Game Informer: Sony is developing a new free 2 play game (presumably for PS4)

Would love to see them approach people like Wargaming (World of Tanks), Valve (for a proper console version of TF2) and the War Thunder guys and get their games on the PS4.

So planetside 2, and Everquest next, or is this Sony proper? Im still expecting both to show on PS4 considering the success of DCUO for SOE after it went free to play.

I don't really enjoy F2P titles like I used to, but the PC mmorpgs were the best.

Things I see on consoles are arguable, but they have been pretty much mehs. I did not really enjoy Dust 514, and have no interest in DC Universe Online.

However I could openly accept LBP as a F2P game since I buy costumes for that game like crazy and it feels like it could work as a good F2P game seeing as how alot of things are established by the community.

And keeping the cosmetics as the cash shop items is a good way to work the system.

How can this not be Everquest Next? They'll probably reveal it at E3 or sooner and I can't wait! Biggest sandbox being made, curious what they'll do.

Wouldn't Yoshida preface it as a new-IP if that were the case?

I wouldn't be surprised by the development of a Planetside PS4, rather than a direct port of Planetside 2. Even if it was the same experience, I'd imagine that a slight rebrand would be in order.

I'm imagining that if this FTP game is worth talking about, it's an MMO. I don't see Sony investing the money in a fantasy setting like Everquest, not for the PS3 at least.

i don't want my EverQuest Next being F2P but i guess i wouldn't be surprised. everything was sounding too positive around that game for the longest time.

Pretty sure SOE said all it's major games are going to be F2P from here on out.

To add to the OP...

“We are developing a free-to-play type of game, but we haven’t announced it yet. We don’t have any subscription-based games in development, but we are not crossing out any type of game; if it makes sense for a particular project, we’ll look at adopting different models. We are open for any types of models. Overall, we are increasing investment in the digital side of development, either through digital titles like Journey that we’ve been doing, but also trying to add more service-based models to our games going forward, like DLCs or additional features post launch.”

its all macrotransactions now. Pay 20 bucks for a non interactive pet that took some intern 20 minutes to design! Pay 25 bucks for some interesting looking armor to replace that rusty armor you got from your 20 hour epic quest!

Thinks mods influence posters politics. Promoted to QAnon Editor.
I'd love to have a PS4 port of DCUO, use PS3 servers and accounts.

I don't know why but I have this incredible prejudice against F2P console games even tho PC has some REALLY great ones like MOBAS. Would be cool to see a F2P killer app for consoles someday.

Also might be a new Singstar?

Nice.

F2P on consoles should be very interesting.

Wonder if one of them is Planetside 2. (it would be a very loose definition of "developing" though).

Guarantee I'm going to screw up this post? Yeah.

There will be zero new info about EQ Next until August 1 (SoE Live event).

Sorry, but it's well known that it will be F2P. All of SoE games are F2P now.

If you're at all interested in the next Everquest, I recommend watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=wVIIIZ6ETtY#t=23s
