Adam Orth no longer with Microsoft

I dont know how your morals work people, but being assaulted for stating a stupid opinion is some sort of bullying, let alone spreading so others join the mockery. Congratulations to everyone that digged further into the wound to make sure he snapped, you proved worthy of the unnatural selection legion.

he should have known better? No doubt. Is there any depth of justice on this case? no. This wasn't ocean marketing fiasco, it was a guy being mildly dumb with some bad analogies. You know what that would translate if applied on GAF right? (lol).

The justice is that he lost his job for his big mouth and sending insulting tweets to people that said they did not have high speed internet, and told them "why do you live there"? Now if he would have just shut his mouth then he would probably still have a job, but insulting them asking "why do they live there"? is neither his business, or how a employee should ever act to potential customers.

Also he was representing MS on his twitter page, that right there means you are a mouthpiece for your employeer.

"Deal with it" can be abided, but "Why on earth would I live there?" blows my mind. That's a good excuse for MS to fire him if I ever heard one.

oh god lets not turn another thread about Gies.

Too late. He brought it on himself anyway.

The internet could use one less sycophantic, pussy ass apologist anyway. If he wants to destroy his career by waging a war against GAF, then so fucking be it.

Gies lives in his own little fairytale land and any attempt to reason with him is impossible if it does not flow with the narrative he creates.

Dude needs to pull his head out of his ass

A tweet is a published broadcast on a media channel. At a high level, unless your Twitter is protected, there is no different between an individual tweeting their personal opinion on something, or getting an open letter published in the NY Times.

I think people get wrapped up in their little echo chamber bubble of friends and followers, and forget that the rest of the internet can also see their posts. Even if you have a back-and-forth between friends, if their tweets are open, it's not a private conversation, but a broadcast to the world.

Another example is a real world conversation between friends in public. If you're shouting your views to teach other and bystanders hear and take offence, you can't claim they've misconstrued a private conversation. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you're free of consequences of your stated views, just that you can make them in the first place.

Why don't people just ignore him? It's obvious he gets a kick out of people posting about him here so why give him what he wants?

Why does Arthur Gies have to run his mouth so often? If he would just be quiet he would stop getting himself intertwined into these stupid things and not talked shit about so often here on GAF and other places.

Pretty easy rule of thumb about personal public communications when working at a large company:

1. Don't talk publicly about anything your have confidential information.
2. Don't talk publicly about anything that a reasonable person might assume you have confidential information on, even if you don't.

Don't really feel bad for him at all as he did this to himself. You're always representing your employer whether you like it or not, so don't even joke about things that could make your employer look bad, which it did for a few days .

So he becomes yet another Twitter casualty. Unfortunately it seems like posting dumb shit on Twitter affects everyone on Earth except Arthur Gies.

There is no war to be had. We're not evangelists or crusaders dude...

I know, tell me about it. That's just like straight up offensive. The guy is obviously a self-absorbed egotistical maniac, and that is exactly the kind of guy you don't want working for you precisely because they're so unpredictable.

He's managing that perfectly well himself with all the stupid shit that he comes out with. Noone needs to do a thing.

He didn't deserve to lose his job for what happened. He didn't even deserve a suspension.

I hate how powerful people feel because they can scream on the internet, and I hate how powerful companies make them by giving in. Had MS waited a month barely anyone would even remember his name.

Is Arthur a troll at this point, or does he actually believe the shit coming out of this mouth?

Well no, that's totally true. It really is too bad what happened to Adam Orth as sometimes we all try to make points in our own unique ways and end up looking foolish. But his is going to COMPLETELY fuck up that dude's life. New career, probably new city, completely new way of living...because of twitter drama.

It's too bad. But it's also hardly outrageous or unexpected.

remember someone was fired from dtoid because he bad mouthed felicia day. that "expressed opinions is my own " shit is pointless on twitter

Nope, it's not Aegies, it's gaf. Ever wonder why Che Chou, Adam Greenberg, Cliffyb, and a bunch of other people have said they don't like gaf?

Yes I do know. That's why I said he should've known better. At the end of the day a man is a man, and can make mistakes. This was honestly very provocative and saying it was good that they applied "corporate" measures to get rid of him and later blame corporations for being "corporate" on their relationship with developers (fired upon project end, not meeting expectations) and users alike (enforcing all sorts of EULA and all that stuff) is nothing short of hypocrite.

I'd say people are more saying that it was the most logical conclusion considering what he did, than it is praising Microsoft flexing that corporate muscle.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
No, its not. When you're in a high up position and act like an ass clown alienating your potential customers expressing your PoV you deserve to get fired. He was an idiot for doing what he did and I'm glad MS took the proper steps to separate themselves from his views. You can't say "that's not what we believe" while still keeping someone in a key position publicly expressing those beliefs and have your denial hold any weight.

It's not up to you who deserves to get fired, unless those people are 1) breaking the law while on the job, or 2) under your supervision. I don't think Orth was right to do what he did, but it's not within my purview (or anyone's here) to say that he should or should not be fired for doing it.

Losing a job is not a slap on the wrist. People have publicly apologized and retained their jobs for doing worse.

I don't care what happens really. I don't pay much attention to people on Twitter or any of the gaming "press" to begin with. But if folks here want to fuck with him, whatever. I just sit and watch a so-called professional act like a complete idiot.

He's managing that perfectly well himself with all the stupid shit that he comes out with. Noone needs to do a thing.

And basically, this

I laugh whenever I see it in someone's Twitter bio in a serious way. It's like they think it gives them a license to say whatever they want on Twitter

They don't like GAF... (With the exception of Greenburg) but sure love posting on it.

How about you come here and defend your positions Artie? Oh, you'd rather listen to your twitter echochamber and not have to deal with "the internet".

Real talk: he loves the attention.

I don't get why people are celebrating a guy losing his job. Especially over a stupid internet rant

It's not for a rant it's for openly showing contempt for the people who support the business he works for.

Also man EAgies really needs to stop using twitter, every time he opens his mouth an avalanche of stupid comes pouring out.

Evilore, now that's a man with some business sense.

He'd think twice before limiting membership to people in California and New York.

Maybe he should take Orth's job.

So if the NextBox isn't always online how will everyone feel about this

I would say either Microsoft backpedaled on their always online plan (assuming one existed at all, or that they could even change it this far into development), or Orth put them in a really bad light for no good reason and his firing is all the more justified.
