Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

6VeeyiK.jpg

Seems like they're trying to squeeze too many different ideas into that controller. Reminds me of Homer's car.

I don't see it even being remotely plausible that we will have to pay to play online on the PS4. Sony isn't nearly that stupid. They will have an enhanced subscription service, but online multiplayer will be fine.

I'd be way more shocked if the Orbis or Durango were released at a price ending in anything but $x49 or $x99 than I would nearly anything else about launch. They're pretty serious mental hurdles to cross. Once you're between them, you may as well go up to the next level.

FIVE HUNDRED AND NINETY NINE US DOLLARS

Lool if this pricing rumor turns out to be true then Sony must really love losing money. It will suck if they don't reveal pricing at the event and then we're left guessing until E3/who knows when.

If Sony also block used games and are always online, then this industry will crash.

They're probably including PSEye 2.0 in every box judging by this price.

Sony can't charge for PSN right now because people would laugh. So if they're going to charge for it next gen, you have to think they have a pretty good reason for thinking people (non fanboys) will pay. Perhaps we'll hear about those reasons tomorrow.

People would laugh either way. It's asinine to charge for online and to gate apps like NetFlix that you already pay a subscription for. It is just as laughable right now for Live to charge.

y'all should be ashamed

I agree, especially since two of their platforms already does this.

if they don't keep online gaming free on psn, i'm out.

Pretty much in the same boat. Xbox live turned me off so much I stopped even turning on the 360.I really hope this isn't true because I am only interested in the new Playstation console next gen if they blow this it will be the first time I won't be buying a console.

They can't charge now because it being free was touted at the beginning and it was a selling point that could help differentiate it from the 360. Unfortunately it's completely clear to everyone in the world that people are a-okay paying for online play thanks to the fact that XBL grew exponentially from last gen and at this point Sony would be stupid to not capitalize on that fact.

I think they'll keep the benefits of PS+ as well (nice deals, some free games, etc.) but if they don't charge for online play, they're not being run very well.

Kotaku looking for last minute hits before we finally get straight facts from Sony themselves and rumors like this won't be able to lure people to their site anymore.

Be some bullshit if they start charging for online play or lock media options behind a pay wall. Then again this is Kotaku and I have serious doubts about their source. If he were a developer he would have no way of knowing the specifics of their pricing. I also doubt he would know the specifics of their online plan.

$429/529 for a system which includes:

-7850 Level GPU
-8 tablet level CPU cores

Sony haven't learned their lesson and if they choose to go anti-used, then for me Sony can FUCK off.
If they choose to go anti-used, always online and £10 per month for 'Playstation World', I'm still gonna buy one. This generation has gone on for far too long. Fuck it, drop a 5850 in there, I'm still on board.

That goes for Durango too. I'll re-up my XBL sub at twice the price. Just someone, anyone, bring me next gen.

"Playstation World" sounds like PS1, 2 and 3 BC to me. Probably through streaming though.
I've said it before, but PS1 streaming is profoundly stupid. Onlive bandwidth was about 2 GB per hour, the system seems to be extremely easy to emulate near-perfectly for Sony, and even as a subscription type thing they'd be better off just caching the game locally then cycling out when you move to something else. PS2 seems unlikely too, but that depends on how much of what they accomplished can be carried over to PS4, if not improved on PS4.

... PS3 though, yeah, that'd kind of need it.

Can't wait till tomorrow. Going to be fun. If it launches around $450~500 I will probably wait till a bundle and price drop down the road.

$529 is dangerously close to $599, there is simply too much stigma associated with releasing a console with a price in the $500s.

From the sounds of it, Online gaming is free but services like Gaikai's Cloud and PS+ features will not be. Sounds... reasonable?

Yep, online play remaining free. PlayStation World giving access to the Gaikai stuff. ie: the 'world' of PlayStation games. ie: backwards compatibility of sorts. That'd my guess.

bish gets all the credit :)
And now the bad rumors start.

Hopefully the subscription just unlocks cloud saves and the rumored youtube integration.

Holy crap, people need to slow down/calm down. @_@ We are less than 13 hours* until the announcement! Have some patience. :lol

hahaha yes!

Regardless, I simply can't see Sony charging for basic online MP play or services like Netflix/Amazon/etc.
If this 'PlayStation World' thing is real, it will be a premium service for things like streaming games, cross play, game/DLC discounts, etc., which is expected.
People just need to relax a bit. :p

I can see where this is going. If sony charges for online, everyone will be ok with that because everything sony does is very acceptable.

$429 is fine, but I don't like the sound of $529.00. Also, I sure hope that I don't have to start paying to play online or I will start to sour on the whole deal.

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
I don't see how they can charge to play online and have two other console which do not. It is also a really big selling point for Sony,

Killthee

helped a brotha out on multiple separate occasions!
Lol, underneath, running alongside the side of the controller, between R1 & R2 shaped like a sharks fin. Am I going mad and seeing things?

I think it's just the angle or maybe the bottom half uses a different material like rubber.

R2 doesn't look that different from the DS3 one. Guess the improvement is in the spring : /
