Just saw the first episode and I think it was very good and looking forward to the next episode.

To the people saying it gets worse does it like get worse as say as Narutaru kind of fucked up or Bokurano type of depression? Kitoh's works are the ones that come to mind when I hear it gets worse. *_*

Should be put to work in a coal mine.
Quick question : Is this Anime gory? Saw some pics from the manga and it looks kind of disturbing.

I think it's less depressing than Kitoh's work purely based on the fact a bittersweet ending is still possible.

Oh that's cool, I do hope they'll aim for that kind of ending because the way I see it the world in AoT is very depressing as it is.

On a side note I knew there was something off whenever Eren yells, as I just found out after looking at ANN, its the same guy who did Shu from GC, but based on the 1st ep. I have high expectations for Eren.

I was happy with how the first episode turned out. Araki's involvement with the show worried me, but the first episode was at least a good debut. The strength of the source material should help keep this show going.

I enjoyed this. I kinda want to read the manga after watching that first episode, I've just started to get back into watching anime recently.

I stopped watching anime after Gurren Laggan [I saw not point in continuing... that was the highpoint that nobody will reach :D ], but I saw ep1 of AoT.

Its OK. I will continue watching.

Good first episode, pretty much followed the manga so it wasn't that surprising. I haven't read the manga so hopefully this is get better and better.

Read the title description and chuckled.

Watched the first elisode and realized how dead on the description was while watching the opening. Good show, shame it's not picked up by crunchyroll. Reminded me slightly of Gantz final phase with the giants, but it seems to have much more depth so far. I can only imagine the original writer thought up the premise in an alcohol induced dream.

I want more.

Only drawback is that the episode ended too soon.

I do agree that nothing will ever top Gurren Lagann in any medium, but there has been good stuff since then.

Though this is a pretty good series to get back into anime with.

Saw the first episode and checked the manga. Looks like a damn good adaptation and the animation in the show is pretty neat. There's some weird overly dramatic moments, but it looks great. Looking forward for more of it.

I just finished the first episode:

This first episode gave me a very heavy Berserk vibe, in its tone and its setting. I really love this first episode. I am not too surprised, since I am a big fan of the director's other work, High School of the Dead. I somewhat want to move on and read the manga, but I am going to resist that urge and continue to watch the anime. I have been looking for a new spring show, and this has entered my list for the season.

...Let's hope this doesn't become another Guilty Crown.

I haven't watched any anime in ages and decided to take the plunge on this one just by the virtue of that one gif posted above. I like what I saw in the first episode. Not groundbreaking, but definitely interesting.

I have a question about the manga: do the author's drawing skills improve? I read a bit of the first chapter and his character perspectives are borderline amateurish.

Yes, the art gets better as the series progresses, but then the writing gets worse. :(

It's always one or the other, ain't it?

Well, not really, but... yeah. Bummer. I'll keep on reading it and see where it takes me for now.

after the op i got the manga..mmm its not very good, very repetitive, yeah the concept is nice (its like a nightmare) but thats all, almost 4 tomes and still doing the same thing

YMMV I guess, I love what is happening right now.
I can see why some people dislike recent events though.

The worst thing about the writing is how he puts together the story honestly. It just uses convoluted fast-foward + flashback techniques which only serve to make certain events more "shocking" than they actually are, but without any benefit to actual narrative flow. It's a cheap technique which the author recycles over and over, and it becomes more laughable when he decides to reveal something surprising in every other chapter and does so in really stupid ways.

You'll be happy to know duckroll is somewhat in the minority, at least in manga-gaf. Not to say you won't share his opinion, but plenty of people are still very intrigued by what is currently going on.

I've known about the manga for quite a while now and have been meaning to read it after all the hype. After seeing this first episode, I'm definitely going to get right on that. I thought it was pretty good, really love the thick lines in the art and the action looked well animated. Looking forward to see more.

You really got the feel or sense of dread and hopelessness from the atmosphere and hearing that it subverts some shonen tropes definitely has me excited.

Woah forgot this was going to receive an anime adaption. Should probably watch the first episode soon and hope it's being faithful to the original source. Loved this manga ever since it came out though I haven't read anything for a year or so now.

Everything looks really cool and the premise is great.
But does there really need to be so much drama and screaming?
Anyway, will continue to watch, thanks for the thread OP!

Araki is the director of Death Note and Highshcool of the Dead. The man only knows "drama". :p

Wow, way to shit on the excitement duck, geez
joking, kinda

I disagree though. I still really like the story, and I 'enjoy' reading it. The only annoyance would be the pacing, which, coupled with the fact that it's (bi?)monthly, makes it a little frustrating sometimes. I don't think that'll be a problem in the anime though.

To be fair I'm not expecting great writing from the director of death note and hsotd.:p as long as he brings the DRAMA. The goods will be delivered.

Manga is like 43 chapters, and ep1 takes part of first two. So, i guess if they make it without fillers and water, then it'll be probably 1 season for all chapters.

I'm guessing they'll end it at right about chapter 34, assuming they don't take the original ending route.

Well it's not like Araki wrote the manga. Yasuko Kobayashi seems to be pretty good at writing adaptations, and apparently Isayama has some input on the anime as well, so I imagine it will be fairly faithful to the manga. Whether that's a good thing or not is for you to decide.

Isn't this show basically evangelion?

Humans matched up against choatic evil monsters in a losing battle, and the only hope are fellow humans that can fight the monsters on equal footing by becoming one?

I liked episode one. I hope it becomes darker.
