Do you guys read or recommend the current iteration of Swamp Thing? I like Hellblazer a lot and I think I'm going to keep up with the new series coming out in March, so if they are tied in then I'd probably be inclined to catch up on Swamp Thing too.

I also just got Orc Stain Vol. 1 in the mail. I like TPB's for their value, but the art and sometimes the dialogue get sucked into the binding. Orc Stain in particular has a whole bunch of two-page spreads that are ruined by the binding. By the time I had finished the book the glue was coming apart.

As I read the thread this wikipedia article has helped out a lot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comics_vocabulary. There is a wikipedia page for everything.

I loved the Kelly Deadpool series back when it was initially published, but hated everything deadpool immediately after his run ended....up until Uncanny X-Force. I went back and reread the first two trades of Kelly's Deadpool (classics) and now I can't find that magic that once entertained me. Maybe I just grew up, or had since then been exposed to better books which diminished the impact of those old ones, I don't know...but Uncanny X-force deadpool is still the best. The rest is meh.

Are people not enjoying the new Deadpool run? I have enjoyed the first 4 issues immensely and have laughed out loud many times.
I have never read a Deadpool comic before so is the new run considered bad?

Eh, it's alright. But people got a thing for the time Deadpool turned into an after school special, complete with A Very Touching Moment, so now every time the character is mentioned that one page that flies in the face of pretty much the rest of his history (outside of his Deathstroke inspired very beginning origins) has to be brought up. Over and over again.

I did too. Haven't gone back to reread. I think it also helped that Kelly's run came when spidey was in a bad era for him.

It's amazing. Tony Moore art, Mad Magazine writing. What's not to love?

Uncanny X-Force was amazing, but I sort of question the reading history of anyone claiming that Deadpool had never once received meaningful characterization/growth prior to that book. Deadpool has been good several times in the past 15 years. However, since Marvel suddenly decided to push Deadpool as an A-lister in 2008 or so, most of his comics have been shit making his inclusion in Uncanny X-Force stand out.

So anyone else find the Facebook feeds for stuff like Newsarama / CBR pretty god damn hilarious/sad when it mentions DC? The same handful of bitter fanboys (often with new accounts, as they somehow manage to get banned?) whining. Almost a year and a half in and they just can't let it go. Such bitter fucking drama queens. As a DC fan, their incessant whining just dampens my overall enthusiasm. Yeah, yeah, just ignore it obviously. But Jesus Christ. Find a new hobby if it makes you so spiteful.

Trying so hard at what, exactly?

I like the premise with the zombie presidents and whatnot. But the dialogue just doesn't work for me. Of course the art is amazing, Tony Moore does work on that book.

I dunno, for me the book trys to be funny but never really reaches that level of absurdity you expect from deadpool's dialogue. (which Remender captures perfectly)

About time for Johns departure, i don't think he wanted to be in the constant crossovers, the assumption based off his last Green Lantern arc having little to do with Third Army.

Johns had a hell of a run with GL - Rebirth and Sinestro Corps are some of the best GL stuff I've read - but it's obviously time. Though Third Army has improved lately once the focus is back on the evolution of the Corps/Guardian relationship. Still, I'd be interested in seeing someone new take the reigns.

Johns, who is DC's chief creative officer, was guarded in discussing his plans for the publisher's Justice League books, but said the time was right for him to make them his primary focus. He'll be working with writer Jeff Lemire and continue to write "Aquaman," too.

Lemire taking over Green Lantern?

Pretty sure he stopped "writing", as in "coming up with actual ideas that didn't involve the turd from Step Brothers growing arms and legs", Green Lantern quite some time ago.

Dude. We get it. You like Marvel. The past year of Green Lantern comics has been fine. All the stuff with Sinestro and Hal has been super fun, and Simon Baz's story has an earnestness to it that feels pretty nice to read.

No writer will be able to have as transformative an effect on Green Lantern as Johns did, so I posit that whoever's taking over is gonna go in an entirely different direction. That's gonna be exciting. Can't wait for next month's solicits.

Well that long overdue. Although I still can't think of a writer that DC has that would make me want to buy that book again.

Lately DC's been plucking Image and other assorted indies for writers. So, I'd think outside the box on this one.

Oh please. Do you "get it" that Green Lantern: Rebirth is the book that got me back into DC Comics?

Might want to recalibrate your assumptionating

Let's drop this fucking argument right now because you think Carlie Cooper is a good character, and therefore I win.

How about that new Green Lantern writer, you guys.

why would I need to quote when the post I'm responding to is right above mine? how is the context not clear enough in this situation? how do you think Carlie Cooper is anything but Dan Slott's dumbass pet character?

She's been around longer than Slott. That's like saying Milla is Brubaker's punching bag and nothing else, ignoring what makes/made the character great.

And Slott is putting Carlie center stage, in awesome fashion.

lofl wait do you even know who milla is

I'd be very surprised if someone from Image comes to DC and jumps straight into the flagship Green Lantern job. DC's been giving those guys the lesser titles, and then they work their way up.

I'll give you a hint:
"I remember the day my dad first told me he was a pilot..."

Lemire's just started on Green Arrow, so wouldn't imagine it's him. Who else is rising at DC these days? Scott Snyder? Andrew Kreisberg?
