Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

But why would anyone in Europe then ever get Gold ? I thought the idea was to make paying mandatory so Europeans are milked as well.

That hasn't worked out well in Europe though, outside of the UK, and would be more disastrous at the same price point and released at the same time.

They would be insane not to include a headset.
absolutely insane, that's one of the major reason xblive was so dominant.

Nintendo waited until about 3 months from release to announce a price. Not sure why Sony needs to rush. Plenty of time to see if Microsoft shows their cards first.

I've been calling this for a while. I was certain sony would not offer free online play with the new system and lose out the money generated from subscriptions.

They don't need to, they have a different subscription model that give them the talking point of free online and generates plenty of revenue. If anything, PS+ has been such a success they are going to push it more and expand it, not copy MS.

Don't mind paid online. Of course I'd rather it be free, but it wouldn't cause me to get upset and not buy one. I'm there day 1, and here tomorrow to see massive amounts of crow eaten.

Yup...
I mean, c'mon...
It's a big feature that I can use a tablet or smartphone to use PSN? Xbox-Live already has this -- it's called live.xbox.com.
It want to use the included PS Eye so people can watch me play and I can watch them play? What the hell? Yeah, no thanks.
Now you're going to charge me for most of PSN's features? Get the fuck out of here. If true, especially if it's required for playing online, combined with the rumoured console price, and I might as well build a gaming PC and just play what I own on steam and get everything new via Steam sales.

Xbox Gold is getting a bad rep but it has soooooooo much content that is exclusive on their videogame console like free UFC before the main PPV !

There'll be a mic on the camera.

The controller appears to have a headphone jack if you want sound to be private.

How much of a success has it been?

What would the $529 model have besides a bigger harddrive, psplusworlds subscription, or like an extra controller or pack in game or something? I hope on-board backwards compatibility.

Orbis is also following the path first set by Xbox Live: our source says "most" of the PS4's online features will require a premium subscription to use. Sony's new online service will be called PlayStation World, our source says, replacing PlayStation Plus

I wonder if "most" means apps that are available free elsewhere. It'd be pretty funny to have to pay to use netflix on ps4, and it's free on ps3.

I will be shocked if they don't have an sku at $399.

Guys, please explain to me why you expect them to charge for stuff they already do on the Vita, a brand new system, FREE?!

Vita has:

Cross-game chat
Cross-game invites
Online Play
..And more I can't think of

FREE.

Now, that system just came out a year ago. Do you really think they're going to charge for this stuff that's already free on the Vita? PS3 --> PS4 I could understand, but not when their current handheld does more than the PS3 and it's still free.

What I expect is features that neither the PS3 nor the Vita does and those will cost money. Playstation Cloud stuff, stuff like that.

This.

The stuff they will charge for is stuff that does not already exist like the gaikai and cloud stuff

Bingo, plus has been a big money maker for them. So they are going to sweeten the pot a lot with social features and game streaming, while at the same time keeping their free online chip.

There seems to be a light on the back similar to the one in the move. My guess is that the controller will work just like the move.

Bro look at your avatar, it's not tough to do, it happens, what do you expect ahahahah oh lord

Well I owned a 360 until it died on me a few months ago (my 2nd one) and I said in another thread I will pick up a Durango after a price drop. In fact you won't find anyone whose less of a fanboy than me, but if having your avatar Kazyfied makes you a raging fanboy then whatever.

I'm out of here now.

This is a last minute hits grab. Speaking personally, speculating, arguing, following and waiting for next-gen has been exhausting.

Have at it guys, I'm sitting this thread out. Tomorrow we find out which rumors have been true and which have been bogus. It's gonna be epic.

on the online service it looks like they are just adding features to PS+ for PS4 and everything free on PS3/Vita are free for PS4

They are pretty much direct conversions of the 40000 Yen price that was reported earlier.

That's why it's difficult for me to take this singular source that Kotaku is propping up an believing it. Anyone could piece together this information, the direct conversion of yen to dollars with a $100 surcharge is a good guess. I think it may be the case of a dev that knows one thing the dev-kit controller and the codename trying to pretend that he knows how everything will work.

Would a developer, who would risk his job to take pictures of the controller before its announcement, know anything about Sony's pricing strategies for its consoles and new soon-to-be controversial subscription service?

Sony would rather have several hundred million dollars in subscription revenue than a bullet point for console warriors to spout.

So about the cross game chat...There's no way it happens, right?

I mean we had reports of it being in the dev kits and I thought MS had a patient on it. That's why we got insanely dated text chatting cross game.

As long as the online portion remains free, I'll be happy. Then I'll consider paying for the other stuff depending on what they are.

Not only is it pretty close, it is almost exact by today's exchange rate.

$429 = ¥40,223

More than a coincidence.

If you look at past sony console launch price, you will find that they never, ever do direct price translation.

For example, PS3 euro launch was 599 euro, in US it was 599 US dollar. By applying exact exchange rate example Euro one should've been below 500.

If Sony launch $39,999 yen for Japan, you are guaranteed to see $399 price in US and 399 Euro in Europe. Mark my word.
