Adam Orth no longer with Microsoft

I don't care what happens really. I don't pay much attention to people on Twitter or any of the gaming "press" to begin with. But if folks here want to fuck with him, whatever. I just sit and watch a so-called professional act like a complete idiot.

And that is all anyone ever needs to do. Somehow Gaf has taken on this evil spectre image in some people in the industry's minds... Let them fight against shadows while we as an audience gobble it up. Beats the shit out of prime time TV anyways.

I'm getting Dyack vibes.
What's with the theme at Polygon people where they say something, it backfires, then they blame everyone else for being bullies.

If you don't want to take responsibly for the things you say, or expect any sort of discussion around it, don't say it.

Nope, it's not Aegies, it's gaf. Ever wonder why Che Chou, Adam Greenberg, Cliffyb, and a bunch of other people have said they don't like gaf?

Why becuase we call them out on their bullshit? Why hate somebody that is calling you out when you are clearly wrong? Acting smug and saying Gaf is dumb because they shot my theory down and proved why it was/or is wrong is kinda childish.

Stop...what exactly?

Even though I don't agree with Arthur Geise on most things, the hatred GAF sends his way is blown way out of proportion 100% of the time. When you have 4 or 5 threads dedicated to hating you on the frontpage of GAF at all times, GAF is just takin' the piss.

I mean seriously, jump in a Polygon thread. Any Polygon thread, whether the reporting is good or bad. It devolves into a Giese hate thread within 3 posts and STAYS THAT WAY. It's silly, and THAT does need to stop.

The way GAF treats most people with press prominence is similar to how most people treat the person who shot their dog in their fictional childhood they never had. Vilified with white hot anger that cannot be sated because...review scores, or a bad quote.

He didn't deserve to lose his job for what happened. He didn't even deserve a suspension.

I hate how powerful people feel because they can scream on the internet, and I hate how powerful companies make them by giving in. Had MS waited a month barely anyone would even remember his name.

He was antagonizing Microsoft customers in a tweeter account clearly marked as a microsoft employee. He was representing Microsoft. Microsoft doesn't like his customers being laughed at by their employees.

It's not like an anonymous tweeter account for this is hard to obtain.

Other victims of the internet under Arthur Gies definition:

Judge Richard Cebull, a disgraced judge that was forced to resign after sending e-mails joking that Barack Obama's father was a dog.

e2AC11J.png

The Steubenville Rapists, who recorded their crime on video which leaked on to the internet (at least Gies isn't alone on thinking this is someone else's fault?)

e2AC11J.png

Anthon Weiner, former Representative who tweeted his penis to a young lady, which he absolutely would not have done if not for twitter existing and women on twitter being hot. Shame on you, internet.

Is it possible for this guy to be any more insufferable?

Seriously though what does Gies need to do to get fired from Polygon? He constantly brings bad publicity to the site either through his unbelievable twitter rants or through horrible reviews (or allowing horrible reviews to go up, he is the reviews editor after all) and yet it seems like he's bulletproof. The guy's the Isiah Thomas of game journalists.

Because he never fails to weigh in on the wrong side of stories like this, and he somehow always manages to vilify gamers for the actions of others.

he's really even worse at twitter than Orth is, maybe that's why he sympathizes so hard. so much lack of tact.

Is there a media outlet that didn't report on it after it blew up on GAF? Kinda strange that GAF gets the blame (or credit) but he's not looking at the enthusiast sites and tech blogs that made regular forum wankery into news.

Well, he was basically called out by EviLore during the Notch thing some time ago. Someone else probably has the picture, but I think Gies thinks the whole forum is against him and his often baffling stances.

It's not baffling. Gies is a little man trying to make a name for himself by being a contrarian. His game is pretty obvious and, apparently, effective by the amount of attention he gets here.

Can we not compare Gies to Dyack? I mean at least Dyack provided the gaming community with some quality content before he went off the deep end.

Polygon is run by a boys club of game blogger friends, nobody will ever get fired there.

Of course Arthur doesn't like GAF we've mostly done nothing but shit on the guy since we first heard of him. Deservedly so, but I can't expect him to say anything nice about us.

Twitter guidelines for anyone that has influence/is part of something.

Reply only posts of gratitude. Ignore the rest like they don't exist. You pick a wrong fight and you may be done.

I understand the principle of getting rid of him for the corporation good and saving face. Still, I guess he went a bit overboard, but under pressure some people snap. Unless you tell me that he started insulting right off the bat, which doesn't sound proportionate but possible.

I agree, but when he opens his mouth, in this case tweets something, then he is open to criticism. But I agree the whole "he is stupid" posts need to stop.

Shitty situation really. Dude made a handful of stupid tweets during his lunch break, half of which were jokes addressed directly (@ mention's) to one of his close friends. Then it gets screencap'd and posted out of context and blows up into some huge internet shit storm with meme pics and his firing.

Yeah ultimately it's his fault, but damn it must suck to lose your job over some dumb tweets especially when you've got a family to feed.

How about you come here and defend your positions Artie? Oh, you'd rather listen to your twitter echochamber and not have to deal with "the internet".

Real talk: he loves the attention.

He also owes someone here $10 and has yet to say a single word about it..

No because gaf has a holier than thou attitude, is condescending, and entitled.

They all have said things that made asses out of themselves, and GAF calls them out on it.

Hey Gies.

If a man make stupid comments about his companies' products and pisses off lots of people, THEN gets fired for it, and you blame the Internet....

Well then, you deserve what you get on GAF, because that was stupid.

Degrading and minimizing your readers and their opinions is the real "new games journalism", of course. Mr. Gies is just doing his job and doing it well. The man deserves a raise, in fact.

What does this guy even do? Does Gies ever do anything on Twitter besides moan? I don't know him at all and yet I see him constantly in twitter feeds moaning.
