Couldn't care less about shitty 3D with cross talk and the necessity to hold the system JUST SO. For me, it adds nothing to games. No need to feel sorry for somebody for an optional, and useless to some, feature.
No need to be annoyed by such a feature then either, right?

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Are you saying it was hard to notice something because the graphics were crummy? I don't ever remember getting stuck anywhere in ALttP. The game trains you to look for hints or get familiar with the way things are hidden. Usually when you get stuck, you feel silly about how obvious something was later on. That's not the game's fault.

Yeah, pretty much. And also, if there was a point on the map that you hadn't been in a Zelda game, it was probably a pretty good idea to go there.

More game design like LttP would be a great thing. It's pretty much perfect, imo.

No need to be annoyed by such a feature then either, right?

Sure, if it causes one headaches or creates blurry visuals, why wouldn't one be annoyed?

I don't get your point.

Me: I wonder how this looks in 3D. GAH MY EYES, THIS SUCKS.

::turns 3D off::

Me: Much better. Glad I don't have to suffer through that atrociousness to enjoy the gameplay of this game I want to play.

I don't think one can honestly say the last two handheld Zeldas were cheap in any way. A lot of people didn't like the DS games due to the stylus controls or overworld concept. But they were "big budget" for handheld games. Very long. Full of original art assets, music, and lots of locations.

They were big games and a lot of effort was put into them.

Actually, even the 3DS re-release of Ocarina wasn't a cheap port. They did a heck of a lot of work on that to optimize the game engine and improve models and textures.

The lifeless overworlds coupled with the generic looking dungeons in PH (and ST to a lesser extent) gave them a very cheap look and feel that wasn't present in the previous handheld games imo. I just feel like the imagination and creativity is missing from handheld Zeldas now :(

I don't feel this at all, sadly.

And it's not just the graphics, even though I really don't like that style from what we've seen so far. It reminds me of a graphical combination of Phantom Hourglass and ALttP which is not a good thing in my book. It also seems to be zoomed in too closely for my liking and Link appears to be moving quite slow for some reason.

But more importantly, the gameplay concepts being introduced in this one don't excite me at all. To the contrary, I find them off-putting. A sequel to ALttP is fine and dandy, I guess, but I don't want to revisit the overworld again. Nope. Exploration has always been an important reason why I like the Zelda series so much and I don't feel like walking through a world that's already known to me again. What's the point of that? I seriously hope they are expanding and redesigning a lot of it...

I'm not expecting that, though. It's quite fitting for a handheld Zelda game to have a lazy overworld -- after all, Nintendo already searched for ways to have as minimal an overworld as possible in Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass. Seems like the team is continuing that tradition.

Secondly, these height and depht features Nintendo likes to introduce in their 3DS games are the worst features ever to my mind. I don't see the point of it. I also don't see the point of a Zelda dungeon with 12 floors like shown in the trailer -- I guess we're going to see really small floors that we are switching all the time, since they somehow feel the need to introduce height to the series. I think this might actually hurt the experience -- and I'm very vary about the general quality, since the trailer makes me suspect that it's being made by the same people who made the mediocre DS games.

Also, it seems like they are further streamlining the series. We've already seen that arrows seem to be infinite, and I guess the same will be true for all usable items. That doesn't seem to be something I want.

The changed the big rock into 2 "8 rocks"

Cancels preorder.

The other area shown in the eShop trailer is near the Bumpkin house just above that. The magic tree grew back and there are some extra tree stumps/stumps moved.

well the trailer was good but i wish it was a new world

i played link to the past so much that i feel like it wont be as fun exploring the world, but glad its getting made.

dat zelda though, B^)

Cos you're annoyed by the main visual effect of the game/system, which must suck. And that you can't appreciate the beautiful quality of a game rendered in stereoscope.

