Digital only?

Sweet, too many 3DS games to buy already, I could use one less ok my list. Fuck outta here with that bullshit. No person in their right mind should be buying full price retail games from Nintendo anyways because of their shitty account system. Throwaway purchases like small eShop indie titles, sure, but full games? Nope.

can you explain better?

Nintendo's DD services lacks an account system, instead opting to tie purchases to the hardware unit it was purchased on. If you lose your hardware or it stops working for any reason, there's no way to download your purchase on another piece of hardware.

Digital only doesn't bother me in the least.

Edit: I wonder how much of this is because MH3U digital sales outdid retail
... Aw fuck. I'd hate it if that were the reason, because MH3U's the kind of game you may want to go back to every so often, whereas when you're done with an Ace Attorney you're probably DONE. On the plus side I guess it wouldn't be a huge deal deleting my save, given you'd want to do that from the beginning anyway.

EDIT: And yeah, Nintendo's setup makes me much more weary than Microsoft or Sony's. I'll still get games that way if they're games that I feel make sense that way, but I'd really hate to be forced more and more into it for niche games. If they can at least jury rig an account system that allows transfer of purchases that'd be a huge boon.

Digital only? What the fucking fuck, Capcom? Who wants to willingly use Nintendo's dogshit DD service?

I actually already own several digital titles between my Wii U and 3DS. I fail to see the issue. Seriously people, first world problems.

Capcom probably doesn't want to spend the money to print physical copies of a game that's not destined to sell in the millions.

Just be happy we are getting it at all. I'm looking at you AAI2.

Can someone explain why the economics don't justify a retail release, when a fair number of Japanese niche titles for 3DS/Vita that will sell even less are still getting retail releases?

On the plus side, it's coming this year which was beyond my expectations. I have a horrible feeling that Capcom are going to charge £39.99 for this on the UK eShop though.

So I won't buy it. Simple as that.
And that is certainly your prerogative. I'm sure it'll be on iOS for $5 6 months after the 3DS release anyway, which has a lovely account system. For the record I prefer physical media as well, but I'm also a realist who really wants to play AA5!

"no way" assuming that you have an avid phobia of all personal contact including customer support, naturally

Apparently most people here don't trust themselves to keep their electronics safe

It's not just a matter of keeping it safe. Lots of people live in households with multiple 3DS systems. And whether you want to believe it or not, there are people that depend on resale/trade value to keep consuming all the games they want.

And before 'Steam', let's be honest and admit that most games on the eShop don't typically get the kinds of deep discounts that they do on Steam.

That's such a bullshit argument. The supposed benefits of going digital-only is that you couldn't lose your games. But lo and behold, Nintendo found a way to make your games inexplicably tied to the hardware, making them more likely to get lost than physical editions, since they will all be in one place.

It's not that we don't trust ourselves, it's that Nintendo's online solution is completely asinine. You cannot defend this shit, and Capcom should know better.

With the way Nintendo handles these things, AA fans will be rebuying Ace Attorney 5 every time a new Nintendo console comes out.

I'll pay $20 for a digital only copy.

Digital downloads are a lot like DLC. Opens the gates for good stuff you wouldn't get otherwise, and the bad stuff like digital-only localizations when you'd have a physical copy otherwise. Woe.

I'm glad Capcom is bringing the game to the west but digital only? I would understand if AA5 was released last year but the 3DS is having a banner year right now with a bunch of highly anticipated games already released and soon to see a release. So it's baffling that Capcom decided to go this route. I don't even understand why Capcom wouldn't put together some preorder bonuses or a limited edition first print run if it wanted to capture the diehard AA fans. I'm pretty sure this game would've been one of the more successful preorders of the series to date.

And now I have to choose whether or not to buy a game using Nintendo's crappy digital services. Gee, thanks a lot CAPCPOM.

Welp, looks like I won't be playing this until I can get a 3DS for like 50 bucks or osmething.

I can't even import the Japanese version because of region-lock. Thanks Nintendo, you're really a helpful company.

That's why I said it's not perfect. Downloading from the eShop is buyer beware territory. Since my 3DS rarely goes far, I can't say it bothers me. The angry anti-digital luddites in here are laughable, though.

Its in between laughable and down right annoying, lol.

I dont understand how you know this would get a physical release otherwise.

DD makes it possible for localizations to happen that would have otherwise not been a profit if it was physical.

My digital is already stacked with all the Game Boy, NES, GBA Embassadors, and Fire Emblem. There's just no room in this world for such a game anymore.

Physical would be much appreciated, and compensated with currency, Capcom. Don't fuck this up.

What the fuck else does Capcom even have to release at retail later this year? Lost Planet 3, Monster Hunter 4 and... ?

Well, there's that Viewtiful Joe 3 release that's been in the works for years, but they might be delaying that for a next-gen port, IDK. I'll have to check my sources.

I strongly considered picking up a 3DS for just this game (massive fan of the series), but no way in hell will I buy AA5 digitally on such a broken distribution platform.

You know, I wonder if THAT'S the reason it's getting digital only. It's the kind of game you'd play, beat, and trade in. This might be to beat the used game market, not because of any kind of worry about its sales at retail.

Is that so? I've never heard of someone getting his games back after losing his hardware.

If you're willing to jump through the hoops that Nintendo's set in place for you to recover things (like getting a police report for something you lost, not got stolen) or are willing to shell out the money to fix that same piece of hardware rather than just getting a new one, then sure, you can get your games back.

It still should not be an acceptable practice in 2013, where damn near every competitor has a superior system in place.

I know that. I didn't understand his post, simply.
Btw, I know that an account would be simply the right way. I also know that if you lose or got your console stolen, you lose your games.
I also know that if your console stop to work, you can ask the Nintendo Costumer service to help you out not only with your HW but also with your sw. It happened with the Wii of some friends of mine (don't know if it's so because he was registered into Club Nintendo so they tracked his digital purchases or what...)

Why digital only?! So lame...

I'll still get it because it'll be a fun game and I'm just glad it's getting localized.
