Putting the Ly into Polygon, Crecente: "Oh, that I saw"

They brought this on themselves with this:

If you are part of the bunch of gaming industry big publisher stroking press don't pretend that you aren't. There's also the fact that MSFT paid 750K for them to set this up and they don't think there's some conflict of interest. I think they should be banned for all the attemps to lie and deceive the gaming comunity.

If they had any integrity Gies would be fired for all the shilling that he does.

Thanks to that ridiculous documentary whenever Polygon is mentioned all I can think of is this gif.

I skipped a few and got bored of searching as of your posts from three days ago or so.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, but people who treat GAF as if it's a single entity in order to generalize, all while pretending like they aren't a part of GAF themselves, annoy the shit out of me. Seriously, what is with this mentality of trying to play the persecuted minority and acting like some kind of hive mind exists?

I think I had like 4 posts total about it over 2 threads. Just my initial thoughts, I really don't care one way or another.

And this "I don't care either way" stuff, too... Ugh.

Really, now? You don't care? You don't care enough to post a dozen times about about a single issue and pretend like you're some kind of champion of a site that's somehow being treated unfairly in your mind?

This is Gies' favorite tactic: Only He, Arthur Gies, Lord and Center of the Universe, is allowed to decide what other people's opinions actually are. He can't accept that people can disagree with him for legitimate reasons in good faith; they're all liars.

When Brad Shoemaker played ME3 for the first time a few months ago, Arthur was there to make sure that Brad knew that the only complaint people had with the game was that the "ending wasn't happy," and you are a liar if you say otherwise. When someone called him out for constantly erecting strawmen, his response was "What you call strawmen, I call getting to the root of the argument."

I'm nearly sure there have been other concrete examples of this exact same tactic; getting into an argument, shifting the argument, claiming that other people aren't smart or honest enough to realize what they're actually arguing for.

Oh god, that's right he was the guy who put together that podcast with a group of like minded journos to talk about the ME 3 contraversy and they all came to the conclusion that it was nothing more than a vocal minority of entitled gamers that couldn't accept a sad ending. It was infuriating listening to 3 or 4 building up a strawman to tear down without one dissenter in the group. Such a circle jerk.

You'll truly be on m00t's level then.

Meanwhile: I think the thread title should be "I'mma go LY down: LY's Aegis told me."

Because he wants a job there most likely. At best he sees himself as part of the elite gaming industry and thinks the fans are all mouth breathers.

This seems like a terrible way to get a job at EA or anywhere. Does he believe that anyone at any company reads his Twitter feed and thinks "This guy would make a great co-worker!"?

The only position in the games industry he might be suited for is Community Manager, and his arrogance and derision are the opposite of what any employer would want. If you are vying for a position like that, this is not how you act in public.

I presume he just likes being an asshole on the internet, and not job-hunting.

I didn't follow the Microsoft funding thing super well, but as I understand itthe amount they got was basically positioned as advertising money and people on here felt like it might have been too much for the amount of advertising that was done on the Polygon site. I'm willing to give Polygon the benefit of the doubt for that and say that the advertising people at Microsot bought into Polygon's attempts at hype.

Gies is kind of a douchebag and if there is any justice in the world he will get a job as community manager right as something goes real wrong at where ever he got hired and it forces him to quit doing gaming related work, because it breaks him.

I don't see the downside of complaining about public figures.

No there isn't; I just feel it can be excessive in the case of Polygon. I shit on Giant Bomb from time to time and I love those guys.

People do this with literally every single community that gets moderately large

I still like Polygon's feature articles, but Arthur Gies' comments makes me just want to ignore the reviews.

ok, the twitter pictures have to start going. Twitter needs to think of something better.

Funny how gaming press fight on there though.

NeoGAF: my new HOME
I'm convinced these people are merely playing characters to stir discussion. There is no other sane and logical explanation for what is unfolding. It has taken months of planning and it is paying off in spades.

Right?

Right.

Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.

He already has an account. Last time he posted was nearly a month ago.

I'm sure he's worried about GAF giving him a new one, which is why he isn't posting here.

He is still actively reading all this (hi Gies o/ ) since he commented on Walker's 'snap my neck at GDC' pun that was written in one of the threads here.

Probably for the best that he abstains from posting here now, he has a few more years of growing up to do and learning basic social skills like admitting when one is wrong.

I want to get a job where I can say "With respect, go fuck yourself".

How do I do that? Do I get a tattoo? Strum a guitar in front of a woman? What?

I know right? Its seriously bothered me since game blogs have existed that they speak with expletives in headlines, comments, articles etc.. you all call yourselves journalists, you should have a better handle of language and adjectives to express yourself. You're not writing on a forum. Might just be me, I did have an ambition to become a proper journalist when I was younger so perhaps that's why it bothers me. They want integrity and their actions continually detract from anything of the sort.

Must be pretty committed to stop posting on GAF to get out of paying a bet

Thought Emoji Movie was good. Take that as you will.
Honestly at this point the Simcity BS can't just stop... I don't really give a shit if that have always-on DRM... if I don't want that I won't buy it.

It wasn't a secret with what this game was going to be, and I can vote with my money.

All this Twitter BS is just that.. BS.

Who cares what these gaming sites say or do, we have GAF goddammit.

I wish I could actually follow a Twitter conversation to make sense of what's going on. What a terrible medium for clearly communicating information.

Can you at least be getting a tattoo while talking in said documentary? That appears to be the "in" thing to do when you want to be hip and edgy...

I suggest a tatt of a mushroom, for reasons.

If you really are interested try TweetDeck as suggested by unbias in this post (LINK)
See how hard that was Cercente, now you try giving credit

I think you would have to be getting a prince albert while saying "I think NeoGAF is more than a forum, it's really a piece of performance art in a way. Like the precarious myth of Icarus, GAF will transcend the internet 3.0 into something something ea moneyhats" to have any chance to outdo the gies tattoo gif or the McElroy skyrim twirl.

Anyone else sick of reading twitter feeds in threads?

Can we get a clear/concise summary at the start of every OP so we don't have to sift through that shit?

thanks for the laugh

i find it impossible to respect any journalist who stoops to that sniping abbreviated shit pit to wage war (however just) on their peers. i'm including paladins like john walker and rab florence in this.

it's like submitting your PHD on single pieces of toilet paper written in orange crayon.

stop doing it you semi-literate bastards.

For a while there I really hated hearing about twitter everywhere, all the time...

Now I love it.

It's not necessarily about literacy, but I prefer to just understand the gist of the content without going through the YnR/Valley/WWE exchange.
