I'm down for Reach if anyone else is still on it. I've had enough 4 tonight.

You sexy son of a bish, I've been craving me some Reach. Let's get on and make love.

I would get on Reach but I'm about to get on Bioshock Infinite for the next 4 hours.

How you gonna deny the nerd with a Raichu avatar?

Don't forget guys, go buy BattleBlock Theater with a friend and take several bat hits before you play.

Speaking of Bioshock Infinite, I don't want to go in the official thread to avoid spoilers but can someone find an audio clip for me? I want to make a ringtone of
the noise that happens when you power up something with shock jockey

You know, as I've been flying around Forge, I can't help but marvel at how amazing the lighting system is. They really got it to work in Forge and it makes the pieces look so much more realistic.

That was actually nice to read from the bulletin.

We forget that 343 are designers working under a harsh corporation called Microsoft. To them it's only sales and money. They probably don't want too much focus on Halo 4 and to shift the entire team to Halo 5 already to keep with quicker launches of Halo games. I'm almost certain Halo 5 will be out in fall 2014.

Things like forge island are gifts to fans because 343 wants us to be happy with the game and the franchise.

Which is it? Did they trick MS into giving us free content or something?

343 did well with Forge Island.

I'm excited about ranks, just wish there were a way to display them in game. Will there be a way via smartglass or whatever to see the ranks of the people I'm about to be matched against in the lobby before the game?

No, I would say forge island was sort of an unofficial gift from Vic and Kynan to tide fans and forgers over while corporate would rather they focus on the next game.

The nextbox is most likely coming for sale this year, it's why the map packs are out so quick. They know this game will have a shorter life span and I don't know why, but I have this feeling Halo 5 will be out in 2014.

As for CSR, I think a really good thing to come out of this, is how it works and it's valuable experience for 343. I hope they track the hell out these ranks, the stats and listen to any/all feedback on how to improve it. It makes it more likely for Halo 5 to ship with ranks from day one.

I don't think that's going to happen. The usual cycle for Halo marketing is that they announce the game with some short teaser at E3. A year goes by with little to no detail and they have a media blowout at the next E3, along with waves of content until the game is released later that year. I just don't see a teaser or anything of that sorts for Halo 5 at this E3 when Halo 4 was released 6 months prior. I expect Halo 5 to be released Q4 2015. Microsoft also doesn't need a Halo announcement at this E3 to get fans interested. They have much more to show off this time around.

I expect Forza 5 to be their main launch title this year and the Black Tusk Studios shooter to be their main game for 2014 or a new GoW.

I agree, but that was their first game. Remember Microsoft said they wanted sort of annual releases for Halo. I think Reach was launched in Sept 2010 and by June 2011 we had Halo 4 and Halo: CEA announced, with CEA launching in November 2011.

I could totally see them teasing something Halo this E3 no? Given that we are in a sort of weird this gen/next gen flux with most games spanning generations?

I think Forza will be a huge launch title as well. Do think Epic is going to keep Gears console exclusive or no?

Very true. I could see another Halo game this year or next, but not Halo 5. I'll probably look forward to a new type of Halo game more than Halo 5 tbh. And I'm sure Epic has been thinking about that strongly but MS loves to throw money for exclusives (GTA IV and CoD games), so I bet MS wrote them a blank check for GoW exclusivity.

lol?

It's hard to see what is sarcasm and what's not these days. But the lighting system is pretty... eh. It's alright for what it is, but hardly what I would call amazing. Doesn't even cast shadows on player models, does it?

Far Cry 3's lighting is much better.

I'm being sincere. Forge has numerous issues that deterred many Forgers away, and I certainly felt discouraged at first. But part of Forging is working with limitations - no matter how tough - and challenging yourself to create something from that. You don't have those restrictions with a full map editor, which could make you overzealous with your design. Forge is not terrible by any means, but you can definitely tell the editing itself is unpolished (though it's nice pieces don't auto rotate when you change rotation snap).

The lighting is good in Forge. In Forge. I don't like the way most of the MP maps are lit, but it works with the Forge maps. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't impressed with how they look.

It does, but it's a bizarrely mild effect.

Reading the bulletin, it's pretty frustrating that CSR isn't shown in game, I think if it was it could have gone a long way to discourage quitting as it sounds as though leaving early will really impact your rank.

It seems like they've removed the visible ranks to prevent certain negative behaviours without considering all the positive behaviours they can encourage by including visible ranks.

Also noticed this: "Friends are not allowed to join a game in progress." (in the more competitive playlists)

I guess this is to prevent the scanario of pulling in a ringer after allowing allowing TrueSkill to match you against low level players? I see where they're coming from, but being able to jump into a friends game is one of my favourite new things in Halo 4. Just imagine how much time we spent staring at the menu screen in Reach and Halo 3 waiting for a friend's game to end.

I agree, I would have loved visible in game ranks, but judging from what was in the bulletin, it seems like 343 has a sound understanding of ranks and playlists and how people exploit them. It's like this, some low rank guy matches up with a low rank team. He has his buddy quit and then gets his high rank buddy to join and just shit on the other team etc. A dumb scenario, but plausible.

I'm actively going to play the hell out of the game to see just how the system works, how it's viewed on Waypoint, and I hope 343 sees whether this type of ranking system works or not. Has it discouraged cheaters, what the player retention rates are.

I don't know about the resets though. I don't want to kill myself in doubles or throwdown going for a high rank just to see it reset over and over. Depends on the frequency I guess.

Judging by the look of the CSR, I hope they scrap this SR-130 stuff and go back to emblem ranks and keep a SR 1-50 for number ranks next game. I won't be able to get the Castle map pack so I hope it doesn't screw me over for Team Objective or something.

I didn't pay attention, but are ranks going to be visible on the xbox Waypoint app? I don't want to use smartglass or log onto the site from the Internet when I can just go to the dashboard and load up the app.

Sorry for the double post, but this makes me sad.

Just look at the amount of exposure Call of Duty is going to get, free broadcast live of the championship. It'll cement it's place as the premiere shooter in E Sports and gaming even more. The money, the fame, etc.
