Can people stop whining about it being an MMO? Because its not, IGN described it as an FPS with MMO elements. Fairly in with my predictions that it will be Borderlands-like in nature. They also confirmed no sub.

After watching the analysis, I can't help but scoff at "Space Zombies" and "Time travelling robots," it makes me question the tone of the game, and if it is indeed still serious. TBH those are usually creatively bankrupt archetypes for enemies in the history of sci-fi so I'm curious as to how they are presented, as well as the game as a whole. If the entire thing is just an amusing love letter to sci-fi, I guess that's okay, but I don't get that tone from the art.

Other thing that stuck out to me was the Mage class. This produces a bunch of interesting questions, including how magic will control. Will there be a dedicated button? What will that button be used for in other classes if so?

Kinda disappointed with much of the art, the enemy designs don't seem to be particularly interesting besides the Fallen. Environments look fine, kinda dash hopes of a persistent, explorable world though. The only cool design that caught my eye was the Pike land vehicle, which looks like it will be cool. Gonna wait for the official reveal before making further conclusions but from the art, I'm seeking clarification more than I am just more. We need gameplay details, those are what matter.

I like it. I seriously hope we don't have to put up with that timed-exclusive crap at this day and age...And I am ok with the MMOish thing - not that there are many MMO in current gen console anyway.

Fallen Xbot (cannot continue gaining levels in this class)
looks great, sounds interesting. give me more. also, wow at the titan class. thats straight halo there.

Future Gen?

Awesome.

I wonder if Sony will give them a shout out on Tuesday. I suspect if we dont even get a "and we welcome Bungie to the playstation family" comment then someone at Activision told them not to.

Based on Bungie's questionable PQ work on the elegant/straight-forward X360 hardware I'm betting the PS3 version will have some noticeable graphical issues. Orbis version for me.

Even if it's MMOish, you would be crazy to charge subs for anything these days. Especially a mulitplayer game that requires a healthy population.

I'm assuming this is there way of saying it's a paid single payer game with a F2P MMO as well.

Assuredly this makes the most sense.

Looks like we're not going to see shit from the event the press went to this last week. They probably saw gameplay, but Bungie isn't going to unveil footage yet. Maybe on their own website?

It would be pointless having a unveiling of the game without gameplay footage. We all know they are working on the game. An announcement today based upon concept art would be underwhelming.

It is a MMO though.

Not in the traditional sense, and not how many people are falsely interpreting.

It's impossible to talk about the positives and negatives of the format until we know just how massively multiplayer it even is. It's all relative, and I think people are reading far too much into it.

Personally if you are going to force online connection I would prefer an MMO, you're already giving the biggest drawback of them so I want the positives that go with that.

Not the first time, I have seen many times announcement only has concept art or title.
I hope we will see more visual motion anytime soon. I bet we will see teaser GCI video coming up soon.

Borderlands meets Demons Souls would be awesome. Throw in Halos 30 seconds of fun mechanic as well and it could be a winner.

Another thing is that the classes look kind of meh. The Hunter class looks a Quarian slash whatever the assassin class was in Brink. The Mage class looks straight out of The Republic in Star Wars. And the Titan class looks like any generic space marine anyways, with the art reminiscent of Vanquish' main character and even the ancient Humans in Halo.

We already know there will be customizable gear, so I'm guessing there will be a ton of loot they've developed for this game, so I'm hoping there are more cool looking pieces than those. The Warlock does look badass though.

Yeah I know it has happened in the past.

But generally not after making an announcement of a specific announcement. This is different from say unveiling a game at the VGAs through a rendered movie. E.G. The first Reach trailer.

Are we past the age of split screen in FPS's?

Playing with friends? In real life!?

i hope so

It just makes me wonder if Destiny will still support Split Screen gameplay IE sitting with your buddies on a couch playing some multiplayer Destiny together. Since we're almost at the age of new consoles too, does "always online" eliminate LAN? I hope they don't go the Blizzard/Starcraft route and morph "LAN" into "online custom games".

I hope it's like Halo where the cinematic and story are serious, but the combat is hilarious as all can be. Judging by those enemies, it may very well be!

Please inform me as to how you would define it with sources as well.
A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMO and MMOG) is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet. Many games have at least one persistent world, however others just have large numbers of players competing at once in one form or another without any lasting effect to the world at all.

This is what wikipedia describes it as, I dont see this game allowing hundreds of players on screen at once working towards a single objective and goal.

What they mean by MMO like features is more of the drop in drop out always online style and thats mostly it.

You are a terrible person.

I hope this still supports split-screen. Bungie was one of the last to still truly care and I still expect them to. Whether for co-op, competitive, or both.

WHAT!?!?! Who dislikes playing games with a friend next to them? I'm way more likely to play a mediocre game if it has coop. Such a fun feature.

i'm a 33 year old man with a family. i play games with friends from my couch with them on theirs. with the internet. its like magic.

split screen is dev resources i'd prefer go elsewhere. just my own 2 cents, i don't expect a lot to agree with me and i can definitely see how split screen is VERY important for others.

I would say Dark Souls certainly has elements of that.

So is Bungie not releasing any actual footage / in game shots today?

Thats disappointing. Hopefully the Vid-doc has some more info though.

Agreed, but time traveling robots and explicitly labeling them space zombies is on a whole other level. I'm sure Bungie still has their great, witty writing staff.

Anyways,

Very. I almost got Borderlands 2 because it has splitscreen. Other things stopped me. Wasn't interested at all until i found out it has splitscreen...
If consoles didn't have splitscreen games, i might as well stick to PC always. Always loved splitscreen/same console gaming, ever since having Super Nintendo.
Since Bungie has previously payed attention to co-op and splitscreen, i really hope they're continuing the tradition with Destiny.

The Flood are space zombies. Think about it for a moment.
Also, Faster-than-light travel is always time travel by definition.

Keep in mind those were very generic labels used to describe them on a basic level to the press. You could break down the enemies in Halo in a similar way if you really wanted to. I'm sure there will be more to the enemies then just being time traveling robots and space zombies.
