Should Nintendo just cancel Game & Wario for other regions?

I wonder if the numbers are actually fine given the Wii U's current state. Still, if that's actually a problem...
I think they should make it an eShop title. $30 tops.

Then I might get it
... Then this is what I was thinking. Localization must be cheap/non-existent/already done, and so now the costs are in marketing and distribution. Marketing you'll still want to do, but distribution can be axed just by making it a cheap eShop game, that may even be enough to get some who are on the fence to jump in or those going 'fuck it, how bad can it be?'
Wow. DQX bombed too? Might hurt it's chances of coming to the West.
DQX's a port of an already existing game to a platform that's slowly gaining speed. I doubt it really means much in this case, certainly not an accurate reflection of US sales given it'd be our first release of it.

Is this gonna be a thing in every Wii U related thread from now on?
I'm interested in the system but seems like most Wii U related threads are reduced to jokes and drive-by remarks that add absolutely nothing to the discussion.

That was also the case with the dreamcast, before ps2 even came out, not to mention the few months after that. The press was alos guilty of this.

We're seeing the same thing with Wii U. People just want it to fail, and in any case are just contributing to its downfall.

what the hell, game & wario looks amazing. budget price it or something, there's no reason to not bring content over especially stuff that has limited translation required

Good marketing and it will be fine. The Wario character has that zany appeal that is very appealing to people. Problem is, a Nintendo's overall promotion of Wii U and it's games has been strangely low key.

Why is the answer to all of Nintendo's problems 'good marketing'?

First off, most people don't even know what marketing means. It's the four P's: product, place, price, and promotion. Brand equity can be thrown in as a fifth, but those four are basically it.

Most people use 'promotion' interchangable with marketing here, and promotion itself doesn't solve problems and sell units of any kind. Otherwise every company in history would be a success by simply throwing advertising money at a problem.

This game looks like an extremely niche product, and they should expect niche sales. Wario alone in 2D platformer that would appeal to wider group of people haven't been great sellers either, why should this be expected to do so?

The idiots at Nintendo can manage their own money, they do not need GAF's help.

Clearly, as is testament to the abysmal sales of G&W. This is another example of the kind of games that are perfect for the eShop but not retail. Nintendo needs more games like Lego City. So far on the Wii U all we've seen from Nintendo's own internal studios is NSMBU and Nintendoland. That doesn't instill a lot of confidence in me. This is also considering the last few years we had to endure with the limited Wii releases. Again, what the hell are their internal studios working on?

How about Nintendo provide a release date for it in North America?

It might be because it's a late port of a recent title, combined with the fact the Wii U is a new system (thus tiny install base). Plus you could still play the original version on the Wii U.

In speaking of... anyone have the data of the Wii version's sales?

That's actually worse in my opinion. Losing my rights to resell something I might not like?

Knowing their current account situation for the eShop, if you're not sure you'd like it to begin with, then why take the chance in the first place?

Unless cancelling it will somehow get me pikmin 3/the wonderful101/any of the games I actually care about faster, they might as well localise it, I'm sure *someone* will buy it.

Not me though, I've had enough of minigame collections for a lifetime.

Don't be ridiculous, if you were paying attention, you'd know Wii U owners love late ports of old games! That's why everyones doing them after all!

22k for a 1st week could easily mean 100k lifetime for Japan. And most of the development budget could be considered Wii U development related, as tech demos. There aren't insanely produced cinematics or other such nonsense, so the budget I'm sure was quite modest. And EU and US will likely match those sales figures, making it profitable. Or even if breaking even, a worthwhile venture because the U needs more games, not less.

Localization budgets confuse me. Seems like English in particular is pretty quick to convert in a mostly text based game, and should be happening during development to ensure simultaneous release. That can't be too expensive. Just a guy on staff that can speak Japanese and English. Or Japanese to (insert language here).

It may have been a worthwhile idea to make it eShop only AND sell each mini-game separately. Instead of it being "that one party game," which if $60 many may scoff at, it might have instead appeared that Nintendo pumped out a cool variety of cheap but fun eShop games.

Seriously. WHERE THE FUCK IS PIKMIN 3??!!!!!! It was a Wii game, then moved to Wii U as a launch window title. Fuck Nintendo and their utter lameness at releasing games.

That's what I'm saying, I don't want an $30 eshop only release. If the game bombs at retail, so will it's price. On the eshop, not so much.

They absolutely should not cancel it. I'm buying it day one. It shouldn't be a budget eShop release. Maybe release it for $40. But just release it.

Warioware: Smooth Moves for Wii came out in Japan on December 2, 2006. In its debut week, it sold nearly 64k copies. In the US, the game sold 201k copies during its release in January 2007, and was the 4th best selling game of the month. By its second month, it had dropped down to 8th place with sales of 109k copies.

As for Dragon Quest X's Wii Japanese sales, its sold 367,148 copies in its debut week in August 2012 and ranked 1st on the Media Create software chart. By September 17th, the game had fallen off of the top 10 Media Create chart, and by the end of 2012, the game had sold 633,827k copies.

1) I never said the answer to 'everything' is marketing.

2) Thanks for telling me about the word marketing. I already know, but thanks.

No, it's one of the games I am really looking forward to.

I like using my Wii U as a gathering tool for whenever we have people at home.

It's been great for getting people to play Video Games, and they usually never play.

It's so far removed from the great, early Wario Ware games that I have near 0 interest in this.

The one demo I watched was Iwata playing a Mii stealing fruit in a crowd. It went on for so long and looked like the complete opposite of fun. Completely turned me off to it.

How is this even a fucking thread.

To be fair, Nintendo is starting to get really irritiating with the near-complete radio silence on their Q2 schedule for the Wii U. There really needed to have been a Nintendo Direct two weeks ago with dates for Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, and this game. As it stands, the only major release for the system in April is the port of Injustice.

Maybe nothing is coming out in Q2 so they just decided to hide in their bunker.

This I agree with. They should be reassuring people of the systems future and stirring up interest for those on the fence.

The Wii U hardware and software are selling horribly at this moment in Japan. Game & Wario not selling well isn't surprising or indicative of anything. It's going to take a while for Nintendo to generate momentum.
