In part it's connected to the overall "Friends" system (recent games etc) so while its easy to comparisons after a match is finished and 'reported', doing it beforehand isn't trivial, but I suspect there's a way to make the manual process of searching for a user (one whose GT you're looking at in the lobby) simpler. I will talk to the web team.

When will we grind for your 50?

Ease of access is going to be essential if you guys at 343 want this to work.

Will you start grinding for your SWAT 50 monday? :J Or what is your go to playlist
Yeah that paywall is going to need one hell of a Hype Train to go through it.
Exactly.

Halo 2 HD with full/untouched multiplayer.

Yeah this would probably the thing that could get me to buy a nextbox in a second!

While you're talking to them, are there plans to make the Smartglass Halo 4 stats app on Windows Phone usable? Surely they could lower the excessive rendering issues since the stats app went live. I don't believe this is a problem on other mobile platforms, so it's still surprising that it's present on MS' own mobile OS.

I'm curious, since the tech seems like it might be related to this problem - what ever happened to the ATLAS stuff? The idea of a live secondary screen for this exact situation sounded really promising if the kinks were worked out, but it seems to have disappeared off the face of the earth.

The app on android was essentially a reskinned web browser the last time I had it downloaded. It was pretty much unusable.

Edit, nvm, they never made an android app after reach - they just point you to the waypoint website. Wow.

Hey this looks pretty cool, how does the framerate hold up?
Budget is nearly tapped out, but the sightlines are fairly short with a couple of exceptions. I really haven't had the chance to playtest many forge maps in 4, so I can't really speak to how different the framerate issues are from Reach.

Yeah Fenix is really great at creating an atmosphere.

I'd expect some more features from him in the future :)

Edit: Take a look at one of his most recent projects.
Dude's got talent for sure. I'm both inspired and depressed at the same time.

As for Halo 5, I'm sure I'll get it, but it may not be a release night pickup like it has been for me since Halo 2. Lots of things about the current game frustrate me, mainly because I can see the gold of the gameplay underneath the layers of unnecessary crap that I wish had never been introduced. I can also see the steps being made by 343 to respond to the intelligent criticisms of the game (even if many feel that it's too little, too late), so I don't have any reason to believe that Halo 5 won't be better than it's predecessor.

One base gets a mancannon, the other gets a sniper. Lol.
Each team gets a sniper.

...the other team gets a gravity lift from the first floor of their base to the second floor. Certain Affinity says it's functionally symmetrical. I have a hard time believing that, or the idea that it will even approach being the best CTF map in Halo's history (wouldn't that require a good CTF variant?). Standoff is functionally symmetrical. This is not.

I really hope they stick to 2v2, 4v4, 8v8 and possibly 16v16 with Halo 5. That and probably 8-way FFA on the 4v4 maps. That way they can actually have time in advance to account for all the different map/playlists. I mean hell, they could even have Certain Affinity handle the extra large (16v16) maps and it would open up the possibility of "blowing up" old BTB maps - that is, pulling a Halo PC and having wide open spaces with more vehicle combat. I know I'd be fine with Certain Affinity reconfiguring Infinity, Relic, Waterworks, something like Death Island, and Gephyrophobia for 16v16.

I agree that 4v4/5v5 or so is best Halo for overal competitiveness, but something arouses me about a 32 on 32 Halo match...

Super big team for Halo 5? (As long as they add many, many more small maps and only a few huge ones).

I actually had an idea for a map that was sort of an Infinity / Blood Gulch crossover that had beam tower bases and was more open like Blood Gulch, but had some of Infinity's structural complexity. That and a sort of "Forerunner shopping mall" in the middle that, when closed off, could function as an independent 2v2 map.

Daybreak looks like a BTB version of a Frankenstein Beaver Creek; not necessarily in a bad way, but in a way that would play infinitely better with one sided, round based, objective gametypes.

Id est, one sided Assault where the bomb starts with the red team in the red base because they have access to the mancannon.

Has the inclusion of these gametypes in a patch or DLC been mentioned at all by 343, not that it would bring me back to the game, but it would offer some improvements to numerous hoppers and the people still playing.

Also, who would like to place bets on the next public announcement that certain employees will no longer be posting in this thread due to hypertension caused by increased levels of salt?

I jest, but really, if there's one thing I've learned since posting way back in 2006 on MLG's since deceased forums, it's that they always come back. No need to announce an absence.

Couldn't agree more.

Or could I?

