Wow my hype for this game really died, just like for Versus XIII.
Next time don't announce games 5 year before the release please.

Well Sony learned a lot this generation. PS3 was announced 1,5 year before release and now they are announcing PS4 just few months before release date. Most of their games also now are released a year from announcement like TLU or GOW:A

I certainly hope Ueda returns to Sony in some capacity (and that Sony will take him back). I don't think too many developers will be as patient and nurturing with him as he realizes his vision. Would hate to see mega-budget Ueda games go away.

Buying a system for 1 game, and for a game that doesn't exist, really is their own fault.

PS3 had enough great games this gen that I'm sure they got their money out of it and then some.

Yea because there are no other games on ps3 worth playing right?

I don't think it's a jab at the gaming value of the PS3, but rather just it would be disappointing for a game you'd hope to see not come out for it.

I do wonder if this game would have even been announced if it wasn't for that leaked trailer.

I bet it could have been quietly shelved if that trailer did leak.

What a disaster the PS3 turned out to be. No TLG game, 1 Gran Tourismo game, almost every 3rd party title performing or looking better on the 360. Good job on that Cell Sony. And all of this coming after Sony, once again mind you, promised to make a machine that would be easier for developers to program for.

The music!

That second one makes me feel like a little kid.

This is pretty much same here. It's like Ghibli anime movies that have this magic and even people who don't watch anime or hate it the all love it.

And yet console had gems like Valkyria Chronicles or Folklore. Both of those games are for me Okami and StoC of PS2 era.

I think Ueda is a little more than just a producer.

That depends how much of TLG's development issues fall at his feet.

He doesn't do all the art assets or even the game design. It's a collaborative effort. He has however been the overall lead so he's responsible for the productivity of his team and his unwillingness to expand that very small team.

He has an interesting vision in game design but he's not realizing it on his own and he's been a failure as a manager of people, there's no other way to classify the past ~8 years.

If Ueda leaves and SCEJ identifies the right people within Team Ico to fill the gap they could become a bigger, much more productive studio.

I am still unsure if I'll buy a PS4 at launch, but if this is a launch game then take my money. Got hooked on these games after playing through the HD Collection late last year and want more!

Don't think it was a disaster at all. Yeah, it didn't get TLG but there's a nice varied catalog of first party games. And I don't ever remember hearing that the PS3 would be easy to develop for.

Why is one GT bad? Isn't PD still supporting 5 with content?

Honestly I think this was one of those titles that was announced too soon. Sony should have kept it under wraps.

I think the problem came with increasing ambition for his projects.

Don't get me wrong, all his projects have a certain level of ambition, but the size grew with each game.

ICO was a fairly small and linear in scale, but the Ico/Yorda dynamic was pretty unique at the time.

Shadow of the Colossus was much larger scale, making the puzzle elements integrated with the boss-sized battles, and giving the player much more of a 'world' to explore.

Is The Last Guardian expected to be even bigger in scope? I know the AI was expected to be really deep, but I wonder if the world dynamic was intended to be even larger than SotC?

Tell that to a guy I know who thinks the PS3 is only useful for the Souls games and TLG. Oh, and he bought the system for TLG.

He is pretty stupid for buying a system before the game comes out. People have more money than sense it seems. I would rather rent it or borrow a friends for a weekend if I wanted a game system just for one game.

They did promise developers that the PS3 would be easier to work with than the PS2. They also said the same thing about the PS2 before it came out. However, if the rumored specs for the PS4 are true, then Sony has finally delivered on that front.

Just develop the game to the best of their ability and get it out on the console (I happen to prefer the PS4). Frankly, I think we have been waiting so long for this game that it may be another FFXIII...long development time, underwhelming game.

Ueda would be better suited for PSN titles. It's obvious that he doesn't have the restraint to deal with enormous projects. Perfectionists are almost always better suited for smaller projects.

I can definately remember a comment rumoured to have been made by Fumito Ueda years ago about the complex architecture of the PS3 and threatening to leave the Japan studio over it.
I am hoping the power and ease of PS4 will make this the original vision of the game instead of any sacrifices that might have been made for PS3. Although I have a feeling that if it was not for PS4 coming TLG would have been scrapped.

Well, seeing that they have restarted the project a few times, it moving to PS4 does make sense.

In a way it's bad because it will be a while before I can manage a PS4. On the other hand, if the move helps the game achieve what Ueda envisioned, being a great game/experience that is, I'm ok with it.

Oh yeah, this just reminded me of that hilarious gif posted when the game's patent was dropped or something, can't quite remember.

The delay hasn't bothered me, other than every time this game gets brought up, I'm reminded of my close friend who wanted so badly to play this and Battlefield 3, and he died of cancer before either game came out. I think he'd be shocked if I told him that, two years after the last time he and I talked about it, I still had no idea when TLG would be out.

Despite what platform it releases on, I wonder how much it has changed since we last/first saw it. If the rumors of the project being restarted are true.

At this point, would we even want it to be a PS3 game? Wouldn't it be better if the last reboot of this game was to redo it from the ground up for Sony's new hardware instead of trying to update the old engine to keep it up to current standards? Games with long development times like this usually suck, and dear god, please don't let this game suck.

Though I did buy a PS3 for this game, there have been plenty of other titles I have enjoyed on the system, so I don't feel burned by having to wait for the next-gen system to play it. Whatever has the highest likelihood of this game actually coming out and being great.

I think the visual style was probably pretty locked down. I wouldn't expect it to look much better than this screenshot.

It's 1080p, already anti-aliased (it seems like), etc.

Gonna take this with a grain of pepper but I really hope it's true. Would be a fantastic title to showcase Wednesday and most everyone on Gaf would leave the presentation with tears of joy.