I've warmed to the 3D on the 3DS. It's still only good in some games, still only relevant to the gameplay in a few games, and still only comfortable over short sessions for many people. I think you're assuming a lot by what he said, and the machine comes with a slider to turn it off if you can't stand it. Being able to turn it off is part of the hardware, too.

So whats the story?

I guess its... ganon is revived. I wish they made a game based on the flooding of hyrule. The flood could like one those sad but good endings. I do suppose the sequal of this game could happen in the windwaker timeline, as a parrellel event happening to Link to past 1. Except that at the end you find out your not really a true hero.

Well the haters have succeeded. Nostalgia, rehashing, zelda-was-never-any-good-anyway, blah blah blah, that's all this thread is going to be about for roughly 50 pages until the hate subsides

Did no one here play either of the DS Zelda games? I don't understand all the hate of the visuals. And criticizing the animations even? I thought they all looked really smooth.

Looking forward to this, although I will say that I enjoy 3D Zeldas, and would have likely preferred a 100% new Zelda game designed for 3DS that maybe mixes both gameplay styles in some way.

I wanted Majora 3D. I'll only buy this day 1 if I find it cheap.

It'll come. They've mentioned that they want to release an "original" 3DS Zelda before they consider Majora's Mask. You'll most likely be able to get this during a holiday deal for cheap, so we'll see.

Yeah but he said "it was really fucking annoying as expected". Why?

I don't really like 2D Zelda at all because the controls are awful (2d<DS<3d) but I'll give it a go. Everything excluding the combat in LttP and LA is great.

I hope it's an e-shop title. It'll be cheaper that way.

Yep. Nintendo doesn't want to oversaturate Zelda in 2013 when they have Link to the Past 2 coming out.

We'll see Majora's Mask 3D in 2014.

Huh, nice spotting the areas. I see the tree that's dead in the original is alive in the sequel.

Maybe this is the past? So... link to the past past?

Link to the past²

Aaaaah. :p

You know for 3DS the graphics could be better. Mario 3D Land and Kid Icarus prove this.

In what way? It's a topdown Zelda game, with smooth character models and animations. There's not much more you can with it as far as quality of "graphics" is concerned. And I wouldn't say Mario 3D Land looks any better than this from a technical standpoint. It just has more vibrant colors.

Just watched the trailer for this on my XL and it's looks really good to me. Kinda like Luigi's Mansion 2, the 2d screenshot doesn't do it justice.

Someone get that 3D logo from the DCKR 3D boxart and place it on this.

At this rate it wouldn't surprise me. I don't know who was in charge of the New Leaf and DKCR boxarts, but they need to be fired. It's like they just discovered bevel and emboss.

This does look a bit lifeless in screens compared to the original.

But try watching the trailer on your 3DS. Looks vibrant. The 3D gives the environments lots of dimension, especially when you're able to see below you.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much

I don't get your point.

I would imagine his point is:

1. Turn off 3D
2. Problem solved.

Not liking 3D is fine, just turn it off. The switch is right there. Slide it down and you never, ever have to think about 3D again.

Why would you want a remake of a game available on the N64, GC, and Wii instead of a new game in the series? You can turn on a Wii and purchase the game right now.

Remember when Miyamoto said last year that he wasn't sure whether to remake Majora's Mask or A Link to the Past?

That motherfucker.

I believe the point of a forum is express opinions. I'm sorry that some of you wanted this thread to become a "YEAAAh, "OOOHHHH" fest, and I assure you I would love to be that way, but that's how it is.

Some people, including me, think it look horrendous. That's not "hating".

I feel conflicted. I like the fact that we are getting a new 2D Zelda. But the fact that they are re-using LltP's world and the fact that it looks like soulless shit are bumming me out.

Don't take this the wrong way, but don't you think you'd be happier on a Nintendo-only forum?

I didn't want to get a 3DS just for Mario 3D Land. However, I will for that and this Zelda game. Is it silly to buy a system for only two games?

Well I know I certainly don't give a fuck given what I've seen here today.
