Anyone who doesn't like how they're handling this just flat up is not a fan of any Kojima game. Period. This goes perfectly with the sense of humor that is in everything he does.

And it's fantastic.

I'm surprised a gif hasn't been posted on either of the two threads. Here's a quick one I made:

Lol!
Love the quality of your GIF what do you use to make them?

What is risky? This is essentially a gametrailers produced commercial for the game. It's a Geoff sponsored viral video.

Not fully disclosing the actual game, not feeding people instantaneous information about the game in question, not branding a game in a big franchise with the the creator/director of the series at first.

Why stigmatize this form of promotion?

I'm just disappointed they didn't really seem to try anything too interesting with the interview beyond the reveal at the end, all non-answers. Not that I'd expect anything but empty PR speak, but that would better play along with the charade.

Except that everyone knew exactly what this was the second it was revealed. They never fooled anyone. This is viral marketing. Plenty of games have done it before, none of them have needlessly drawn it out this far though. At some point it's "Ok you got us, here's the game"

Everyone on internet forums figured it out.

The dude who stumbled upon it during the VGAs or is just browsing through Youtubes hasn't.

It's riskier than you're making it out to be.

Hell, the risk is just in pissing people off about how secretive it is for no reason.

Geoff even mentions the MGS connections. They aren't exactly shying away from it.

So it deserves to be stigmatized because you don't like a drawn out joke?

Just stop following the game then until it's fully announced. Why stay on the train if you're hating the ride?

I can't participate in this discussion unless I think Kojima is a brilliant, misunderstood genius? Don't read my posts if they bother you so much.

No need to get defensive, I'm just questioning why you're watching and participating in this "viral marketing" you loathe so much.

I don't "loathe" it. I think it's stupid. And I think there is some double standard going on here with Geoff's involvement. He can essentially participate in an infomercial for Konami and Kojima and everyone thinks its cool and edgy, but heaven forbid he sit a can of Mountain Dew next to him while he talk about Halo we get a 50 page thread of people losing their shit.

So a poorly disguised Kojima/MGS game being shown off, with Geoff being in on the joke, is the same thing as blatant product placement by PepsiCo? Why even make that comparison?

So you don't like how people are enjoying this silly promotion, and you also think that's a double standard because they don't like PepsiCo promotion, gotcha.

So this is journalism? A bunch of scripted questions with a guy who either works for Konami or GTTV and offers zero new information? It's the same shit.

I think it's a double standard because people hold Geoff to this high journalistic standard when it comes to companies they hate (MS, EA, Mt. Dew, Doritos).

Eh, I personally had low standards for him as a journalist, DoritosGate made those standards drop a tad bit lower. He's not even making Phantom Pain out to be a end all be all game, he participated in one silly joke segment and it didn't feel gross or slimy.

The non silly version would be this:

Geoff: So how's MGS5?

Kojima: Can't say much, the Fox Engine has allowed us to make great strides.

Geoff: IS MGS5 a next gen game?

Kojima: Can't say if it is or isn't, you'll see more at GDC.

Geoff: Thanks for your time.

Is that really that much better?

That doesn't happen regularly with videogame interviews?

Of course it does. But most of the time people don't buy into it and think it's great. Who would have known that all PR people had to do was put on some bandages and a fake accent and they could get away with murder. Someone should tell Lucy Bradshaw.

Of course people are going to be more attached to something that isn't traditional or by the books.

So you don't like how other people are reacting to this interview/goofy marketing? If Pepsi advertised Mountain Dew at that Halo interview by making porn stars have a real chugging contest with Mountain Dew, and the cans were shook, people would be more receptive and entertained.

Instead they plopped bags of Doritos and Mountain Dew behind Geoff Keighley.

Man, I am loving all this Kojima mind f*ck. But, my problem with this interview is that Geoff Keighley and "Joakim" feel like they are in different rooms. Usually for an interview like this they would have same background behind both guys, otherwise it is jarring like it is in this interview. Also, the way "Joakim" talks it feels like they are not face to face, Joakim actually has to speak up. And, WHY DID JOAKIM NOT WALKOUT ANGRILY AT THE END? Come on guys if you are going to do this put more effort into it and make it more entertaining.

Oh and didn't someone confirm that it was FOX engine after the VGAs. Again, I want this...all this...just done better :p

What mindfuck? Everyone and their sisters knows this game is the next Metal Gear, I still find it funny but it's also pretty shameful that he could find a doritos journalist to play along with this shit.

Okay not mindfuck, but you know...crazy metal gear "cheese ball" that can only come from Kojima. Except, so far it has been underwhelming...

I don't see where the complaints of 'just show the game!' are coming from since this was only said to be an -interview-?
