That guy is so easy... hes probably just a miniboss or a normal enemy. Just look at the room. It doesnt look like a boss room at all.

They're recycling a boss and a boss room. It's essentially the same boss and the same room as in LTTP.

Game just gets worse and worse.

He doesn't want just one 3DS. He wants four of them!

Whoa, just catching up on this news. My first impression on the visuals is pretty positive. And I never got through LTTP, so this'll seem fresher to me. I'm a little concerned the top-down view in 3D will give me vertigo, though :p

People are seriously saying that this game looks terrible?! What?! It looks like an extremely faithful recreation of the SNES sprites in 3D. If you think this looks lifeless, you may as well be saying that the original game looked lifeless too. =/

I think in looks fantastic, especially in 3D.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I think it looks great on the 3DS screen, much better than blown up on a monitor. I can't wait to see more.

Why are they recycling bosses?
With this and the overworld, I get the sense they were going to do a straight remake but decided not to at the last minute.

This smacks of NSMB nonsense.
Zelda ALTTP deserved better than this.

Might not be a boss this time.

I also had the thought that they were probably going to do a remake, but decided to make a sequel instead, but I don't see how that's such a bad thing. Miyamoto said a long while ago that they were making a Zelda game in ALttP's style but not a remake, and here it is. They clearly are making all new 13+ floor dungeons. I look forward to exploring a familiar world that has changed since the last time I explored it.

I'm very excited about a new top-down Zelda set in the world of my second favorite game. It's too bad Nintendo decided to ignore all the criticism of NSMB's art style and infect another series with this ugliness. These graphics look amateurish. So it goes, I guess.

It's all you can really expect in terms of online Zelda discussion everywhere.

Legend of Zelda as a franchise is almost three decades old. That's a really long time. It's also a franchise which usually has multiple upcoming titles announced at any given time, ranging from re-releases, remakes, spinoffs, sequels, console titles, portable titles, etc. As such, I think we can expect that there is a wide ranging fanbase with many different individual desires for what to see in the next title announcement. When such an announcement is made, there is no doubt that there will be different opinions and reactions. These reactions will also be based on many different reasons ranging from individual to individual.

I don't think this is surprising, and I don't think it is a bad thing. The fact that people are interested in talking about it at all shows that the franchise still generates a lot of interest, and even if it is negative, it indicates that people still care about it to even express such an opinion.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about Rayman Legends Wii U.
so many assumptions are being made from 1 minute of gameplay, it's incredibe. I like the look of the game, but truly, this will always be remebered for the experiences it offers. Hopefully the gameplay remains strong and they come up with cool ways to create a true sequel to one of the best games of all time.

I believe the point of a forum is express opinions. I'm sorry that some of you wanted this thread to become a "YEAAAh, "OOOHHHH" fest, and I assure you I would love to be that way, but that's how it is.

Some people, including me, think it look horrendous. That's not "hating".

It's just sad that that's where the discussion will be for awhile - people arguing whether or not they find a subjective art style to be objectively horrendous.

Ultimately people just want their own opinions either justified or reaffirmed, myself included. So while there's nothing wrong with you having an opinion, the thread's already tipped over into people trying to convince other people to change their mind to what seems empirically obvious to them but isn't to others.

And while you might not be "hating," there are certainly others who are.

Don't take this the wrong way, but don't you think you'd be happier on a Nintendo-only forum?

Hardly. I'm not looking for an echo chamber, just a reprieve from the endless negativity that's permeated into every aspect of gaming-gaf.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Are you saying it was hard to notice something because the graphics were crummy? I don't ever remember getting stuck anywhere in ALttP. The game trains you to look for hints or get familiar with the way things are hidden. Usually when you get stuck, you feel silly about how obvious something was later on. That's not the game's fault.

I'm saying that gating your progress by hiding things in random places halfway across the map isn't "treating the player as intelligent" or whatever was said. Yes if you come across it there's no problem, it's not much of a puzzle, but if you don't there is no hint about what to do except for in freaking nintendo power (lol). No they don't need infinity hand holding like some of their recent efforts, but getting away from some of that archaic stuff is a good thing. Like I said it's just like pixel hunting in an adventure game. People don't need to try to justify it because LttP isn't actually a perfect game.

I didn't want to get a 3DS just for Mario 3D Land. However, I will for that and this Zelda game. Is it silly to buy a system for only two games?

Well I know I certainly don't give a fuck given what I've seen here today.

Isn't that people do? If you provide a 1 minute video, fans will analyse it and try to figure out what various things in the gameplay indicates. It's all part of the experience. Nothing wrong with that.

You have proof of this? It doesn't look like a boss room to me. Too integrated into the overall dungeon, most boss rooms tend to be separate.

I'm glad they're going with a top-down view for this Zelda. After PH and ST I was afraid it was a thing of the past!

Art style took me a moment to process, but it looks fine. The outdoor environments in the 3DS video really do look very nice.

The graphics are... Eugh. I do remember enjoying ALttP most of the Zelda games though, and the drawing thing feels like a fun addition, even if a bit dumb. Will probably get when the price goes down.

Cynically one can criticize this for being a nostalgia cash in, but this era (SNES/GB) of top down Zeldas produced some of the best ones, and I'm excited that Nintendo is looking back at this period and will be drawing their gameplay ideas based on the LTTP foundation.

Maturity, bitches.
Moldorm is a staple Zelda enemy so I'm not surprised to see that one boss return. Hopefully not all bosses are recycled though.

Wow I actually think the game looks really impressive, way better looking than Wind Waker HD. Still upset though that Majora's Mask (aka the best Zelda game) got snubbed yet again for the remake treatment.

Hey, I'm stoked. LttP is one of my favorite games OF ALL TIME!

If this is even 1/4 as good, it'll be a good time for me.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Wow, this looks so great. It's basically New Zelda but they managed to give it an awesome visual style that isn't even a little bit sterile or generic looking like some parts in New Super Mario do.

I love all the little details like how the bones you block are deflected, that probably looks more awesome in 3D. I just like seeing 3D animations with character, like 2D games had.

Another reason for me to get a 3DS at some point... Man.

Edit: wait people are hating on the graphics? Wow.

I don't get the purpose of a stamina meter in Zelda. Are they planning on making stuff like arrows infinite? That would be the only purpose I see in not letting the player spam them (but it would be lame because then there won't be item management). Kinda weird. Didn't even notice this until someone pointed it out!

Hmm, the arrow counter is probably on the bottom screen :p

Mother 1 -> Mother 2
Castlevania -> Super Castlevania 4
Metroid -> Metroid Zero Mission

I dunno. Those games were pretty good despite heavily borrowing from their NES predecessors to the point of almost being reimaginings.

I think the reason these games don't get the same response from me is that they all are trying to better their predecessors by fixing problems, making things more intuitive and coming up with new art styles and mechanics on top of that.

This game is trying to be the same as LttP. It's trying to recreate it and then make it not exactly the same with new mechanics. Why limit yourself to that when you can make anything the 3DS could support?

I found it pretty hard to put this into words actually but there ya go.

EDIT: lol - the same but not the same. I mean the aim is first to be like LttP and then after that to have its own ideas. I think it should prioritise the new ideas.
