Rumor: New Playstation Vita; HDMI port, 4G, memory card price cut

In this case, they should. Pissing off the few who actually bought their struggling hardware wouldn't be the best way to show they care.

No, they shouldn't. As a day 1 Vita owner I'm all for Sony doing anything they can to breathe life into the platform. Everyone benefits from that, no one benefits from a dead Vita.

As a VITA owner, supporting it from day 1, if there is a new and improved version coming out that has ANY added features to it (I don't care about 4G as I have the WiFi model), i'm gonna be pissed as hell.

Imagine people who bought the new iPhone day 1, and then...Apple releases the new & better model a year (even less) later.

IMO That is done by getting good games onto your platform, not by pimping out the hardware. Case in point, the 3DS.

I don't really count Apple as a console manufacturer.

Damnit, I'll buy a revision just for the HDMI. Which should have been there from day one. Bastards. I welcome a memory card price cut though.

You seem very knowledgable on Japan. Would you call yourself an expert?

Indeed. Pretty sure I saw some recent Japanese poll where Vita was like most wanted hardware or something, but price was just way too high. PSP started off shit too, all it takes is a few big games to push it up. It won't be Monster Hunter, but maybe PSO2 can do something.

Not gonna lie. As a current Vita owner I'd be kinda pissed if the new model had HDMI out. That's the kind of thing that should have been there from the start if they were going to do it. It's not like the PSP where it wasn't commonplace at the time.

a significant firmware update will go live bringing in a lot of requested features including new ways to organize apps in folders.

How in the hell are folders always missing from these devices at launch and then they have to go back in and add it later. Why not design them in from the get-go. It either has to be intentional or these companies are incompetent.

not sure if serious

I really hope this isn't the thing they're announcing on the 20th. I really, REALLY hope so.

Couldn't they be announcing both? Why does it have to be one or the other?

If it is the "future' of Sony, and they plan to support both the PS4 and vita, wouldn't the include both at this conference?

Umm...this is what is to be expected if you buy a console day 1.

If it has HDMI out, I'll be buying it when it's $200. If it's not dead by that point, that is.

In the time it takes you to wait for it to hit $200, you probably could have saved / afforded the $300 a few times over. Not sure where the logic is in this.

That being said, this seems more like a move to compete with other mobile devices. HDMI out would be a big boon, as people could hook it up to their TVs for content viewing, and provided Sony tosses in DS3 support, it could be a home console on the go (I think this is extremely unlikely).

The HDMI out alone would make me interested in buying the Vita, a means of playing physical PSP games on the thing will fully pull me in for buying the WiFi model.

I hope they allow us to use the PS3 controller via bluetooth. Would play it alot more if I could do that, the sticks are just so small on the Vita.

I predict they reveal this alongside the PS3 and announce it is compatible as a controller for the PS4 that functions similarly to the Wi U's controller. (haven't read through all the post in this thread, but i figure someone has already made the same prediction).

I'm more and more tempted by the vita, but still not 100% in.

No, no. I'm not saying it has to be one or the other, I'm saying it shouldn't be THIS at all!

The Vita portion on the 20th should be a seismic explosion of games and features. I think Sony will make a big mistake announcing this thing on the 20th. They should wait until E3 at least.

IMO That is done by getting good games onto your platform, not by pimping out the hardware. Case in point, the 3DS.

The 3DS still isn't doing that well outside of Japan, so that's not a great example. A better one would be the DS, which was regularly being outsold by the PSP outside of Japan right up until the Lite came out and that's where it took off.

The Vita certainly needs more game announcements but the idea that that's all they need is ridiculous. The Vita already has a good game library, the problem is that there's so much scepticism over its future, over its price and over a variety of other things, that people just write it off.

Sony need to start from scratch and build some momentum and a "re-launch" is the best opportunity to do so. New SKU, price drop, memory card price drop and new game announcements. All four, I think, would be integral parts of it. Get rid of one and it's a flop. So if the OP is right and Sony thinks that they can just release a new SKU and keep the same price, they're absolute idiots and aren't really interested in making it a success.

New technology/features is welcome. But I would like to see real price cut.
At least it kind add the value worth. Hopefully better app/browser and games then I don't mind get one. I rather to see this new model by Summer otherwise I cannot afford 2 or 3 new systems in short time.

Whoa if PS4 and Vita comes out on the same day! Dunno why Sony didn't launch Vita earlier though, wasn't it rumored to be coming out like a year ago?

Eh, I wanted HDMI out from the beginning. If they won't release some sort of peripheral for the current Vita I will not be happy. It's not like the thing is easy to sell for the right price to get a new one. :|

That would be seriously fucked up if Sony announces this -- not PlayStation 4 -- at the event.

Seriously, seriously fucked up.

:(

If this is true, it underlines how utterly clueless Sony are in regards to why the PSVita isn't selling.

How many people have actually went to buy one and thought "Hey, this thing does not have 4G or HDMI...no sale".

All possible, except for no price drop.
Yoshida said it would happen in 2013 just before Christmas and just the other day in the Q&A with investors they said that price is under consideration (which in non layman's terms means that a price drop is already planned). Also it's not like Vita's situation can fixed adding more value :D
