I looked through the first few pages but could not find any kind of consensus - can you guys help?

Should I buy this on PS3 or 360?

Depends on how bad you can tolerate tearing. 360 tears but has better framerate. PS3 has no tearing.

Personally, the tearing on 360 for the original DD was too annoying so I re-bought and was happy with the PS3 version

Thanks! Sounds like the PS3 version will be just fine.

So I just beat BBI for the second time. That last battle was bloody tedious, and not really fun at all. It's not even vaguely challenging as a sorc, just took forever.

edit: I remember reading earlier on in the thread that someone's already done it 18 times? Damn, I applaud your patience good sir.

Somebody named Mortalos used my pawn and sent her back with a bunch of gear. I don't see them on the google doc. Thanks to whoever it was if you're on gaf!

Keep the one at bluemoon. A BBI quest had you going back there.

Ooooh thanks for the heads up I was going to remove that one and keep it with me, the reason I had placed it there originally was because walking through that windy valley is the biggest pain in the ass ever if you wanna farm chests at smugglers or kill things at Bluemoon.

Ouch, so far my leveling has been:

1-10 Mage
10-25 Mystic Knight
25-35 Sorcerer

Just switched to Ranger to have a bit of fun with that, and I'm really feeling my lack of physical strength. Even buying all the best gear I can from Caxton and upgrading it all to level 3 my bow feels like it does fuck all damage unless enchanted.

Quick question: I'm just at the point in the main story where
I'm supposed to go meet the duke. It clearly states that all taks will be wiped out, but does this include my notice board quests as well?

If you like Ranger, try the Magick Archer. The way you leveled up, it might be more fitting to use that vocation.

The notice board quests you already have will be fine. However, some escort quests will be gone.

I'm afraid to play Magick Archer because of the supposedly awful stat growth. I'm playing as Ranger to freshen things up a bit from the past 24 hours of gameplay as a magic user, but also to increase my strength for when I switch back to Mystic Knight eventually.

If anyone is still interested, I'm finally out of the boring prologue section in my Let's Play, so now things actually have a chance of killing me and it's fun again.

Episode 5: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3UlWA6xsQA&list=PLXGvmnXr7V0_34BAP-u1MizgJ3faMtyd3&index=1

Still watching! Keep 'em coming.

can a pawns gear still be DFed? i don't think it happened to mine since the expansion. my gear gets DFed all the time.

Nope. You have to equip it yourself and DF it that way.

Stop worrying about stat growth. It means nothing.

Amen, why are people so damn OCD about this shit? Know what the difference between the worst and best stat growth is? About 2-3 attacks on a boss, so who gives a shit?

Guy #1 "Guys, I want to play a MA, but I heard they have bad stat growth?"

Guy #2 "Yeah dude, just play mage 1-10, then sorc 10-200, then switch to MA"

Me: /facepalm

This game is not that challenging that you need extra 150 stat points to be competitive. Its not a MOBA, it has no PvP, what are you doing this shit for? Just play the game with whatever class you want! What the heck is everyone so worried about? That they will hit some brick wall and have a ruined character? I guarantee that cannot happen regardless of what choices you make. This will be the biggest difference, guy's speedrun of final boss will be 47 seconds, while yours is 50 seconds. OH NO!

Why not play as assassin? You'll get 6 STR growth, the highest in the game, and you can use bows.

I got Strider to rank max for me and my pawn, I'm now rank 4 Magick Archer and my pawn Ranger rank 4. Levels are 31/32.

I have two more quests before seeing the Duke so I'm now finishing notice board quests. I'll travel a bit and use my 3 Portcrystals at different zones of the map so I can travel a little bit faster in the future. Because having to travel from one end to another each time I need a monster or something, is a bit annoying. ^^

So I was wandering around the night, near the catacombs, and this SUPER EVIL voice just starts yelling at me about how it controls the night, how I"m never going to survive.

It scared the FUCK out of me. I just stopped running and waited for something to attack me, but nothing ever came.

WHAT WAS THAT?

THIS GAME IS SO GOOD!

well i beat BBI a second time. only took 40 minutes or so for the boss. good game. he was like two fire drakes in one. i was solo at the end and gained 5 level ups. some sick helmet for my pawn, but nothing that will help me doing more damage. pawns were pretty useless in that second fight.

Yep. It's always kind of annoyed me. Forces you to fight drakes and whatnot with classes your arisen isn't trained in, unless you're the same class as your pawn.

oh damn.

Wow, really? I've been there only for about 2-3 hours
it gets harder, don't worry :). Seems like a lot of people struggled with the boss at the 2/3 mark
Doesn't feel like BBI likes melee classes at all. Warrior especially is even more useless than before.
BBI is all about damage output. When you first show up with gear from Gransys, his big slow attacks with low damage output are a bad combo.

Once you get the best weapon for him, Warrior becomes a lot of fun on BBI. I completely destroy 3 Garm with my new sword.

Yeah, I figured that may be the case. Playing on hard mode as well and die super easy as Warrior as they don't really have any defensive abilities. Looking forward to finding some decent weapons though, only found a staff so far but it's very nice for my pawn.