I believe it was brought up in the bulletin after GDC. The answer was "We have no plans to implement any of that at this time," or something to that effect, so unless we get these through a couple of dedicated guys doing it in their free time a-la Forge Island, we aren't getting them.

I remember someone managed to make a 1 Flag variant by spawning one flag under the map and then setting it up for rounds. It was a few OTs back.

So has there been any hints of more map packs after Castle? It just seems odd that nothing is planned for the rest of the year Halo wise.

Spartan Ops season 2 doesn't count.

I see, well that kinda blows, especially when maps designed to be functionally symmetrical tend to play increasingly lopsided in the hands of seasoned players.

To back this point, 2 Flag Abandon was a launch gametype... Anyone who couldn't see huge discrepancies on the developer side with that gametype is passed saving.

1 Flag Abandon would have had potential, reminiscent of a 1 Flag Lockout match from Halo 2.

But you can't play 1 Flag because... Because.

Im really doubting buying the next xbox, my main reason is Halo and most of my friends are thinking of moving to Ps4 (shared licences games, streaming and Destiny), maybe i will wait for Halo 5 console bundle or something and I dont think I will buy a new console only for Destiny.

Careful who you call out, lest you miss another opportunity at an early map pack code.

If you're into competitive games, PS4 will be the way to go.

Sony also has a knack for supporting the tournament scene (EVO and MLG for example).

I'm waiting to see what MS has to offer before I make any decisions.

It's not even just a launch gametype, that awful combination is still floating around in the CTF playlist along with Complex. Of the thirteen maps in the CTF playlist, only six are truly symmetric. The remaining maps are either obviously asymmetric or, like Solace and Ragnarok, pretend to be functionally symmetric while giving one team a big advantage.

You should wait until what Microsoft has to offer and I guarantee you that Destiny will have exclusive content on the Durango as well. Destiny already looks like the type of game that will emphasize on customization. There will be exclusive armor, weapons, ships, skins, etc. for every retailer and platform. Be ready.

What's more disappointing is that 343 said that they were building maps to tailored to certain gametypes. Thought this meant the return of awesome maps that were always fun to play on.

And while a map like Abandon could be good for some gametypes it was definitely not designed for CTF. Unless it was for One flag which doesn't exist.

If it WAS designed for CTF then that's even more worrisome.

Bring back Pit CTF

don't forget Timberland

Just maybe buy the standard issue this time though.

Imagine if you spent all that you spent on Halo 4 only to be disappointed again.

I was happy with the campaign. I don't know if Ill buy everything this time around (money permitting obviously) my enthusiasm for the series is on the decline and much of what I bought had other factors tied with it.

I needed a new headset
A second slim console for the GF to use
I bought a limited edition for a friend

Just got an idea on how to save halo.

2v2, 4v4, 8v8, 16v16 and 8-way FFA are the only playlist counts. Team Doubles is one playlist, Rumble Pit is another.

2v2 has three maps. All three are a different forge canvas. They all have an on-disc variant that serves as a remake.

4v4 has 4 maps. 8-way FFA also uses these maps.

8v8 has 4 maps.

16v16 has 5 maps made by Certain Affinity. All 5 "Extra Large" maps are remakes, combinations, or spiritual successors, just expanded for 16v16 meaning more of an emphasis on vehicle combat.

Inheritor (Halo Wars Blood Gulch / Infinity / Danger Canyon)

Tearjerker (Waterworks with lava)

Pridelands (Standoff / Timberland on the Brute Homeworld)

Artifact (Relic spiritual successor)

Vertigo (Terminal spiritual successor with an expanded Covenant Spire in the center of the map. It essentially takes place in an ODST-style city under siege)

Here's where things get interesting. Due to improved Forge parity, the extra large maps have elements that can be closed off (as default variants on the disc similar to Reach) to add to the lower-sized map count.

Inheritor has a "Forerunner shopping mall" that can be sealed off for 4v4.

If you seal away certain elements of Tearjerker, it essentially turns into Waterworks 2.0 which can work for 8v8.

Sealing off part of the updated megastructure on Artifact creates a playspace that works for 4v4.

If you seal off a certain part of the Spire on Vertigo, it becomes Midship, which is perfect for 2v2.

So, due to some creative fudging, you essentially have 20 maps:
-5 Small
-5 Medium
-5 Large
-5 Extra Large

When in reality, the game has:
-3 Forge canvases
-8 in-house maps
-5 Certain Affinity maps

Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I think it just might be able to work.
