Microsoft, likely.
People just seem to prefer being nickel and dimed as opposed to doing some simple addition and buying the console that offers more at a better price.
Just waiting until the Xbox Fanboys wake up.
Did not mean to come off like that. Just felt like people are just itchy to go with their gut rather than consider actual reality of the industry. I'm all for discussion .
Thing is, without Microsoft, Sony wouldn't even have to try any more. We would end up with launch PS3 levels of shitness.
god of war and uncharted are classic IPs now?
To be fair, the question at hand is, "If the industry asked you"
The PS2 is the direct result of Sony not having competitionPeople forget the calamity launch of the PS3 and the developers' hatred for producing games on it is the direct result of Sony having no competition.
Using "M$" instead of "MS" seems childish to me.
Nintendo helped build the industry, and Sony took it mainstream.
Microsoft gave us paid services, faulty hardware, Kinect, and killed Rare.
Yeah, Microsoft.
Lol, good point. However one has to see how MS was able to capture the NA consumer. If there wasn't something unique that MS was able to provide, wouldn't Sony and Nintendo boast equal attach rates in NA?Yes, because the customers that buy games on a Microsoft platform would be too struck with grief to move onto a Sony platform.
Using "M$" instead of "MS" seems childish to me.
Not only would the industry not miss Microsoft, I think it would be healthier if it was down to just Sony and Nintendo.
LOL.All M$ has given us is Halo and even that started as a Mac game and is no longer of any value.

Just put (Microsoft) in the title already.
Not only would the industry not miss Microsoft, I think it would be healthier if it was down to just Sony and Nintendo.
Microsoft.
Also isn't Gears IP owned by Epic and not Microsoft?
But then Halo would get tossed off to some new studio who would ruin it. OH WAITMicrosoft. Then Nintendo can buy back all the old Rare IPs for dirt cheap and Grant Kirkhope can make his dream Banjo-Threeie for the Wii U.
Yup.Microsoft.
Also isn't Gears IP owned by Epic and not Microsoft?
Not really, during the PS1/PS2 generation Sony had almost no competition and yet both were a very great consoles.
Dangit you're right, my bad. That is indeed what the thread title states. Still interesting to see people's answers from both view points.Got ya, misinterpreted the question posed as industry would miss the least.
If MS is M$ than Sony must be -$ony
These consoles all got something in common tooYou've never heard of the N64? The Sega Saturn? Dreamcast? Gamecube? Etc etc
I think the industry would be healthier with just one console.
Sonys arguably the most relevant console maker currently.