Loving this game, can't believe I waited until the Dark Arisen rerelease to pick it up.

Got a question: I somehow lost my void key
on BBI, was in the giant chained Cyclops room, (Midnight Helix) fought my way up past the sorcerers & the gargoyle, and got the VOID KEY off of the corpse at the top. I was killed after an unsuccessful attempt to slay the chained giant.

I DID NOT drop it or sell it, it was just gone after I died a few times after having acquired it.

now I can't find it ANYWHERE in my inventory. I thought "ok, I have to go back and get it again", but it didn't re-spawn. Any ideas or is this a glitch & I'm fucked?

...oh yeah, thanks to all the GAFers using my Mage (Testiclees/Tetsuo), and whoever helped adjust his style with the cool red leather cap!

...Meicyn, your warrior ROCKS! Running with him for so long now he's like family @ this point!

Well it does matter a little. Since when you add Clout/Vehemence, Acuity/Attunement, you are adding 32% of your stat - the higher the base, the more the end number.

It bums me out looking at other people's pawns and seeing them barely edge mine out in STR, some beating me out in HP by a fat margin, and it's something I can never change/correct.

Nah it means nothing. Those augments will raise your weapon's stats too, so when you're wielding a weapon with 800-1800 Strength/Magick then it really doesn't matter.

Min/maxing in this game is so pointless.

Just bought this today for 360. Never played the original.

Is the screen tearing really bad or is it just in areas with lots of enemies?

everywhere when I played 360 version of the original DD, eg just looking around the starting village with no enemies

thats why I had to buy a PS3 copy and was happy to see no tearing at all

someone mentioned 720p mode helps so you can try that

I decided on the 360 version as i'll take tearing over a lower framerate any day of the week, but it's disappointing to hear it's pretty much everywhere.

I didn't get any items from you, Burgerdog. I did get some RC from you though. I wonder if there is a cap to how many RCs you can receive from another player in one shot? I never receive over 250k from one person.

When I get home later, I'm going to knock out all the quests to see if anything changes with my drops.

That's weird. If you died, everything should have reverted. Did you check your storage? If one of your pawns had the key and you released them, it will have gone back into storage. In the off chance you did discard the key, the black cat in gran soren should have it.

1 million is the limit, I think. I've gotten exactly 1,000,000 from two different people - completely even number received twice leads me to believe that's the limit.

I've found relatively small differences in Atk/Magic Atk to make a significant difference in BBI. Mileage may very. I don't think min-maxing is the way to go but I do notice a difference.

I wonder if the server is behind? You should have gotten the RC a few days ago and it looks like you just got it now. Weird. Also, here are my drops from the last couple of Daimon kills:

Lv3 = Shadow, Traitor, Grave
Lv4 = Oblivion, Hellfire, Carrion

Lv3 gloves
Lv3 chest
Lv4 headpiece
Lv3 chest
Lv3 headpiece
Lv3 chest
Lv4 headpiece
Lv4 chest

I'm going to stop farming Daimon once I get Traitor/Hellfire legs.

Yeah, its possible its just behind.

I have a very similar trend, but replace chest with leg armor. I have doubles of hellfire, carrion and oblivion leg. I used to have triples but started selling them for gold

When you give items to another person's pawn, you need to sleep in the inn after you release them for the trade to go through, sometimes. Not always, but they can be delayed if you don't.

It seems to me like Death and Daimon2 have certain dmg thresholds you need to break to actually hurt them. Anyone with a forged lvl 2 weapon will break it though. I see so many compulsively OCD people creating this shared mania about stuff that's so damn irrelevant it baffles me. Seen people restart cause they gained a couple level in the "wrong" class, or won't switch to level 200 so they dont gain levels in the other classes because of stat growth. That's just unbelievably insane. This game DOESNT have PVP, why are people obsessed about 5% more damage output at the cost of making the game significantly less fun?! You can beat anything at level 200, you'll gain more power faster by getting good augs when you want them, than waiting to 200. If you want to play speed run mode competitively, by all means then min/max. Just completely dumb being obsessed that you hit a boss for 3720 instead of 3515.

I think the min/max is really a habit carried over from Dark Souls.
But yeah there's really no point, considering how much Ur-dragon farming that's required to get to 200 and the fact that equipment makes all the difference, might as well just enjoy the game.

What's a good magick archer skill setup for BBI? I played most of vanilla as one before I settled on sorc, but I can't remember much about them. I just want to switch things up for a little bit.

Also, are there more than six Moonbeam Gems lying around in BBI? I think that's all I could find. I've found like 14-15 of those stupid Macabre Statues (several in some hilariously devious places) and finally got that tablet I missed (up in the sorc/cursed dragon room), so I feel like there aren't many hiding spots left. Someone posted a diagram that said you can also get Moonbeams from one of the daimon's chests...?

You always get one from Daimon's chests and it sucks. There's only eight doors and the chest containing the gem is wasted completely after that.

I use sixfold shot(ice), explosive arrow(fire), and hunter shot(lightning.)
