If you only watch one video about the Always online Xbox outrage, make it this one.

He's not crying at the end, he's just winded.

He is also right.
Will move to PS4 if these rumors are correct because this is serious business!

Yeah, I have nothing holding me back from going with a PS4, especially with Halo in it's current state. I would have used PS3 as my primary platform this gen, but I hardly know anyone who has one. It looks like a lot of people are supporting the PS4 so far.

This is why it's going to be hilarious come next gen. We will see who truly jumps ship. Then we will see if that number is large enough for people to just jump ship because people they know have done so. After all, they don't want to play alone.

I know people here are maybe more likely to switch, but I'm pretty sure the "MaddenBox" type of gamers wouldn't switch because their achievements and friends are so firmly entrenched.

If the gaming side is anything to go buy, absolutely no one is buying the nextbox because of these rumours and MS will be bankrupt within a year.
not even joking.

So been busy lately and haven't followed Halogaf. Just saw the thread. Love the OT Booties. Great job. Also see everyone is discussing their future gaming choices. Guess we'll all have plenty of DestinyGaf on PS4. Can't wait for the fun to be had there.

I'm still hoping that the unified Bungie account thing will allow me to move my character between Xbox and PlayStation servers. I'd buy multiple copies of the game if it allowed me to play with different friends on different consoles.

One thing that would make me hesitate is my friends. They're not really informed consumers so I can imagine most of them getting the Xbox regardless of press ( depending on price ).

The other is the controller - I simply can't get used to the Sony layout. I assume custom controllers or adapters will solve that issue eventually.

Well one console hasn't even been announced yet, so it's to be expected. And the rumors that come in, really make the nextbox unappealing to a lot of gamers.

Always online has all but been confirmed etc.

I'm not going to go far as to make premature judgements about the consoles, but I'd say so far, PS4 has the momentum and it's hard to think about a scenario where the nextbox bests it.

But, we just never know. We still don't have final specs, price points, exclusive games and new IP's.

The only people saying that are those who wouldn't buy the next Xbox if it came with Jessica Alba. Everyone else is still skeptical as they should be.

What confuses me is how could they think making it always online is a good idea.

Well to them it is but not to the customers.

At first I was thinking that way, my system is always connected so I shouldn't have to worry too much about always online. Then a friend made me realize that we are no longer owners of those games. Whenever MS decides to shut down servers for the games, they are useless. Who knows if and when they may do such a thing, So in a sense those games will now be temporary, and we can only play them as long as MS allows us to. I have a pretty large collection of 360 games and it would really suck for the whole collection to be completely worthless because MS decided to shut down the servers.

But then again these are still rumours, we will have to wait for the official announcement before I make any decisions.

That's a good point about your library not being permanent forever and it eventually being worthless down the line. At this point, it really is up to whether we love Halo enough to buy a console with these policies.

The console's online only until you get a Gold LIVE subscription for the low, low price of $200 a year or $1600 for 5 years.

If I were even going to get the new consoles, I would probably get the PS4. But since I'm not joining next-gen for a while, if at all, I don't have to worry.

Halo-related: I played Lightning CTF for the first time yesterday. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. Gets pretty hectic on Simplex!

I sure will be happy to get some actual, concrete details about the new xbox, because THESE PRETZELS ARE MAKING ME THIRSTY!!!

The map itself looks good, but I don't understand why they decided one vehicle needed 5 weapons to counter it. You already spawn with counters...

Unfortunately, the balance will never be changed even when people abuse it. This will be the first Halo I haven't bought DLC on at all :/

EDIT: Scratch that, I won the 2 Reach map packs for free, but I still had every one all the way back to Halo 2.

Why are they trying to "ground" you in an environment that you would never be realistically fighting in anyway (circumjacent to a melting reactor. Seriously?)

There's nothing wrong with giving your map good aesthetics set pieces.

The issue ultimately comes down to how much of your design was focused on it over the layout and balance though. It wont matter how good it looks if it plays like shit.

Counters to a Warthog is a sword, interesting.

Don't read below if you don't like CoD/Competitive Gaming

It's ridiculous just how big this event has turned out to be. Even my 11 and 7 year old cousins knew about it because of the xbox Live ads, and they said they'd watch. Doesn't help that they view Black Ops II as a better and more fun game than Halo 4. All they like in Halo 4 is grifball and action sack.

Such a missed opportunity for Halo, more sad than upset since I loved watching the hell out of MLG Halo 2 and Halo 3 events.

We're going to see a new group of pro players get the spotlight on them, and they'll be around for next gen too.

hahaha Holy shit. Nice.

So, assuming Halo has run its competitive course, and Call of Duty will probably lose steam in similar fashion, do you guys think the next big competitive console shooter will be a new IP or one that already exists?

How is call of duty probably going to lose its steam? I feel it's just getting started. Look how Treyarch added streaming options, competitive playlists, actively courted MLG players.

to be fair, there are 20,000 people online right now for halo.

there's 25,000+ watching a countdown for a blops tourney though.

edit: little less then 22k for halo 4. little less than 29k for blops stream.

But 7' tall futurehumans in space armor kind-of-but-not-really killing each other is a perfectly realistic expectation. ;-)

Competitive Halo isn't dead 343 just forgot their importance hence they are busy playing other games. Your premise sentences are incorrect. Protip for 343 look how many people watch n play in this CoD tournament n how many people are in your game.

Wow. More people waiting to watch a game than are actually playing the supposed main competitor.
And yet I still want to get home and vote for some lighting CTF.

Competitive gaming isn't dead. CoD is a lot different than Halo, so it's possible that number would be less for Halo in similar circumstance (at least now considering that similar or greater digits were being put up during MLG streams last year).

I do agree though. The idea that it was "1%" of the population as 343 said before launch is simply not true.
