EDGE: "Meet NeoGAF, the hardcore community shaping the games media agenda"

GAF is great.

It's also one of the most tightly moderated forums I've ever been registered on. Possibly the tightest. I can never help but think those who claim it to be some wasteland of backlash or unfair criticism are those who have either been banned or can't handle some of the critical discourse that takes place on here.

Wait...........so what we say here actually changes the industry?

So where is the Dreamcast 2?

And why is zynga still around?

We don't have those kind of powers but if someone says something about it, we can get him fired apparently

I wasn't aware recent activities got someone fired. When you have influence though that's on hell of a likely outcome.

Also props to Evillore staying honest when panties are being thrown at him err I mean $$$$.

I like how we're blamed for getting that guy fired. Like we hacked into his private emails and leaked the conversation or something, when all we did was be the first major place to copy and paste his PUBLIC twitter conversation.

I prefer the somewhat "underground" nature of NeoGAF as it is now where industry leaders/actors come anonymously or almost and where the truth emerges from PR bullshit. I'm not sure publicity is something that could be beneficial to the community, aside from financial considerations of course.

BOW BEFORE YOUR SOURCE OVERLORDS GAME JOURNALISTS!

Oh, you all decided to run with articles about obscure twitter posts from some dude at MS that nobody's heard of and now he's fired? Our bad...

Detective-GAF is mighty impressive. I personally think that because of what happened last week with the "always online" ordeal, we are now seeing Microsoft intentionally leak info to keep gamers at bay from creating negative news. All thanks to Detective-GAF.

Not sure if just for GAF , basically all the media was leaking lots of rumors , MS needed to stop them somehow.

Responsibility ages people.

Lmao we're responsible for that jackass getting fired, when he's the one to go on the internet and blab like an idiot.

and brought them to the games media’s attention, prompting an apology and now, apparently, has played its part in someone actually losing their job.

Yet surprisingly no one will make an article about how the media was the one partly mostly responsible for him being fired. After all, they were the ones that took the madness out of a random gaming forum and put it out there for the world to see and made Microsoft pay attention.

It would be nice to be the game media for once: just an entity with no power in itself, effects or responsibilities, and always on the sidelines.

This hivemind association shit is terrible.

And I can't help but feel like this piece attempts to soften Adam's contribution to his own sacking with generalizations of what actually happened in that thread.

Everyone admits he fucked up. His superiors obviously thought it was enough to have him resign.

HOW IS THAT OUR PROBLEM?

I don't think disallowing "discourse that resembles Youtube comments" is even close to the truth but I probably hang out in all the wrong threads. Or, I guess, people who can do something about it aren't reading the wrong threads in the right contexts.

Where once it sat outside looking in, it is becoming part of the games media it derides so heavily. So why do NeoGAF’s discussions so often revolve around the games media’s presumed corruption, or incompetence?
The article was really well-written, but this is a silly thing to ask. I guess it just sounded deep or something so he wrote it.

Whether or not news outlets pull information from GAF does not define GAF. The games media is corrupt and incompetent, but they pull information from GAF a lot - so what does that say about GAF!? ...nothing

Even if it did, it's not our job to be fair or competent.

Can we change our screen name but keep our history.

Neogaf has been better lately because E.L. & company are less strict with the ban hammer.

neogaf is nowhere near as bad as /v/. It was probably /v/ that got him fired. /v/ was really up in arms about this, and a lot of folks there were looking hard to ruin him.
