PlaySation 4 Logo Leaked Ahead of Announcement?

It's a fake. The colours make no sense and it doesn't actually say anything for being such a wide logo.

I don't believe so. Charging for online play and giving away a healthy amount of free games each and every month along with possibly some downloadable content as well as the additional features is a very good value proposition in the face of a $50/$60 Xbox Live that only offers some of the above features.

Cloud gaming especially. To offer any
subscriber access to their entire cross generation back catalogue. Incredible value.

Now that I've thought about it, I actually
don't mind the price as much as I initially did, but it all depends on how Sony leverage cloud gaming and Plus on PS4.
I'm not saying it's not a decent value when you think about it. I'm saying the general public doesn't care about half of those features and wont care about the value. They just want to play online games and maybe get the game discounts if they don't mind an all digital download future. And when they see $50 Vs $90 I think a lot of people will waiver. Not to mention when you ask a good portion of the people why they're willing to pay for Live their response is "Because my friends have it." So you're going to have to hope for a lot of early adopters at $90 that are willing to spread around the value of the service.

Most of that value only applies to video game enthusiasts. The general public has
already been accustomed to having no BC because of this gen and they don't care about having their saves in the cloud.

The access to free games, discounts, early betas, cloud saves, automatic background downloading is already worth more than that.

So same things as now but $40 more a poor substitute for local BC many won't benefit from (bandwidth caps, lag, I don't live near the server, my country sucks etc). I'll have to wait and see final pricing before deciding about this. Sony probably won't announce any pricing though.

You are right of course. Saying that, I do believe Sony could make the case for why people should choose the pricier World over Xbox Live.

The free games argument along with the access to thousands of games at the touch of a button (and a good internet connection) might just be enough to convince a few over to World instead of Live.

You are right though, the value proposition in just monetary terms would be against Sony and it would be an uphill battle to convince people to subscribe to World over the cheaper Live.

now that's something i can back up. hope it's true.

I suspect that is what they'll do- at least that's what they should do. PSN+ at $89 would be a great service for many folks, not for me, but for others.

I do think if the PS3 had a paywall like the 360 this gen, given the rough start it's possible the PS3 wouldn't have bounce back the way it did.

So are we thinking that the backward compatibility with Gaikai, which would be included with your subscription to PS+, would allow you to play PS3 games for free?

Is this the correct way to look at this?

This is my hope and I hope it's not just access to PS3 games but access to PS1, PS2, PS3 and PSP games.

PSP is unlikely, but I remain ever hopeful.

You would have access to select PS3 titles free via PS Cloud streaming and it's unclear as to whether or how much of your digital back catalog would be accessible. You may just have access to your PS Plus/PS World titles.

Hopefully we'll get some clarification on that tonight. (I'm not naive enough to expect digital distribution of PS1/PS2 catalog titles that aren't currently available digitally. They're not going to stick Suikoden II up there for us through a Gaikai service if they haven't been willing to sell it to us digitally up until now.)

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage
And if that Gaikai service enables access to stream PS3s library?

I'd place the chances of that happening at about 1%. My guess is they'll put up individual games each month.

So if i skipped out on the PS3 this gen how would PS+/Gaikai/BC PS3 games work for me?

Would I still have to purchase the PS3 titles digitally and then play through Gaikai or is the BC PS3 Gaikai free with your subscription to PS+?

That 89$ a year sounds pretty sketchy imo but I do expect PS+ or Playstation World or whatever they decide to name the service will have a price increase but I don't see it being more then 10$ or 20$ increase.

I think they'd leave PS+ as it is.

The very notion of a new name = new service, for PS4 and PSCloud.

But I think they'd still have PS+ as a legacy service for PS3. So I don't think you'd have to suddenly cough up more to stay on PS+ - but if you get a PS4 and want its premium service, you'll want PSWorld.

I'd place the chances of that happening at about 1%. My guess is they'll put up individual games each month.

It undoubtedly would be some subset of the whole catalog. They'll have to relicense games, for starters.

I think the idea in that rumour is that there'd be a regular model for PSCloud where you pay, in some fashion, to play individual games, and then can pay a flat sub to get access to a PS+ style rotating selection of games.

If Sony really wants to make PSWorld expansive in terms of game selection and effectively turn it into 'the gaming equivalent of Netflix' for $89/year, I think they could get some serious traction with that model.

$429 or $529 seems like a weird price, I except the actual price to be minus $30 for each or plus $20 to make it a more 'streamlined' price. At least in the US.

But to be honest I feel they really need to aim for $399/$499. I'll be the more expensive one either way, but after the PS3 price that really shouldn't have another SKU in the $500's before tax.

It'll be interesting to see the model.

I think based on PS+, the idea of a flat sub for access to a part of the catalog (that grows with membership length) + per game access for the rest seems reasonable. So it would be a little different from the Netflix model in that regard.

EXTRA features are what I am willing to pay for. XBL was a value to me for various reasons I don't need to mention and now it seems PS4 may offer a good reason to pay.

I really hope the main services (Netflix, Hulu, MP, Chat) are all still not behind the paywall though.

Being that both consoles are similar in power and hopefully designed for 3rd parties to not have a discrepancy like last generation ... it really comes down to the services each can offer that will decide which one is my 'main' console. I still plan on buying both but the actual game purchases I made for the PS3 this gen was about 1/3rd of what I purchased for the 360. This was mainly based on the poor PSN structure at the beginning and not offering much even though it was free.

I do see PSN making great strides the latter half of this gen so I can only hope it's the unified experience I had with the 360.

Definitely going to be a tougher decision this round. Especially if the DS4 is easier to hold for me.

Name it Playstation /\OX[] ("ah-oh-zoh"). Done. I dont know why am i here stydying, i should be on kaz's place right know.

If they plan to charge $89 a year, multiplayer will be part of that. The other features without multiplayer doesnt justify that price tag.
Exactly. Do they really think most people will consider the other points to be worth that much? Heh, unless that also covers being able to access your saved games. Now that would be evil.

89 bucks seems steep. Id prefer a tier below that where we pay 50 bucks just for PS Plus as we currently know it. I dont see myself using Gaikai unless it ends up being really awesome. I wont stream PS3 games because I own a PS3.

funny, I wasn't really excited until I saw that fake logo, reminds me of the old urnotRede advertising. I hope they bring it, but i'm expecting a price of 549 to completely destroy my excited mood.

honestly, I guess they will charge for rental or buy licenses to play them, I'm afraid they won't offer the whole PS3 collection for free even if you're a PS+ subscriber.
