I have no idea what you mean by big time sales numbers. According to gameinformer they sold 200,000 on the 360, which is about 45% of what Braid did according to venturebeat.

I think that's pretty darn good. Best selling game ever? Nope. But polytron still made probably $1.5 mil from it (ballpark figure. If they sold every copy at full price of 1200 mspoints or $15, the money made would have been $3,000,000, and assuming a 70/30 cut with msft they would have taken home $2.1 mil. The game's gone on sale several times though, for 800 ms points, or $10, and I have no idea how many they sold during those sales. I think ballpark figure of taking home $1.5 million is pretty reasonable though), which is exceptionally good (though definitely not record breaking) for an indie.

It's #15 on steam, with most of the top 10 being there because of the huge number of games on sale right now. It's also selling better than Monaco, despite Monaco being released for the first time ever and drama-free, while Fez has been out for a year. Monaco's also been out a week longer than fez, so that's not a 1-to-1 comparison, but it's still worth noting.

Super Meat Boy sold over a million copies. Minecraft has sold over 15 million copies.

There is a huge market for smaller games. A game as good as Fez should be a guaranteed minimum seller. The designer is the one pushing people away.

I am not sure, but from reading the OP it sounds like he is labeling the unnamed Japanese developer with contempt and labeling him in the same boat with all the other 100 million peoples whose game just sucks.


Guy is allowed to dislike anything Japanese, but I gotta admit, there seems to be genuine hostility in the voice judging someone like this. We all judge, makes presumptions and shit.


And seriously, I am not for censorship. I think it's completely fair and highly plausible to speak against the quality of Japanese game development, I just don't think that you can accuse other peoples of being something based on their geographical position.

Hideki Kamiya has said some pretty disgusting things about non-Japanese people but I still love the dude's games. This image often gets posted and I feel it's always misapplied. Just because someone has said "i'm offended" does not mean that it's totally devoid of reasons behind it. It mainly applies to people who say it in conversation and leave it at that, the kind of person who can't elaborate on [I]why [/I]they feel that why. But this isn't a candid real life conversation, we're on an internet forum where we can afford to take the time to formulate our opinions and explain fully why exactly we're offended. The people who criticize Fish and actually back up why they feel that way are worthy of respect, instead of simply discarding their opinion because feelings have been hurt and they are obviously just big babies...
