Possibly my favourite mock-up so far ... my old PS2 appears to be bulletproof and is still going strong today, they would look amazing next to each other!

Definitely, I'd completely be up for some major PS2 nostalgia, though I doubt we'll get it. I really need to open up my launch PS2 and adjust the laser - DREs all the time with that thing nowadays.

If sony was smart they would put a touch pad on the game system itself, that way you could navigate the menu's if you can't find your controller.

Would be amazing

Love this design. If the PS4 glowed blue when you turn the console on, it would be the coolest thing ever.

just as long as it only briefly glows blue during startup. I don't want a permanent blue light glaring at me while I'm trying to play games and watch movies.

Looks like the same amount of indentation as the DS3 but outwards not inwards. Not bad. Or is it a lip at the bottom? In any case, its what we asked for.

yeah, i don't think most people really want it to be as pronounced as the 360 triggers. they would alienate those that love the current triggers if they curved them the other way too much. (ie: i hear a lot of racing game fans say they love the current triggers)

also, if you notice, the distance between the triangle button and the R1 button is a little shorter than on the DS3. i like that.

It's because the PS3 triggers are not 'buttons'.

They feel like gas pedals.

And they are perfect.

i hope it looks nothing like the ps3 series of consoles. all three of them were pretty ugly, with the slim being the least offensive. the ps2 and pstwo were pretty nice though.

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
There is about 4000 posts here so I didn't have the patience to read them all, so maybe I'm just repeating what people have already said but here goes anyway.

I bet that if that controller photo is true, then there is a relatively large chance that the new camera will come with the system. I base my assumptions on the following.

The blue light block makes sense if you want to track the controller with the camera, and while it's rounded you can track the same block even if you tilt the controller up or down. That way while you can use gyro to track the tilting, you can also accurately track the tilt based on the lightblock too. This would compensate the drifting of the gyro sensors. Using only a ball shape like the Move does, you can't know the rotation without relying on the sensor data, and you can only track depth and location of the ball without sensors. A simple blue rectangle of this new setup is also easy to calculate in different positions.

But, if Sony added a lens switcher to enable IR light, they could use the same solution but without a bright light reflecting from the TV.

Wow. I love this. Do you know the model name? Would like to read about it.

It's a 1981/82 prototype called "Goronta" that was never released.

In 1982, Sony unveiled "Goronta" at the Japanese Audio Fair. "Goronta" was a prototype CD player, incomplete but fully equipped with a vertical loading tray. The prototype was considered impractical by many in the business, and was never put into actual production. However, "Goronta" planted a seed that Sony was about to water.

Still not liking the L&R2 buttons, they need a proper lip on the bottom or they need to curve away from the controller like real triggers do on the DS3. It looks like it would be quite easy for your fingers to slip of the L&R2 when they are pressed in.

This can be improved by making them looser. Less effort to squeeze them.

I don't want the lightbar to be on when I play non motion gaming games.

I hate it. and hated the glowing Move balls. makes it look like it's disco time when I play.

I understand this makes the system more reliable than wiimotes, but shit me not, I won't touch a glowing all the time controller when it comes to late night gaming with all the lights off.

I'm ok with this :

just dn't get it all glowy...

Considering that I already accidentally press down the triggers on the current controller as is, I can't see how this would bea good thing in any way shape or form

Unfortunately they can't design the controller to suit every single quirk of everyone on the planet.

True but the L&R2 issues of the DS3 are well known and hated while real triggers were seen as the perfect fix by pretty much everyone, logically they should have designed the L&R2 buttons based on the real triggers.

Obviously we wont know how well the redesign works until the controller is sitting in our hands but i'm not hopeful based on the pictures.

I agree. I'll remain sceptical until I read some hands on with it.

The triggers still look pretty bad, based on the slope of the molding of the controller. They look like they would still tilt inward/downward like the DS3, which was one of the biggest issues I had with them. Putting a slight lip on them isn't going to help all that much.

Given that nearly every shooter on PS3 uses L1 and R1 for aim and shoot there's no reason to think that'll change once PS4 comes out. Those new triggers look fine for racing games.
