Can someone tell me if their are girl giants in this anime because i could have sworn some of the giants looked like girls.
Especially the one who ate the MC's mom,
because it definitely looked like a girl.

Yes there are female giants

The giants don't have genitals IIRC, so they are not technically "girl giants". Some do have girl facial features, though.

So, it dawned upon me that Eren's "dream" in the first episode wasn't actually in the manga. This, along with the priest added to the city scenes in the introduction might be some of the "original material" which they were talking about. It seems the anime is enjoying the liberty to foreshadow stuff even more than the manga does.

I can't say I recognize every single thing in the dream sequence though, anyone else want to take a shot at it? (Remember, mark ALL spoilers carefully, especially if there's any manga discussion in here, since lots of people probably haven't read the manga).

In sequence:

Episode 1 spoiler:
It's pretty clear that the last two scenes right before he wakes up is actually a vision of what happens at the end of the episode when his mother is taken and eaten. So... is the entire dream a vision of what is to come in the anime in reverse order? :)

I got some Muv-Luv Alternative vibes from that scene. (which i read inspired the mangaka?)

The part with the toys is the most interesting, but i can't locate it.

Is this one of those anime that is being censored on broadcast TV but will have a uncensored blu/DVD release?

While I don't doubt there will be some changes for the home release, it's still rather violent. No rays of light or obscured imagery if that's what you're referring to at any rate.

Well I watched the show.

It was good. A little slow in the first episode but I guess it's to be expected. The Titan designs really creep me out, except for the really big one who just looks comical; I suppose it's that guy looked generally angry at humanity whereas the rest of them looked like they were just going about their days, casually eating humans alive, which is just weirder. The main character needs to learn to use his indoor voice more often. That is all.

Saw the first episode in my club screenings today. I'm sold, at least for another few episodes. Solid direction, an interesting-seeming world, and those motherfucking titans.

Now everytime I see them whip out their blades I would think it they're whipping out oversized penknife blades.

I searched through this thread for robots or mechs and the word hasn't come up. Are they really fighting these giants without giant robots? Like they just riding around in horses with grappling hooks?

Yes... ?
That's why it's more exciting, they really are vulnerable.
Robots don't really belong to the setting.

I doubt they have giant robots back in the middle ages. The only thing high tech is the 3d manuever gear.

I just stumbled upon this thread and read a bit of the OP. Was surprised their are no robots in this anime considering the threat. But it's good to have a new take on battle gigantic foes.

As for robots in the middle ages, they could have done something like Escaflowne mechs, just saying.

Judging by the very size of this thread it looks like we've reached a critical mass for this property. Interesting, if not entirely unexpected.

Now I really hope that this doesn't turn out to be a crappy adaptation (or a crappy story in general) now that Branduil has wheeled in so many followers.

Once again the one show, one thread format is vindicated.

The 11th volume of the manga will also have a limited edition packaged with an OAD DVD based on chapter 18.5 of the manga - "Ilse's Notebook". It comes out on August 9. Same staff as the TV anime.

I wondered if they were going to adapt that chapter; it's actually kind of important.

Well, it's one of the most popular manga in Japan, and has an appealing and easily understood premise without any serious cultural barriers that could hinder its international appeal, so it's certainly not surprising if it's popular worldwide. Which makes the production committee's decisions to block all English simulcasts all the more bizarre.

That's good news if it's true, and it seems unlikely funimation would upload that art to their website if it wasn't.

[QUOTE="God's Beard!";53089989]Good job on the OP, you probably spent more time making it than the author did planning the story for this garbage. I'm really interested to see people's inevitable, inenviable spiral into despair as this thing that starts out as bad-art Gantz fails to meet even the most basic storytelling expectations. It's transparent, it's derivative and generally of low quality, but in such a starved environment I imagine that it'll see mixed-to-positive success.

Happy viewing, everyone! Hopefully some of you last long enough to shit up the manga thread with the best of them.

Well, that's helped bring me down to earth. I understand a few manga readers share a similar opinion but you never know, this might be one of the times where the adaptation is superior to the original!

Don't look at me like that. It happens!

GB standards are pretty high. Dont let it get in the way of your enjoyment.

God's Beard is always trolling the manga so...

I wouldn't take GB as the consensus here. The guy is pretty damn bitter toward certain series. I think the only stuff I've seen him praise consistently is Asano stuff and Prison School.

I've finished catching up with the manga now, just one chapter to go. The premise remains good, but the
character
twists are beyond idiotic. Chapter 42, what the fuck.

Welcome to my world. :(

I think the action will remain really exciting to see animated, but the plot developments are just soooooo stupid now. >_<

Actually it's been foreshadowed for a long time now. One guy from another forum managed to predict the plot a year before it happen and was 100% correct.

Yeah, I don't quite understand the surprise at certain plot revelations. Once a certain event happens early on in the manga, it's really not hard to see coming. Enough about that, though.

Just because something is foreshadowed doesn't mean it's not stupid though. It also depends on how things are revealed and in the story. Sorry, but the last 10-20 chapters in the manga were just stupid and poorly written.

Reading the manga is reminding me of a tv show called The Following I watched for a little while before it became ridiculous. edit: not so minor spoilers dun read!
At first it was kinda creepy when it was just a few of them but now it seems like every one is a damn titan in hiding. Same as in the tv show where first it was the wife's 2 gay neighbors, the nanny, the security guard and 2 swat team members who are serial murderers in deep cover.. that is when I stopped watching

I think we should wait for at least cursory explanations before calling them stupid.

I just caught up with the manga and all I can say is "meh" MANGA SPOILERS
I have a feeling the creator isn't going to reveal the nature of the Titans for any time soon. And I like how that one guy says "Hey dude, I'm the Colossal Titan that totally fucked up Wall-Maria. Come hang out with us bro." That is some great writing right there /sarcasm. Actually, depending on how it was done, such an anticlimactic reveal would have been cool. But the way it was pulled off was just... meh. Also, it seems like everyone is a goddamn Titan.

I hope the show goes in a different route.

I will say that the first part of the manga is pretty bleak, unnerving, and great.

I don't have to because my primary issue is not the actual "twists" but rather how the narrative is being delivered. I don't find the delivery to be exciting or surprising, just stupid. Nothing they explain in the future will change the fact that I think the events in the chapters are stupid.

I think the anime is going to be relatively faithful to the manga.

I was thinking yesterday, and you know, instead of ending the season on ch34, they might end it at around ch30 instead. If they plan on having another 25 episode season in April next year, there would be enough material to do another 30 chapters by then.
